I used to think he was just lazy, but I'm not sure how much that argument holds up any more. Maybe he just has crap stamina. What is truly frustrating is the fact that he seemed proud of the fact that he hadn't broken sweat against Hopkins. Yes, Howard, very good. But you didn't win, either.

I don't care how good Eastman's opponent is, the more pressure he tries to put on Eastman the more open to Howard's shots he will be himself. Eastman is exceptionally strong and stout in the chin area so this will play into Howard's hands.
It's the guys who use a cagey strategy that cause Howard genuine problems....Hopkins, Soliman, Joppy, Abraham,Sergey Tatevosyan.
Howard, to my mind, is still undoubtedly world class and I can't see any middleweights trouncing him (Winky Wright a probable exception). He'll give them all a tough workout even if he comes up short on the scorecards.

Trouble is, Howard throws less and less shots these days. He prefers to glide around the ring sticking out a pawing jab and only occassionally the right hand.

Yes, Eastman clearly has limitations on workrate in world class company but have you noticed that even Abraham who is VERY strong didn't get involved in a tear up with Howard. That was a good game plan, because Howard struggles with tactical affairs and if your skilled enough (as Abraham proved) it makes the fight much easier. Getting stuck in to Eastman is a bad move for ANY middleweight. They may be able to outwork him for so long, but Eastman's own power shots take a big toll.
My feeling is from what I've read on this post that if this fellow wants to steam into Howard it's a mistake and Eastman will profit.

Agree with that. The right tactics and Eastman can easily be made to look pedestrian. But wading in and trying to blow him away can cause sudden sleep followed by a trip to the dentist.

Its interesting you know. Howard has never actually knocked anyone out cold. It's always been TKO's, generally he busts people up so that the ref thinks they've had enough, their corner pull them out or the fighter thinks 'fornicate this, this bearded fornicator is smashing me to pieces.'
Gerry Elliot tried to wade in there, and howard picked him off at range for most of the fight, though to be fair Elliot weighed over 175 on fight night.

I've seen Miranda take a few to the chin that didn't hurt him at all.
This is one tough dude with incredible power.

I'm starting to doubt this fight will ever happen. This kid, Miranda, is just a kid. He's fought nothing but garbage. I just saw Miranda do 12 rounds with a really poor opponent called Varela, and this fight was in June 2005. Miranda has talent, but he is very raw, and he is so untested it's unbelievable. Fighting Eastman is a huge step up. In this fight Miranda has everything to loose, Eastman has nothing to loose. Is this fight really on?

But Miranda has everything to prove. And a win will put him on top of the IBF and maybe the WBO!

80% of boxing is in the mind. We saw this two weeks ago with Zab losing and Oneil Bell winning - both major upsets. Miranda does have raw talent, and I believe he steps it up big time as his opponents get better. There is no doubt the kid has a huge heart. Remember, he's lived on the streets of Colombia all by himself since the age of 9! If his new coach tweaks him a little bit, he will prevail.

WELL LOOK AT THE FIRST FIVE ROUNDS OF THE LAST FIGHT V ABRAHAM.
he needs to do that for 8 round sor more.
unfortunately I dont think he has the work ethic to do it.
PLus by all accounts abrahma is on the up and is a better fighter now than he was vs howard last time.
I gave him 4 rounds last time and they were all close. IMO Abraham was the clear winner and I regarding his style and his workrate it was comparable to his performance vs Hopkins. I just think he is not btter than that what he showed, a good european level. but he is no top world clas middleweight plus he is past his prime.

we mroe or less agree ther abraham was the clear winner I agree.
I think I gave him five but he lost ever round past the 5th.
completely agree. Howard had a good start then just couldnt finish the job or maybe abrhama started doing something that negated Howard.

Why keep mentioning Miranda's time on the streets? Eastman has also been homeless, why does this make you a better fighter?

Are you Miranda's manager/boyfriend or something?
Ok, maybe this kid is dynamite, but he's faced nothing but stiffs so far.

Yes, BUT FROM WHO! What murderous punchers has he faced to date, it does make a difference.

2 of his last 4 bouts were at super middleweight and light heavyweight. These guys could pack much more of a punch than Eastman has.

Looks like this is going to happen March 24 on ESPN at the Hard Rock in Ft Laud, FL. At least Eastman will be close to Boca Raton when he is sent into retirement!

Dude, the light heavyweight he fought had 1 knockout in 27 fights. lol
Sam Reese has 8 knockouts in 39 fights.
All the "bigger" guys he fought where total bums except for Reese who is a decent journeyman.
Like it or not his chin is untested.
PS: I heard Eastman will have Jean Pascal (10-0-0 9ko) has a sparring partner for this fight. This should be good preparation for him.

You have a point. I guess it will offically be put to the test on March 24. I've seen Miranda get rocked, and he shook it off very well. But maybe Eastman will be the true test. I think he passes, and if he does Eastman has no chance.

Not sure if Eastman has much left, his workrate is getting less and less by the fight and he is no spring chicken. And he's inactive!

It would be good to see Pascal over here. He was the best fighter by a mile at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. I suppose that isn't saying much though because Haider Ali was the second best boxer at the tournament.[/b]

Is Eastman staying over there for training camp or is he coming to America?
