Because the squeaky wheel gets the grease. He's made a fool out of himself with the whole contracts being signed, and people are now interested to see him in some of those fights. So, would you put it beyond a commission to move them up their ranks for non-boxing related reasons?Freiheit wrote:He is rated 5 by The Ring and 6 by boxingtalk.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Blimey, stand corrected, he's ranked 5th! Again, based on what precisely? I see nothing in his record to have him rated so high, certainly not by independent rankings, which the ring sort of are.Freiheit wrote:He is rated 5 by The Ring and 6 by boxingtalk.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Blimey, stand corrected, he's ranked 5th! Its the same principle as Maussa - he beat Riveria, who beat Trabant who was probably in the top 10 based on his run as EBU champion.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Blimey, stand corrected, he's ranked 5th! Based on what for christ's sake!?
The devision hasn't much depth to it and Riveria (as a result of the Trabant win) had probably acquired a top 5 ranking at the time.
Although now the devision is packed with stars it is hard to keep Collazo in the top 5, top 10 maybe but not top 5.
Baldomir, Mayweather, Judah, Spinks, Margarito, Gatti should all be ranked above him.
Collazo, Mitchell, and Urkal probably finish off the top 10.

Hence j/k - just kidding, I think the Gonzalez win does look pretty good, you have to be top10 or top5 to beat him imo. If they fight for the WBA title IN-THE-USA, HE is the MAN. Hatton’s 140 titles don’t mean a thing in the welters.

Totally agree Blue, the trouble is in this country if they haven't heard of someone they dismiss them as a nobody. I've seen Luis fight three times and know him also and whilst I think Hatton would destory him he is entitled to ask for $1M.

He certainly is. The more I think about the fight, the more it becomes a good fight for Hatton. Gives him a foothold at 147 and some bargaining power when it comes to other fights at the weight. With PBF, Gatti already at 147 and Cotto likely to join them in the next 12 months, I can see Ricky beating Collazo and staying at welter. Why would he want to drop down to fight Ben Rabah then go back up for Gatti?
For sure, move up and get paid for your fight with Collazo, fight Gatti if he beats Baldomir for a unification fight and even more money, then surely he will be ready (financially that is, wanting to make big bucks at small risk. I don't think he is going to improve technically) for go for a fight with Mayweather. Fighting Rabah for a small purse seems pointless.

Oh right, that's the trouble with ONLY this country is it ? If it weren't for the fact you'd been over there when he was fighting on business, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have heard of him either. It's all well and good giving it the big one boxingchat, but HOW is it you know him, oh yes, that's right, because you work for a well known boxing promoter, despite all of your denials.boxingchat wrote:Blue wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Blue, are you telling me that in America then, Collazo is a highly regarded and well known champ, if you are, you are talking bollocks, Collazo is the definition of a paper champ, he's beaten absolutely nobody of note and was handed the opportunity for a belt due to the malarky of the sanctioning bodies.MightyWarrior wrote:Don't be a plonker. Funny but I have heard NOTHING about Collazo from any of my American colleagues, nor have I heard his name mentioned anywhere prior to the talk of Hatton facing him.
Fact of the matter is, Collazo isn't a draw, If he were, I'd have heard a lot more about him by now. To say that Collazo is THE MAN is bollocks, let's see his million dollar payday for fighting someone other than Hatton.
It's nothing to do with weights. If Mayweather moved up to Light Middle and fought Roman Karmazin or Kassim Ouma for a vacatnt title, or even if one of them had the belt, who would be THE MAN? Mayweather, that's who.
all that aside, if Hatton wants to make a mark in America, he needs to stop quibbling about his end of the purse, and announce a fornicating opponent because everyone is getting royally bored by all this talk. If it ends up with a piss weak opponent then Hatton's rep will suffer.

