Had Skelton winning by either 1 round or 2 (lost count a bit amid the excitement), but Williams probably did the cleaner work overall so it's hard to argue too much with the decision. Hopefully Danny wins the title off Valuev and they rematch at the end of the year with the WBA strap on the line...

15 seconds to go and Rawling reckons the ref will stop the fight for Matt's cut

If only Mickey Vann were there to admonish Skelton about the naughties with his ead.

Do you reckon that in the close rounds Dave Paris sided with the champ Danny and decided Skelton didn't do enough to take the title.

If both titles were on the line then he may have scored the fight differently.

Should of been 10 - 8 to Danny My T sharp in the 12th.

How the hell can you say the ref was disgraceful? He was very generous to Skelton.

Yeah I agree a rematch would be good and it deserves one.

Did Skelton touch down, or are you just going on Williams pressure? I don't think Danny landed many clean shots aside from the one which wobbled Skelton.

Hows it's scored when you cut or knock them down.

Cuts don't affect the score (except WBC for headclashes). A point off for every knockdown so 10-8 for 1 knockdown 10-7 for 2 knockdowns etc.

Skelton deserved to lose points anyway with all them fouls so the ref was very generous to him.

I am staggered that anyone could think the commentators were biased towards Danny, far from it.

You people need to try watching with the sound off, Skelton's mauling and fouling was disgraceful, he constantly pulled Danny on, waded in with his head, held danny and hit him, and pushed him over the top rope on numerous occasions.

Very few of Skelton's shots landed with any real conviction, most of them didn't even land, and those that did were often on the shoulders or arms, or didn't land with the knuckle part of the glove.

Every time Skelton landed a glancing blow, Rawling and McKenzie would start screaming "DANNY'S GONE! HIS LEGS HAVE BUCKLED" then on the replay you would see the shot barely grazed him and he was just off balance.

I had Williams winning that one easy, yes there were a lot of close rounds, but Danny picked up a lot of rounds with the jab alone, because there were a lot of rounds where little was landed.

People seem to seem to think you win rounds merely for coming forward, but you have to be effective and charging into your opponent and leaning on them is not actually effective aggression.

I scored it to Williams 115-113.

EDIT: Good post by James above.

To win a round 10-8 without a knockdown you have to hammer your opponent pillar to post, not merely hurt them with a couple of shots.

Skelton's technical limitations were clear to see on the night, if Danny was the fighter of 3 years ago, he would have knocked Skelton silly, but he isn't sharp or mobile enough any more to do that.

He won't beat the giant Valuev if they fight, for all his flaws, Valuev will outwork and outjab the ponderous Williams.

Danny had the better repertoire of shots in the contest. He had a crisp left jab and a long left hook, and later followed the left jab with a right over the top and got the left working to the body...so yes Danny had all the skill.

The problem was that Danny's speed and workrate were terrible. Skelton was crowding him with slow shots and everytime was looking for the uppercut. I gave Skelton the early rounds on merit because Danny started slow, then Danny got back into it before Skelton got back at him in some close rounds which I scored the Skelton because he was setting the pace, obviously Danny got the last which got me to 115-114.

I scored it as an even fight, whereas normally close rounds I would give to the beltholder, so it isn't a scandalous decision...it's just that Danny's workrate wasn't impressive enough for me. 8)

We are getting the fight now on scandinavian TV. This is the worst referee I have seen for a very very long time.

In what way Freiheit, I thought he was apalling in allowing Skelton to foul the fornicate out of Williams, I mean he planted a deliberate headbutt on Williams in the 1st fornicating round, and continued to maul, push, wrestle, butt, all the way through the fight.

Agreed, the commentators were either biased towards Skeleton or they couldn't tell the difference between a shot that landed and 1 that didnt. Danny punches were really clean but Skeleton was the stronger and the aggressor and the 1 coming forward and throwing more (but landing less) - which is why some gave him rounds he looked like he was doing more damage even if he hardly landed anything.

I just got in from watching it at a mates house. Had Danny winning clearly either 7-5 or 8-4. Skeleton should have been docked points. The last round was a debateable 10-8 - Skeleton was hurt and wobbling but I wouldnt score it a 10-8.

Danny won this at 271, imagine what a 250 Danny would do. A 250 Danny would be a world class fighter. Hes had some career already.

I mean any decent referee would have started to take points off after a few rounds. Its mostly Skelton that is guilty but Williams has his moments.

I didnt score it but Danny won at least 7. From memory I gave Williams easily the 1,4,5,6,12 the only clear Skeleton rounds were 2,3 and 1 mid round and 1 late round. Williams won 2-3 others and you could make a case for 8 rounds. Skeleton walked forward and threw allot but Dannys punches landed crisply whereas Skeletons didnt land well very often at all.

Danny is so immobile and leaden footed these days, Skelton was able to tag him easily on the occasions when he did throw a straight armed shot, at one point Williams just stood staring at Skelton, as if taunting him and got drilled right in the mush with

Danny is also less powerful at this weight, he has very little flexibility and isn't putting his body into his shots, his punches are more arm punches than they used to be, and his balance looked poor too, he missed with some really wild lunges.

He needs to shed a lot of weight if he wants to have any chance of realising his dream of winning a title, simple as, giving up chocolate cake during training is not the level of dedication we're talking about here, we're talking drastic dietary changes for a period of 2-3 months and a really long training camp where he gradually shifts the weight.

You could see from Williams upper torso that he was in decent nick, his chest, shoulders and arms looked toned and very strong, but he is carrying a massive thick belt of blubber around his midfriff and lower back which he needs to get rid of.

Did anyone else noticed how Flabby Skelton looked? I thought he looked in pretty poor condition compared to how he has looked before, but his fitness didn't seem to be the issue at all.

Hard fight to score. I'm glad i didnt bother scoring the rounds. Cleaner punches from Williams, and alot of punches inside clinches and leaning from Skelton. Ok he was coming forward and always threatening but i thought Danny did well with his jab.

Can't really argue with the verdict but i don't think i would have argued too much if it had went to Skelton by the same margin.

Terry O' Connor should have took a point in the fight. Pick a round. I agree with James the first round Skelton blatantly used the head. A referee should not be able to just issue constant warnings throughout the fight for the same infringement and do nothing.

I thought Skelton would win this but from the first bell found myself rooting for Danny and was made up when he staggered Skelton in the 12th.

Lets see a rematch.

Well!!??
