Bubi is right, Joe can make bigger money by going to Germany. The fact that he got a career high payday by going over there to face Veit again tells it's own story. Germany is the place to be for the big bucks (or Deutschmarks, should I say) these days. It's worth noting that German TV has shown the recent heavyweight title fights at their time, rather than an early morning start in order to accomodate American TV.
Warren is capable of paying him that much though.

Yes, precisely, Warren would be able to pay the money, but Calzaghe (like Hatton did against Tszyu, and McGuigan did against Pedroza) would probably get rather less. That's the biggest stumbling block, because Calzaghe will rightly wonder why he should concede money to take on someone who isn't very highly regarded.

My point about showing times was the fact that both Brewster and Byrd were paid big money (I think it may have been a career high payday for both of them) to go to Germany. And unlike, say Warren getting Tszyu and Lacy over here, There was no need to rely on American TV money. Big, big money in Germany.

Why can they pay so high purses in Germany? I'm a bit puzzled - socccer clubs in Germany for example get much less TV money than English (or Spanish or Italian) clubs.
To be honest Pundit, I'm not sure. Maybe Boxrec's resident German Bubi, can tell us. I'd be interested. I presume the huge interest in boxing is due to the exposure the likes of Ottke, the Klitschko brothers and Michalczewski received.
Not sure if the football money is an issue as such. After all, the money thrown at football dwarves every other sport, particularly in England. If TV companies can throw billions at football, a few milllion for boxing is nothing.