Firstly, don't you mean Monkey?jamesmcdonnell wrote:It does occur to me you know, after all, when quizzed about who employed him before Boxingchat did reply 'I'm self employed.'
Perhaps we've been crossing swords with the organ grinder and not the money all this time.
My comment being Collazo is the MAn was in the contexgt that he has the belt and Hatton wants it so thereofre by being the Champion and Hatton the challenger,is he not the MAN?
The Champion is entitled to get paid for putting his belt up isn't he. Don is hardley going to bow down and present him on a plate for Hatton is he.
My point was, regardless of Collazo's credibility, he has the belt and Hatton should pay the money and buy the title. If as many of you say, he is a paper champion, why does Hatton want him, if Hatton beats him will you call him paper champion as well?
By the way, I haven't seen him 3 times at all....it was four and therefore I am entitled to say that this is a walk in the park for Ricky and I fight I would make straight away to move away from his numerous problems at 140 lbs.
Team Hatton are making fools of themselves in the US and being far too greedy and short sighted. HBO, Foxwoods and the US promoters are becoming tired of them as they did the Hameds. I hear Foxwoods have pulled the plus and now he fights on a McBride show in Boston so to get a decent crowd for his US debut.
IMO he should scrap the whole deal and fight prime time on Sky against Witter to re-establish his interest in the UK before it is too late.
Witetr will end up as WBC champion and leave Hatton with egg on his face
if he then moves up to 147 without facing the man he claims he alway's wanted to ALLEGEDLY.
All in all, it's a shame that such a nice kid is being ruined by the greed and stupidity of his father and the cheap backroom team he has assembled none of whom have any experience whatsoever at championship level or with broadcasters.

Please, enough of the faint damning praise, I have a reputation to uphold.
I wondered why Boston was the location, that makes more sense if McShite is involved.
My knowledge is about as good as the time I can afford to devote to boxing allows, which these days is not as much as I would like. I think I try to be fair, even handed and reasonable when I do write something, giving praise where due, and criticism where earnt.
I've been critical in the past for instance of sports network for some of the fare they served up on Sky, whilst understanding that in part Sky were to blame for their insistance on title belts even of the Mickey Mouse variety.
Now I am critical of the way team Hatton are managing things.
I agree that Collazo is THE MAN in the same way that Baldomir was THE MAN, though Baldomir did at least win his belt from the guy who legitimately beat the man in Spinks.
It makes sense to pick up this belt as a bargaining chip, which it looks like Team Hatton have, though as far as I am aware, Collazo's people are still grumbling over money, and claim they haven't inked the contract yet.
Blue, as for your comment, I speak regularly with many people on the other side of the atlantic who are involved directly in the sport or write about it for a living, and not one of them rates Collazo. He may have been seen on Showtime, but that doesn't make him a draw. Being on the television does not mean you are a star as you well know. Collazo is blatantly a paper champion, and as I have yet to see any tapes of him cannot comment on his style, but his record suggests that he is a temporary belt holder, I could be proven wrong, but I can only go by his record and what others whose opinions I respect tell me.
And yes, if Hatton beats Collazo, I WILL call him a paper champion at Welterweight, but everyone at Welterweight who holds a belt right now is a paper champion, except maybe Baldomir.
If Judah beats Mayweather, and Baldomir beats Gatti, who is the REAL champ? Not an easy one to answer is it.
What if Gatti beats Baldomir, and Judah beat's Mayweather, again, hard to say isn't it.
Boxingchat, as you WELL know, having a belt does not neccesarily make you the man when it comes to negotiations. It definetly is a bargaining chip, but many fighters consider themselves the main attraction, belt or no belt, and are a nightmare to deal with.
It's interesting though that Judah was prepared to fight for peanuts relatively speaking against Cory Spinks to get a crack at the belt. Despite his many flaws as a fighter and outside the ropes, he was smart enough to take the short money, concentrate on winning the belt, and getting a crack at mayweather, which although will be for a reduced purse, still gives him a massive shot at the big time.

McBride is fighting on the same card it would appear. I know McBride is popular in his hometown, but I don't think Hatton will exactly be on the undercard.
