Naz to return?/Dibb on Hatton undercard

Prince Naseem Hamed has hinted that he may make a comeback in early 2006. The 31 year-old, who was recently pictured in a national newspaper looking more like a heavyweight than the trim, fit and former WBO featherweight king, told the Sheffield Today: "I've been boxing since I was seven years of age. I simply needed a break. "I've got two beautiful sons and a wife, and wanted to spend some time with them. Now, though, I've had my break. I miss boxing and I believe boxing misses me, too. "In the New Year you could witness something special."

Naz also revealed that the heir to his throne Bilal Dibb will appear on the undercard of the Ricky Hatton vs Carlos Maussa world title card at the Hallam FM Arena in Sheffield on November 26.

Naz, who has a personal interest in the Australian super-featherweight talent, believes the 20 year-old will prove to be something very special. "This kid is the second coming of Naseem Hamed," said an excited Naz.

"He's an awesome fighter. He's been watching lots of my videos, and has a tremendous amount of style, charisma and flair. I urge everyone to watch this kid because I have no doubts he can go all the way."

Tickets for 'The Unification' are available in person at the Hallam FM Arena or by calling the Hallam FM Arena box office on 0114 256 5656. Tickets are available at £50, £75, £100, £175 and £250.

As Kevin says, it looks like there won't be Gomez. I'm not sure about the other two.

Krence v Baker is definitely off as most suspected after Krences' loss to Chagaev, but this article mentions a couple of kids that may be on the card:

MARK KRENCE'S trainer has pulled him out of a clash on Sheffield Arena's Ricky Hatton undercard after a torrid match in Germany.

Sheffield-based Richard Poxon claims the Chesterfield heavweight was hit a dozen times in the groin in a gruelling encounter with Ruslan Chagaev from Uzbekistan in Germany on October 22.

"It was a disgraceful performance by his opponent," said Poxon "and one that makes it necessary that Mark has a good rest.

"Mark hadn't let his opponent touch him for three straight rounds, and that was when his trainer obviously told him to go out and do whatever was necessary to win.

"He volleyed Mark hard in the lower abdomen at least 10 to 12 times. That just took his legs away from him. Almost cut him in half.

"He chopped the back of Mark's head and it was then I was going to throw in the towel as a protest, but the referee stopped it.

"I made it clear to them that I never wanted to attend a boxing match in Germany ever again after witnessing scenes like that," said Poxon.

Krence, 29, was being lined up to fight 23-year-old Ingle boxer Carl Baker, for the British Masters title, on the undercard of the Hatton v Carlos Maussa bill.

"He needs a rest after the experience in Germany. We'll do the Baker fight later on."

Other local fighters pencilled in for the bill on November 26 are city lightweight Nicky Smedley and Mexborough middleweight Stuart Brookes.

It seems they are making it up as they go along.

What a shit undercard. But as the saying goes "You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear"

PPV will be a joke if Hatton goes quickly. Nothing else on show other than novices and Warren rejects.

Why no Clinton Woods? Rumour is The Greedy Family from Manchester are refusing to cut their cake too many times.

Why pay others when you can keep it all for yourselves?

Waterman and Hobson (Steptoe and Son) are getting a small fee to stage the show for 'Carpetbagger and Son' and they have no say. Watch them get royaly fucked off after this one when another cheap mug is sourced for less money.


My tip: It won't sell out, the show will be crap. Both the Hatton's will get beat too. Any takers?

Boxingchat dont think you are really in position to criticise undercards after the Zoo Hatton fight.

That undercard was truly awful and makes this look fantastic.

Tell you one thing if hatton had lost the whole fornicating place would have gone off, you couldnt get a beer for love nor money, the public knew the undercard was crap and spent the whole time in the outer part of the MEN getting pissed. My mate got asked if he was was Manc in a rather aggressive manner and half the lads didnt even try to get to the bar as it was futile and intimidating for some.

didnt bother me I hasten to add, but these things dont but still queing for 45 mins nearly sparring 3 people out for being chavs and trying it on and then getting 4 pints of piss warm cider instead of lager was not ideal.

there were 22 thousand folk going through the same thing and the frustration factor was high, if hatton had lost I truly belive a riot would have ensued.

a lot of people were not happy at the heat, lack of facilities to even get water and the dire undercard being passed off as enterainment add to this 2 am start and yes you can be very thankful indeed hatton won.


feel free to answer any of the above allegations and if you can to a decent level then of course feel free to criticise others promotions, however if you cant then I suggest you shut the fornicate up and get your own house in order.

The one thing Hatton v Tszyu had though was a competitive headliner with the champ (a legend) going against the young pretender and big home favourite. It also had names like Danny Williams and Enzo Mac albeit against very limited opposition and good fights for David Barnes and Wayne Alexander.

This fight has Hatton in a joke fight against a fighter who doesn't even rank in Hatton's top 5 opponents. And given the stick he received pre Tszyu this says a lot. Dress it up as a unification all you like but it's still a mismatch against a very limited fighter who was picked to make Harris look good to an American audience. Add to that seemingly nothing at all of note on the undercard and try and pass it off as ppv? I don't remember anyone saying they weren't going to buy the Tszyu show. I won't buy this.

i do agree with that Lenny good post, my rant was more to do with the fact people in glass houses .....ill still buy this tho. Fact is Ive got more money than sense (thats not a boast i dont have alot of sense at times) and apart from Mike Tyson fights I buy most ppv's even the sentana ones. Its only 15 quid, that dont even cover a couple of hours down the pub does it.

Since the card is PPV here in the US, it would be nice to see some of the British fighters that I've never actually seen fight.

Apparently Hare turned it down because he was injured.

It was gonna be a British Title eliminator.

carl thompson always puts on a good fight.

surely it isn't asking much to bring in a halfway decent opponent for him. i'd still pay for it though cos hatton always delivers the goods.

Looks like an abysmal undercard for a PPV "event" - as bad as the last Hatton one. What makes it even worse is the main event features a fight where Hatton is a 10-1 favorite.

I don't know why anyone would buy this fight card. Maussa is such a poor example of a world champion. I don't give a flying f*ck whether he beat Harris - ALL the emphasis was on how badly prepared the defending champion was not how good Maussa looked. So what if it's a "unification" fight, what significance does that really have when the opponent has virtually no technique be it offensively or defensively?

I personally think it's going to be an embarrassing spectacle for true boxing fans.
