Watching the fight live, it just looked that Gomez gave everything he had in rounds 1-4 and when he started getting hit in round 5 he didn't fancy it and walked away.

Colin Kenna siad he tried to start trouble with Peter at the weight in, going for him etc and then was smashing up the dressing area afterwards.

On a side note, what an excellent venue for boxing, small and intimate with great views and the crowd were superb, all boxing fans coming to watch great boxing, couldn't see any of the usual eijeets that you normally get.

Wouldn't have wanted to miss with Joe Egan, I was sat behind the Hyland brothers and he kept coming over for a chat, he's huge and his hands are like shovels, wouldn't wanted to have messed with any of the boys with him either! Does anyone know if the guy with him was Cass Pennant of the ICF fame?

Also a guy game over to speak to the Hyland brothers, black, 6'2, goatee beard looked like a boxer and was sat ringside, anyone know who he is?

Rub it in why don't you!! Don't think there would be a single bad view in the whol stadium. Didn't Cass look all dapper in his three piece suit, like a bank manager or something, totally different to the pictures in his books!

One funny moment was when Joe Egan called Cass from one side of the arena, and Cass heard him even though he was sitting the other side and came walking over..

Just watched the ending again, and was wondering was Gomez trying to walk out of the ring straight away? he seemed to be sat on the outside of the ring apron as soon as the fight was stopped, I'm not sure what Billy Graham was doing as he got into the ring and kind of ignored Gomez and went straight over to McDonagh.

One other thing, Gomez didn't seem to be pulling his punches in the first 4 rounds, he landed some hard shots that could have stopped McDonagh especially to the body.

If it was a 'set up' why did Gomez smash his dressing room up afterwards?... this fight seems to have all the hallmarks of a shot fighter being found out thats all.

You have to wonder what will become of Gomez now as his boxing career seems well and truly over... he doesn't deserve to be called a cheat imo...

Best one was after. Some fans wanted Frank Maloney's autograph and he signed and then told them Roy Hilder was his dad so they just had to get the signature of Roy Maloney, it was hilarious.

Kev , as you were ringside. did it look like anything but a genuine fight in the completed rounds ? were there any rumours ringside that something wasn't right?

was just wondering as things can look different when your there and not watching it on TV.

There was a lot of talk earlier in the day about Gomez really struggling to make the weight some were saying he may have lost eight pounds in the 48 hours prior to the weigh-in and others that he lost five pound to make the weight on the day and that bookies weren't taking any big bets on a stoppage for McDOnagh, it seems every round was 125/1 and they were only taking 20 and 30 euro bets.

Certainly Gomez didn't look like a man looking to throw the fight he was landing some big shots early on and McDonagh was marked up around the face after the fight and he certainly staggered past when making his way back to the dressing room and wasn't anyway to be seen after the fight instead staying in his room while everyone else had a beer or two downstairs.

Well i hope it wasn't a fix, but mud sticks , so Gomez will always be tainted by this, shame as i like the guy.

Just a thought how about Peter McDonagh v Amir Khan?

I was sat behind Gomez's corner and Billy Graham looked furious when Gomez was shaking his head almost like he was pissed off that Gomez had quit. Gomez tried to go straight to the dressing room but was stopped by the tv people, Billy etc.

I don't think there was anything bad in this, Gomez tried his hardest in the four rounds previous and couldn't put him away, and when he started to get hit back I think he knew he had nothing left in the tank. He could have had problems with the weight or maybe is shot.

This was my Dad's first boxing fight and he leaned over and said to me it looked like when Haye fought Thompson, when Haye threw everything he had in the first couple of rounds, knackered himself and Thompson absorded it and then flattened him. In simple terms it was a bit like that.

I hope and don't think there was anythign dodgy, pity that a great night of boxing will be tainted by it if it is.

Kenna put Simpkin down in the third I think I wasn't reporting on the show so Can't remember now!.

Simpkin gave it a good shot and got some good shots in but looked a sorry state by the end of the fight.

Must admit the last few rounds weren't that memorable!! :-)

I'll be there definately, he'll need to up his game for the Steeds fight, although Luke makes it difficult for people I felt Colin held his hands too low and was looking for the knockout blow instead of boxing his head off. The plus was he went 8 rounds for the first time but both were tired and I can't see Steeds puffing from round 2 onwards. He knows it wasn't his best performance and will be back in the gym tomorrow hard at it. I was telling him on the plane going out that Steeds was rumoured to be fighting Bowe a few weeks after their fight and that annoyed Colin, obviously I emblished a little bit saying Steeds seems to think he's coming down for an easy night and is already looking past you, which annoyed Colin so hopefully he'll be in the ring hungry like he was against Wayne L.

Should be another good day at the Guildhall with lots of local boxers fighting - Topper do you know if Jay Morris has a fight lined up on this?

I hope to get down to Southampton for this one. I don't think Steeds will fight Bowe, Bowe's people say it's a hoax. I waiting for an e-mail from Gleason's in New York to confirm that they offered the fight to both Steeds and Bowe.
