he quite rightly believes he can earn more money for the fight.
I am still waiting for you to tell me when Joe has been paid more than 1m!

Terence wrote: Max, Joe won't make a million for fighting TBA (as no one else has stepped forward) on ITV no matter how many people tune in. On the other hand as part of a PPV promotion it is conceivable that he will make that much money and then some. How much did Ricky make for his last PPV fight against a relatively unknown Coloumbian. The job of a promoter/manager/allegedly FW is to get the best deal financial and otherwise for his fighter, the Woods fight is the best deal but it seems that pride is impinging upon Frank. He should make the PPV deal and make Jope some money, in 5 years Joe will have greatly reduced earning capabilities and SN will not, they should do right by him now.

As for selling a fighter, SN have had years of experience yet after 18 defences Joe was a virtual unknown outside boxing forums, until he beat Lacy and that still won't get him a million. The reason the Jones fight was only briefly mooted is that Jones, even in this faded state, would require big money and SN don't have it to splash about.

You are obviously a big Joe fan but don't let it cloud your judgement as to his one-fight earning capabilities. When Audley Harrison turned pro (with no title defences) he was a bigger name than Joe and on what £100,000 a fight? Fast forward to a stinking defeat and Audley is still as big a name as Joe. Joe is a good fighter but he is not charismatic or lucid enough to win universal public love and acclaim, many hard-core fans (myself included) still find him pretty horrible to watch most of the time and the general public will get excited about this one fight (Lacy) then fade when they realise he is fighting a nothing fight in June.

It sounds like SN are using his recent fleeting (IMO) fame to fill their coffers with a "homecoming" fight. Maybe that Sky fiasco hit them harder than we think?
I reckon if they put a fight together in Wales at a big venue in the Summer, they could probably make Joe a million, primarily from getting a big gate. Audley was on 100k a fight, but he was a novice professional

I agree though that Joe is not charismatic, and he will fade into the background pretty fast unless they capitalise on his performance against Lacy.

If I were a promoter, what I would do is get Joe a defence against a decent opponent, though nobody special lined up for summer, based in a big venue is Wales, (when does the world cup finish though) and ensure that it is screened prime time in the UK, to build the fan base for the next fight. 2 Million watched the last one, but they could get 10 million in prime time.
Yes? thanks for quoting my magnificent comment, I'm flattered and all, but have you nothing to opine?

Terrence, how do you know Joe will fight TBA though?
Max, because he has a fight scheduled for June and the foe is (drum roll!) To Be Announced
I'll bet he changes opponent before the fight , everybody dodges TBA .

Well at least it would give the Welsh fans something to cheer, only for 24hrs though, as England lift the world cup the next day :TU:
no chance.

calzaghe-woods ain't happening.

warren and FA need to stop being pathetic and give the fans what they want.

i think all this FW v DH betting talk is very dull - just do the fight, guys!

but isn't calzaghe fighting will young from x factor or some reality tv star next? is that going to get him £1million? really? i admit, i know shit about putting a show together but i do know that i've been to 11 of joe's wbo title fight since early 1999 and Frank sure hasn't made joe a star yet... he sells no more tickets than woods does, and maybe less

i'd bet my left bollock joe will get less than £1million for july... and yes, the german fight last May was joe's biggest ever pay-day. said so in boxing news and all the sites

From Per Aake Persson news:
"There is still no approval from the WBA in regards of Collazo vs Hatton May 13. The fight can go ahead as non-title but Collazo needs approval for that as well from the WBA. Hatton´s agent Dennis Hobson states in an interview that the WBA can´t stop Hatton from fighting but that´s not really the issue. "

That makes it less worth the PPV if theirs no title even though it shouldn\t be in the first place!
