ok listen man, sugar ray robinson lost when he was was out of his prime, he lost only twice in his prime.
robinson in his prime went something close to 150-2!!!!!!!!
he was unstoppable. he beat many Hall of famers
and avendged both losses.
and holyfield lost to guys like bowe and moorer and struggled with many people. holyfield was not the greatest hevayweight of all time. not even close. i can think of MANY HEAVYWEIGHTS that would beat him.
mike tyson was unstoppable in his prime and he cleaned out the heavyweight division. and i wouldnt call them a list of bums. tyson beat about 6 heavyweight champions in his title defenses. and if were the 87 peak tyson vs prime holyfield , holyfield wouldnt last 3 rounds.
look at me and sharkeyboys list, very accurate. urs needs a lot of work man. take my advice.
hey sharleys boy i agree with practially all of ur picks, except why do u rate dempsey 15th??? i have dempsey close to the top 5 ever. why the low rating??

I rate Dempsey 15th because I think the 14 guys above him on the list beat him. The boxers outpoint him. And the big sluggers knock him out. He was knocked down by Tunney, knocked out of the ring by Firpo, KO'd by Fireman Flynn. Liston, Foreman, Marciano, Jeffries etc. knock him down repeatedly. That's just my opionion.

Rory? JJB does not make your top 15? I think I'm surprised. You rate Baer Higher than JJB? Your starting to worry me I need to see some better consisitency from you. Or you will be assigned additional homework.
Nah ive never argued that jjb was top 15, its part of the whole greatness about him.. i would rank him somewhere in the 20's, but he doesnt have to be the greatest ever for me to like him. yes i know jjb beat baer, but baer was a better fighter, and a more accomplished one, he just couldnt overcome the heart of the cinderella man... JJB is a GREAT champion, but not top 15, which is okay by me.

ok gustom i wanna be respectful and respect your opinion and all but BB is right you obviously have no idea what the hell your talking about... just please stop with the lists, and calling great hall of fame boxers, bums with padded records.
and sharkeys boy im detecting that since your such a big sharkey fan, that you still hold a grudge against dempsey for beating sharkey... but 15? cmon hes probly top 5 certainly top 7

gustom if ur gonna call me an idiot, im not gonna educate u man.
cause i hate to break it to u, but judging by ur list, i think u showed everyone whos the real idiot.
im not the one who rates evander holyfield as the greatest heayweight of all time and george chuvalo as the 2nd greatest. u even rate willie de witt as the 6th greatest hevayweight

If you think I'm a Jack Sharkey fan because of my user name, it's Tom Sharkey I'm honoring, not Jack Sharkey. Jack Sharkey took this "stage" name because he idolized Tom, who was a sailor like Jack. I'm actually not much of a Jack Sharkey fan.
I rate Dempsey low because his reputation is largely based on KOs of Willard and Firpo and the spectacular (for the time) fight footage that resulted from those fights. Willard and Firpo were bums. It's just a fact. I do respect Dempsey's power and he'd have a slugger's chance against some of the people above him on my list.

Just a few points.
- I think gustom is just trying to jerk people around with his picks. His picks are too silly to be taken seriously.
-I don't think Sharkey boy's picks are that bad. I don't think Schmeling deserves to be in there, but the others picks are reasonable. I wouldn't have the exact same order, but I doubt you can find two people that would.
As for Holyfield and Tyson, that still amazes me that people still rate Tyson higher. Tyson beat beltholders, not champions, there is a difference. Guys like Thomas, Berbik,Tubbs, Tucker, Bruno etc were not real champions. They had some ability, but were very limited. When Tyson fought Holyfield, who won? Holyfield was also older than Tyson.
Yes Holyfield has fought way past his prime, but he still has lost much less that charles and Walcott who are considered top 15-25 by many people.
The loss to Moorer is really the only "inexusable loss" for Holyfield. But I would argue that it wasn't as bad as losing to Marty Marshall, Rex Layne, Willie Meehan etc like Liston,Charles, and Dempey did, to name just a few. And Holyfield did destroy Moorer in the rematch. Losing to Bowe is no embarrassment at all. Those were great fights.
As for struggling against some other guys, well who hasn't? Marciano for example, struggled against a lots of guys who he shouldn't have.

I was wondering when someone was going to point this out. Obviously, he's having some fun with the way pretty much everyone on the board can justify their own rankings with "facts". When you look at any fighters record, or even their performances, you can always find things to justify your own opinion. After all, Chuvalo was a champion for 20 years!!

Well, guston is either just kidding around or he is a little bit simple or retarded.
But judging from all his other posts, I suspect he is serious and is not kidding.

14.Frazier
15.Walcott
PS I am ranking on ability at prime. Trying not to judge p4p, but can't help it where smaller guys would be bigger if they were here today. ie Demps and Rock.

Ali, Johnson and Louis stand out for me and sit above the rest.
The second tier would be Holmes, Foreman and Liston.
The third tier Dempsey, Tunney, Charles, Walcott, Marciano, Frazier, Holyfield, Lewis.
The 4th tier Jeffries, Corbett, Schmeling, Tyson, Bowe
I have to say that rating Tyson above Holyfield seems to be either completely biased or plainly non-sensical.

I think Johnson should be given serious consideration. However this fella Joe Jeanette who seemed to have his number is a very interesting enigma. I would love to be pointed in any direction that would lead me to more info on him.

Not bais Brockton, just realistic. Joe Louis as great as he was did not have the chin or foot speed to beat a prime Ali. It wouldnt even be close. Everyone who i ranked over him were too strong, hit too hard and had great chins. Well except for Lewis but he would have made up for his china chin with his jab, mobility and crushing right hand.
Honestly, joe was rocked way too many times by smallish heavyweights for me too think he would have taken the bombs of the fighters i listed above him. This isnt Abe Simons or Buddy Baez we are talking about. These are big tough heavyweights who hit harder than anyone Louis ever fought.
Ali, Holmes and lewis would have outboxed and the others would have knocked him out.
