Still have to admit the best fight at 168 for Joe is Kessler. Beyer is an afterthought if Joe gets by Mikkel.

Without acclaiming Calzaghe as the saviour of boxing due to one performance, I honestly can't see anyone making quick work of him, certainly not a jab-merchant like Kessler. Although whoever created this screen name knows that as well. Which begs the question: Why am I answering?

I remember that the German fans were well pissed off with Beyer-Colajanni. He was booed out the ring if i recall correctly. I don't think anyone's going to buy into any more Beyer fights vs substandard opponents. Seems like he has to do something and fast or he'll risk becoming a bit of a laughing stock.

Not again. We differ sharply in the assessment of Mundine. So be it, but we don't need to chew this through 200 times.

Besides, it's not only the quality of the opposition that makes me think highy of Kessler, it's also HOW Kessler handles his opponents, dominating every second of the fight. He's a complete fighter who seems to be able to adapt to any style, and his defensive abilities are second to none in the higher weight classes. Thus, he's not only very good, he has also a STYLE that ought to be troublesome for Calzaghe. And styles make fights. Again, Calzaghe has not fought any classy evasive counterpunchers EXCEPT for Reid where he almost lost.

The one-line summary: while Beyer-Calzaghe would be more meaninfgul than Lacy-Calzaghe, I really want to see Kessler-Calzaghe.

And I'm almost certain we'll never get that fight. If Calzaghe proves me wrong here, my respect for him will skyrocket. Take my word for it.

Seems you haven't seen Beyer in a while. Beyer-Sheika was pretty impressive; and Beyer-Green II was VERY impressive, at least for 11 rounds. Beyer seems to be back where he was when he stepped onto the scene.

JOE CALZAGHE'S hopes of winning a third world super-middleweight title were dashed yesterday when Markus Beyer, Germany's W B C champion, priced himself out of the fight.

Promoter allegedly had made Beyer an offer to fight WBO and IBF king Calzaghe at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium on Saturday, July 8.

But he revealed: "They wanted two million dollars (£1,150,000) plus the German TV rights and that's totally unrealistic.

I would bet that this fight would never happen, both sides are bluffing each other and the public as well. I don't see how Beyer beats Calzaghe, Calzaghe throws way too many punches he doesn't stand and pit pat like Alberto Colejanni, Beyer is bound to look good against some of the crap he has been served up with of late. Sanavia (Blown up Middleweight who Beyer is 1-1 with) Nishizawa (who lost to Dale Westerman and dropped Beyer), Green (Who i thought won), Sheika (B level fighter) and Colejanni (where they dug him up from i do not know).

There is due a changing of the guard at Super Middleweight anyway, Calzaghe will inevtiably move up and Beyer is as good as retired, may as well be given the competition he has been facing lately anyway. Kessler can possibly rule after they both disappear but who knows how many fights in him because of this condition he has with his back. Jeff Lacy is a doubt now after that beating he took, whether he will ever be the same again is questionable in my eyes. But there are good talented fighters coming through like Chad Dawson, Yusef Mack and Lucien Bute...maybe Cark Froch? And Jackson Chanet looks useful but possibly at European level only.

We'll see, Franks been making some great contests over the past 9 months and now hes got the backing of ITV's money. Calzaghe is BIG business now, his Lacy performance got the country talking and has raised his profile no end. Viewers=££££'s

Actually they might well risk that Kessler would say yes - which is why they offered a different number the only time they answered to Kessler's calls....... 50.000$ for a unification fight. Pfft.... if that isn't ridiculous. They didn't even dare to offer 200.000 or something for fear that Kessler might actually say yes anyway.

I remember the majority of the US saying Lacy was the champ and he was going to come to the UK to knockout Joe .......... before going on to beat Tarver, Tyson and King-Kong.

Calzaghe held the WBO-belt and made loads of defenses agasint tomatco-cans and have-beens. Probably the poorest record of all beltholders. He has never been "the champ" at 168 - this is an entriely different thing.

As for Lacy, the uninformed US public hyped him up badly before the bout. But it was always clear to me that the immobile Lacy was taylor-made for Calzaghe, and that team Calzaghe would used this fight to push Joe's reputation - who had become known as a compulsive ducker - with an ultimately cheap win, while continuing to avoid the real challenges.

And everything plays out EXACTLY as predicted.
