During which period Utd did The Treble - a feet only matched in European football by Porto, Bayern Munich and Celtic.

If any person or team is given hype or recognition, then surely such a record would justify such adulation!

the treble is a great feat, we were robbed by united in 77 by the biggest deflected goal of all time in the F.A cup final so we know how hard it is to do it, by the way though you had your fair share of luck on the way too - bergkamps pen in the F.A cup semi and bayern hitting the post twice but its surprising how lucky good teams are.

even in the mid 70`s when they were rubbish (and even went down) they were never out the papers, liverpool and leeds were the top sides but the back pages were united this and united that. they developed a big following in the home counties around london traditionally the heartlands of the british establishment.
its funny how ferguson and busby were both knighted but bob paisley wasnt or even bill shankly for that matter. not that anyone around liverpool is bothered about tin pot honours its just a indication of how much sway united hold in the corridors of power.

I don't think I would have Keane in my all time Man Utd side also.

I'd probably go for Robson and Edwards in the Middle and Best on the left with possibly Charlton on the right (started his career as a right winger) and probably would have continued there, but for Edwards' death.

Back four would be. Neville on the right, Irwin on the left with Pallister and Styles in the centre.

Up front - Law and Hughes (for the moment).

What a load of bollocks. Anybody can receive such "tin pot honours" if the Government is petitioned by lots of people. As I recall a lot of Utd fans were "bothered" about such honours and hence they put Fergie forward.

Martin O'Neill recieved an OBE in 2003 having won the domestic treble and taken Celtic to the Uefa Cup final... does this indicate that Celtic too hold "much sway..in the corridors of power"????
