Here is a tip for you all I won £106 on Sri Lanka beating England in the Cricket yesterday and have wisely invested the whole lot on the Ivory Coast to beat Serbia tonight

Hope it comes up for you! I will help you in this by not getting on with you - I'm a complete and utter Jonah of late.
For three years I recorded every bet I had when I played the spreads as well as the fixed quite a bit. Was a good hobby for two years - lots of excitement and just ticked over - probably a tiny profit per year - but that isn't easy.
Half way through the third year, everything I went on hit the slide. I hardly play now but the last ten or even twenty I've done (barring a crappy £25 notes win on Sale in the rugby) has gone overboard. Can't buy a break.
Could be worse...I hear some Jock had 40k on England to win at 11/8 last night. What a dire goal to do your brains on!

I heard it was 400K

No that was on Italy to beat USA. OUCH!

I know some clown went in to a high street branch and had 50k (at least, might have been more) on England to win the WC at 6s.
How stupid can you get? I don't mean the bet itself...but they were generally available at 7s...literally more money than sense.

im just on the subject of mr bilton again and i know people on here think there maybe something amiss but im an avid boxing fan who considers himself quite knowledgable about the noble art ! ive only posted 1 thread before because ive only recently discovered this site contrary to what people may think. the situation is that i am quite a heavy gambler and although ive never followed one of mr biltons "tips"

i can completely sympathise with people who get agitated with such absolute waffle from a "educated sports writer" ! gambling is a dangerous game to be advising on mr bilton ! good luck

There are no boxing tipsters any more. Derek Bilton is a writer, and a fine writer.

No one questioned the mans ability to write, as for there been no boxing tipsters anymore I think you will find Derek offers his tips on the sportinglife website which is largely based around sports gambling.

You miss my point. He's searching out odds that give you "value for money" - if you fancy putting down a little for a very decent return ( IF it comes off that is ) any fool can stand up and say: Scot Harrison is going to knock out Sam Kebede for instance.
And I'm saying only a fool would say Winky might win in one round - that's clearly not even worth a bet is it?
But I'd say Wright to KO Dawes in one, at 66-1, was a decent bet. I'm not ashamed to say I put a fiver on it....why not?
Wright carries a good punch on him, and Dawes had been caught cold twice in the first and put over - so the form said it MIGHT happen.
I didn't really think it WOULD happen, but there was definitely an outside chance.
And speaking of Graham Houston - he previewed the Dawes/Wright fight, gave his run down on both fighters...and then admits he hasn't seen either of them fight!

That's stretching things a bit I think ( though I do the same of course )
And he still got it bang on!

You are bang on the money there MW.
My missus thinks I know F'all about boxing as my bets rarely come off but as I try to explain to her, I look for bets with some value in em - picking the favourite to win in a two horse race is never going to gain you decent returns but getting decent odds on outcomes which have what you percieve to be a fair chance of success is the name of the game in boxing..
Well, I say that - I havent won a bet on a fight in quite a few months now, so maybe my missus is on the money after all!

Exactly Terry.
I'm in the World Cup Sweep I advertised along with 40 others.
One of them is my missus.
She is comfortably ahead of me, based on correct scores. She knows nowt about football.
Complete shamer.
"I've told you before, let me know who you are betting on and I'll do the opposite," is her constant but embarrassingly accurate mantra.

Exactly - you bet on the good odds rather than what you think will be the outcome.
I won on the Wright-Taylor draw, not because I thought it the most likely outcome, but because I got 22-1 which was far too wide.....

the fact of it all is that no matter how we are all looking for a "good win "it very rarely happens and the only real winner is the bookie himself hence the fact they own gambling establishments and we are looking at the likes of mr bilton for a new quick fix! we cant blame mr bilton for our downfall but obviously a man with such a despicable record of "tips" should give it up as a job not very well done! if mr bilton or any other sports "tipster" were so on the ball why are they bothering wasting their time with us from their mansion in marbella

Oh, for fucks sake. Derek Bilton is not a tipster, we're not dealing with the racing pages here.
Anyone who can pick the results in 50/50 fights more often than not, fair play to you. But let's not knock a man for suggesting value picks in boxing. I'm sure everyone on this board has taken part in some form of boxing prediction league, and how many times do you get shafted on the obvious pick in those?

Klitschko on points v Byrd at 11/8? Don't see any value in that. Better odds were for KO, and the KO was more likely too.
Pacquiao KO Larios, under 8.5 at -100. That's good bet I think, going for first four rounds by KO, hopefully get atleast 15/1

Lets be honest here Ian, if anyone deserves a bit of luck its your missus.

So why is it then when you go to the sporting life website and navigate to the
"FREE TIPS" section his selections come up

i totally agree with hagler6k2, the man gives tips, he is regarded as a tipster by the firm he works for and im pretty sure he regards himself as a tipster therefore he must be regarded as a tipster by people who are looking for tips

It's a fair cop. I am Derek Bilton (Hartlepool's most notorious body-puncher and betting tipster). I am not a tipster per se (I'm a sports journalist) and I don't get paid for my selections but the company do ask me to preview big fights as and when in work hours. Amdittedly I've had a shocker in recent months but if you look at my overall record it's not all that shabby. The big point that some of you have got is that it's no good napping 1/8 shots. My grandad could do that and he's been dead since 1985. I just try to look for a spot of value when I see it though I have been a bit of a shambles of late. I am still calling most of the fights right but getting the results wrong and I'd be willing to have a four-figure bet on myself having tipped more 50-50, 60-40 etc fights than the Boxing News or other publications. If people have followed my selections religiously in the past few month then chances are your living in a shoe box right now and for that I'm sorry. Found the thread quite enjoyable as it goes and I don't mind a bit of baiting. As Eric Cantona once said: "People talk about be because I exist, bien ou mal."

Fair do's, Derek.
I don't read Sportinglife that much, but I do like your contributions to the forum and from that it shows you know your onions. Will have a look at the site more often now. Although, might avoid your tips!
