I've known about it since Harry Carpenter's boxing series in the early 80's. If 'arry said it was 65 seconds then 65 seconds it was. But why people still choose to believe the myth has me stumped. Hang on, though, aren't there 100's of people turned away from David Icke's lectures on how the world is secretly run by a race of alien blood-drinking shape-shifting lizards? Some fekkers will believe anything.

But it is!

... look at Blair and Bush!!!... if those two aren't lizards seperated at birth and placed in different countries for the express purpose of spreading their families world domination, then I'm a Dutchman!. :x 8)

DEcon,You got it right..that was the myth...i`m not saying cooper was crap, cause he was a good old british pro...
Harry carpenter said on that .programme"there were only 2 heavies way out in front the rest at that time...cooper and liston."..and that unblevable comment tells us carpenter plays along with the myth, just like Bruno`s myth....pathetic

When did he say that??... I've never seen or heard Carpenter say that. I agree with some of the more saner things that you say on other threads but your veiws on Cooper are simply illinformed, and they also clash with your admiration for Joe Bugner... Cooper gave Bugner a very tough fight at 37... if he was so bad, what does that make Bugner??.... 8)

Hi Silco,
I`ve no admiration for assie joe,he shamed himself and british boxing with typical..could`nt care less" attitude agaist poor fighters like bodell cooper...the only point i tried to make was big joe was far superior than most heavies around late 60`s 70`s and if he got his head right would have won the world title,no trouble...probably in many fans eyes very boring, because he knew how to keep out of trouble, only holmes was as good and i think it would have been a close thing between the 2 if joe didn`t stop him.

But Cooper was not a poor heavyweight... he was a very good fighter and the best heaby in Europe for most of the 60s. Bugner was good but you seem to have fogotten about Bonavena, Chuvalo and Quarry.... you can't rate Buger above them...

i rated quarry ,if he had proper managment he would have been king, bonavena had a brilliant record probable the best of all,if you take out disqualifications, but big joe would have found no trouble in handling that brawler ,as for chuvalo, what a toughguy he was,but big joe would have stopped the canadian indian on cuts fairly early...for sure..

Yeah but you can't say if Bug had a different mental attitude he would have been number one because mental attitude is one of the main things that makes a great fighter. How would Bugner have stopped Chuvalo when Ali failed to do so twice?... and Ali was a better puncher than Bugner... both Chuvalo and Bonavena would have been too strong for Bugner...

Collins2000 says Tiger ought to put up or shut up with his semi-legible claims.

Silkov asks why Tiger has neither confirmed nor denied that he is infact Brian London... hence the 'I don't like enery' attitude...

Hi Silco,
Who said i didn`t like henry?,this post was THE MYTH OF HENRY COOPER...and the record books tell us IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS this is correct.
To be honest, this posting could have been called THE MYTH OF HENRY`S HAMMER,because cooper NEVER-EVER knocked out a topclass heavy....FACT....
Herny`s hammer was dreamt up ,because of Johansons THOR`S HAMMER,but in henry`s case was laughable, just like when he knocked ali down---big deal-----so did sonny banks.without the hype

I think you are being unfair on Henry. He was a decent fighter with a dangerous left hook. If by the myth you mean the long interval between rounds when he decked Ali the I agree that has been blown out of proportion over the years. I've heard people saying it was a 5 minute break when it was in fact only 5 seconds longer than it should have been.
Someone mentioned earlier that Banks floored Ali and no-one speaks about that but the fact is Cooper completely scrambled Ali's brain, he didn't have a clue where he was. If that knockdown was a minute earlier who knows what would have happened ??? banks only scored a flash knockdown against Ali.
In fact Ali was once quoted as saying Cooper hit him with the hardest single punch in his career. Not a bad acolade considering Ali fought Liston, Foreman, Shavers, Frazier etc...
A common thing about Cooper was he cut badly, which although he did, only 3 of his losses where due to being stopped on cuts.

Tiger thinks Cooper was crap and that Brian London was our best heavyweight in the 60s.... this despite the fact that Cooper spent much of the 60s rearranging Londons face!!!... 8)

SO once against..TELL US ..A TOP MAN cooper KNOCKED OUT....

You need to get your facts right before posting.....Ali was 18-0 (14 kos) when he fought Cooper first. And after stopping Cooper he fought Liston next for the world title. Who gave Ali the harder fight Cooper or Liston?

I`m still waiting for someone to tell us a top heavy cooper knocked out
Dear old henry couldn`t hammer a nail,he couldn`t take a punch either
Don`t get caught up in the hype,he never knocked a top fighter out(even plenty of light-heavies and cruisers went the distance,or knocked henry out...for sure

8)

Henry`s hammer,don`t make me laugh

Any other fighter, after his awful performances would have retired, like his brother did,the only thing that saved henry, was a great manager, and the london press...what a myth...and you jokers on here still believe it 30 years later...
Tiger will end his postings on this topic by quoting 2 of the greatest heavies of all time,ALI:---Coopers nothing but a bum and a tramp
Frasier:---A joker like cooper
And i think that just about sums it up...
Now then,i wonder who`s hype should be next in TIGER POMFRETS blast from the past.....i mean my postings...NOT henry`s hammer

Why don't you tell us what top heavyweights London knocked out or why London kept losing to enery in the 60s?... did someone put something in his water??.... as London was so superior to Cooper I'd like to know why Cooper kept beating him up all the time.

who was?... but remember Cooper was stopped on cuts in both his fights with Ali, he was never floored or hurt in any other way, he certainly did a lot better against Ali than Brian London did...

>>>Hi Silkov. I think I'll come onto this thead to get away from Barry the maniac!<<<
What is a “thead?” Do you know how ridiculous this little act here is for you? You just decided to come over here to get away from me...you don't actually have anything to add to the actual topic...you just wanted to say hi and just hang out on this page for a little while...is that it? If you really wanted to get away from me why didn’t you just turn off your computer dumbass, besides, if you had really been trying to get away from me, then you should have left my name out of your useless and senseless post! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…You are one sad, strange little man!
Besides, do you really think that Silkov wants you following him around the forum? Or is it that you are just desperate to try to find someone to agree with you now that one of your own countrymen has gone against what you said in the other thread that you were yapping in. I think its desperation, but Silkov has more class than you could hope for. I guess you figured that since we had a pretty heated argument yesterday that he would be all ready to agree with your stupid ass, but problem is...unlike you, Silkov knows that I respect his opinion on boxing, so I would say that you are reaching out to the wrong person for support against. Don't worry, Collins will be online before too long, so you two can debate with each other and maybe together you might be able to figure out how to use proper English!
I apologize to those in this thread who had to endure these two completely off-topic posts, but you can blame it on Arsenal for bringing it over here when he should have left it in the other thread.
