Iran Barkley during an interview after beating James Kinchen.
"My name's Iran and I never ran from no one"
In response to Scott Ladoex talking about how they should not have stopped the fight during his brutal beating at the hands of Larry Holmes, Ladoex even went as far to say that he was very much in the fight and was ready to make his move.
Howard Cosell "you see what such punishment will do to a man"
In response to Eddie Mustapha Muhamed. Eddie said the reason he lost to Renaldo Snipes in which many would consider the most boreing fight ever fought was that he was injured. He went on to say that he went ahead with the fight because he wanted to show everyone how much heart he had.
Sports writer's quote "you showed em Eddie"
After beating Liston in their first fight the commentator interviewing Ali told Ali that Liston quit because of an injured shoulder, Ali,s response was [can't remeber direct quote] anyone would have injured their shoulder who swung and missed that many times.
Blly Conn was explaining to Joe Louis what he would do if he held the title.
Joe's response "Billy, you held it for twelve rounds"

Well Sonny it is then, thanks JaclemJaclem wrote:..shoeshine..before i finished reading your post i already thought...sonny liston.....though i don't know if that's the right answer, my gut reaction was the same as yours, so unless you get a definitive different answer from someone here i'd say it's the safest bet.

..shoeshine....kickasner's suggestion makes a lot of sense..enough to give me doubts about our liston guess. it's just that i have a vague..very vague..memory of liston having said the statement in question. fooey.
actually, my reply to your post is an example of someone who has better things to do, but instead fiddles around at his computer and writes verbiage for the the sake of verbiage alone.....my point being that i really didn't add anything to your own guess at an answer. now if i've led you astray and caused you to lose the contest i am going to feel guilty.
well, if i've done that, i certainly hope it teaches me a lesson.

Jaclem, thanks for the vote of confidence but my thought is pure conjecture, and I as well as you would not want to lead anyone astray by swaying someone to give an answer that I don't know for a fact. Hopefully Shoeshine has more time to find out a little more.
Good luck Shoeshine, get back and let us know how it works out.

All of these are genuine Ali.....
Frazier is so ugly that he should donate his face to the US Bureau of Wild Life.
I am the astronaut of boxing. Joe Louis and Dempsey were just jet pilots. I'm in a world of my own.
I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.
I hated every minute of training, but I said, ''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'
I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark.
If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize
Life is a gamble. You can get hurt, but people die in plane crashes, lose their arms and legs in car accidents; people die every day. Same with fighters: some die, some get hurt, some go on. You just don't let yourself believe it will happen to you
The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.
My toughest fight was with my first wife.

Mike Tyson- "Lennox Lewis, I'm coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!"
Ali- If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize."
Jack Handy- I hope some animal never bores a hole in my head and lays its eggs in my brain, because later you might think you're having a good idea but it's just eggs hatching."

A particular favorite
I was watching an NFL game many years ago. I'm not sure but it might have been the Raiders-Vikings in the Super Bowl, anyhow but one team was beating the other so bad the announcer said "If this was a boxing match the referee would stop it."
"he said that? he really said that? right :x nobody puts me down and gets away with it :x . except my mother

"I'd be more than happy to take him out the back and knock his head off all over again" - Fenech again, after the Callejas fight![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

One after fight quote that I recall from Iran Barkley was pretty comical. It was right before his bout with James Toney, I forget the opponent, but following the win in his interview Barkley said that everything was accomplished because of God and all thanks go to God, his very next words, which he stated, in a very matter-of-fact type of way, were, "James Toney...I'm going to kill you."

..billy conn said he and joe louis were sitting at a table in vegas and ali came over and started to heckle joe ...and joe said the "dream about beating me you'd better apologize" to ali. ..which is where ali must have picked it up. many quotes attributed to ali were actually ...ah..."borrowed " from other sources.

the night of the "Rumble in the Jungle"; Jack Dempsey. Gene Tunney. and James J Braddock, dined at madison square garden and watched the fight over a closed circuit broadcast. Columnist Red Smith said that he overheard someone say..
"there are three guys at that table who could whip Ali on the best night he ever had"
thats being generous but i have no complaints.. love those 3 fighters.
thank you "delisa" if you read this, i got this information from his GREAT book.
