On the criteria that cream (talent) rises to the top I'm still happy to support Audley. When he beats Guinn he'll get stick, if he wins a title or note he'll get stick, if Lewis came back and Audley KO'd him Audley would get stick (Lewis) as well for that matter and finally when he retires Audley will get stick. He is a divisive figure is our Aud' but I'll stick to this side of the divide and continue to enjoy his fights (I actually enjoyed the last one BTW). Audley will become a true Champion and that may sound crazy but then I am a fan. He is going to KO Guinn in spectacular fashion as well.
Some excellent posts Terence :TU:

People have been too quick to right Audley off IMO lets see what happens in the Guinn fight, it would be a fantastic result if Audley could be the first one to stop him, but whether he wins or loses I'll still be a fan

No one wrote Audley off, he wrote himself off. e basically didn't show up to fight the biggest fight of his life thus far...yes, bigger than the gold medal. He had a very beatable opponent in Williams, and had his window of opportunity sitting in front of him. And what did he do with that window? He slammed it shut on his own fingers and cost himself dearly in regards to getting a World Title shot anytime soon. He is 34 years old, and is still looking for a good win as a pro. He's beaten some good opponents, but nothing that would put him in that World Class status that he put himself in before the Williams fight. All that before the fight, not including calling Williams a clubfighter and nothing more, and then goes out and basically puts his tail between his legs and gives in during the fight. He has talent, but he lacks the desire and heart to make anything of that talent.
That is bang on the money. A performance like that is made all the worse because of the shit he was coming out with prefight that Williams was a clubfighter and not in his class etc etc. He was a beaten man before he even got into the ring that night, if you have a recording of it watch his ringwalk again. That smacks to me of a guy with a false bravado and his confidence is a facade. The Guinn fight could be the end of the road if he loses so lets hope he shows up mentally this time and gets himself into some sort shape for a hard fight. If he shows up with the same conditioning (or lack of) he showed against Williams then its game over.

Guinn has a really good chin, I fail to see how feather fists-no aggression can knock him out in 6 rounds. You are clearly dellusional. ;)

There's no denying that Audley didn't fight to his full potential on December 10th and he'll need to fight better than that against Guinn to get the win, but IMO hes capable of doing that. He will have analysed what went wrong and hopefully hes gone away and put the wrongs right, we'll find out if hes been successful in April.

The HW division is still very open, if Audley beats Guinn and then goes onto beat another well ranked opponent (Brock, Peter, Maskaev etc) he is in line for a title shot.

As Audley said "....this is not the end of my career...this is the beginning."

The 14th April can't come soon enough

I honestly can't believe there is anyone left buying into his crap after last time out that wasn't a one fight blip he has shown that same lack of aggression and conditioning throughout his career. At least it should all be put to bed if Guinn shows up to win.

I just don't really see much grounds for any optimism about Audley's career now. How exactly at 35 is he going to improve sufficiently to do anything in the division?
Exactly my point.

Audley has never done anything in his 'career' to suggest that he'll amount to anything.

The Williams 'fight' just confirmed all my worst fears about him.

Add in the fact that he's in his mid 30's & has zero stamina, I really think those that are optimistic about him are owed money by him, because I can't seen any other reason for it. :box:

Guinn is in for a right fornicating hiding, hes going to feel the full force of the December 10th backlash.

I reckon Audley makes a few style and aggression amendments, then comes out on April 14th and makes a statement. It'll be great to see the BIG man back in the ring again :D

I like the way that Audley hasn't been scared to do things his own way, no matter what flak he takes. One of the main reasons I alligned myself with BIG Aud was because when he started his pro career the country should have been getting behind Our Gold medallist, but in true British tabloid style he was circled on immediately and there was loads of undue stick thrown at him. I see that Amir Khan is taking plenty of stick over his standard of opposition already and its total bollocks, people just like moaning!!

Guinn is going to face the full fury on April 14th and hes in for a right fornicating shoeing

He had one bad night and suddenly he is a pariah. No one is denying he has skills so how outlandish is it to think that a highly skilled fighter can come back? Some seem to think it is impossible and that is laughable. He is being made out to be lazy, a coward, a celebrity seeker, a reality TV reject, the final gunman on the grassy knoll and next week is on trial for the abuction of shergar. Talk of him being beaten by Guinn are speculative, as is my proclamation of victory. If you think he is a waste of time and talent then don't watch him fight, or waste time speculating on him for that matter. As I said he seems to hold a fascination for a lot of fans, even if it is negative it maintains his profile; where there is a profile there is a chance of biggish fights, as evidenced by this Guinn fight.
Terence, I admire your optimism about Harrison, but I just cannot share it with you.

I have never been impressed with him, for reasons that I have already explained & couple that with his age & terrible stamina, I believe that his 'future' looks rather bleak.

I agree with you about his skills. He lacks power & stamina, but has very good skills.

The saddest thing about the Williams fight is that he could have won it at a canter, but his spinelessness prevented him from doing so.

Danny Williams is an average fighter when in shape & fully fit, the Williams that Harrison lost to was out of shape & injured, yet Harrison was still scared! :o

I don't mind if a fighter isn't the best ever; Matthew Saad Muhammad is my all-time favourite fighter, but the 2nd biggest sin a boxer can commit is spinelessness as far as I'm concerned.

Harrison committed that sin & as a result, he is in my boxing room 101.

It's not just moaning. People can spot a wanker a mile off, especially one who talks about himself in the third person all the time. "Audley Harrison this", "Audley Harrison that". Oh dear. As for "come on Audley"... why exactly? has he really given you as a fan so many memories? The only memory I have of Audley Harrison, bar a few one-sided and forgettable televised bills is paying £100 for a 'fight' ticket to see him stink the place out and still raise his glove in blind hope at the end of it.

What's happening to Khan is very different - he's a likeable individual who is been hyped way too much by a desperate media (read I-T-V). The pressure must be huge, but he seems to be level-headed enough about it all at the moment. Good luck to him.

There are plenty of boxers who talk about themselves in the third person, do you dislike them all? Audley rarely does this anyway.

It was Audley and Danny who 'stunk' the Excel arena out not just Audley and Audley was quite within his rights to raise his gloves at the end of the fight, the fight could have been scored either way as was reflected in the judges scoring.

The reason I say "Come on Audley" is because I'm a fan of his, I admire his skills and I like how he wanted to conduct his career in his way and how hes stuck to his guns. I still think there is plenty more to come from Audley

With regards to your 'Audley Harrison memories' comment, you only really get definitive memories of fighters when they are in BIG fights, which is the stage of the career that Audley is entering. Audley has put on some good performances though, the finishes to the Wiggins and Davis fights were excellent and showed what Audley can do on the offensive when hes in the mood, the Hersisa and Ellis performances were top draw IMO and he looked very impressive in his first stint in the US against Nix, Diaz and Navarre.

Fair point. BOTH of them should have been ashamed to raise their gloves after what had just been endured.

Agreed. Fights which show courage, skill and make for excitement. Audley has shown skill but none of the other qualities. He's just a boring, technical boxer who doesn't want to get comitted in the ring and doesn't have the stamina or a good enough jab to keep it long range all night. Winning Gold medal has been his best moment so far. The rest has been forgettable.

I've got to stop posting on frickin Harrison... he's not worth the energy.[/quote]

IMO We'll see the best out of Audley when someone is coming after him, so that Audley can counterpunch the fornicate out of him. I've seen Guinn fight a few times and he seems to like fighting this way, so fingers crossed
