Hide bowled over lots of clubfighters and over the hill guys but he never KO'd anyone decent. He was carefully matched. In his 2 challenging fights he was beyond pathetic.

I was going to say that. Tucker was reportedly shot to fuckeries when Lewis beat him, let alone when Hide got hold of a clapped out and drug raddled version.

You often hear fighters who get annihilated embarrasingly say things like that "Wow, that guy has got to be the biggest puncher in the division," because it's easier to say that than,

"boy, I'm really shot to pieces, this guy stinks, and I would have probably given him a whipping 5 years ago, but I think it's clear based on tonight's performance that I've got nothing left to offer ths sport except for a series of demeaning and low paid gigs on the clubfighting circuit culiminating in me muttering to myself and urinating on my pants in a dimly lit room in some shitarse part of town."

His best win was against Michael Bentt.

He didn't even fight a particularly decent British fighter for the vacant British title. He fought one of the worse (no disrespect) claimants to a world heavyweight title ever for his first WBO reign. Lost it in defence number 1. Then somehow got a chance to fight for vacant title (by beating on guys with losing records) vs an old junkie who looked sleepy throughout his UK stay that week.

He then defended against I would say the worst fighters to be sanctioned by a leading governing body... these made Tocker Pudwill and Kid Fire McIntyre resemble Ali. Then he lost it to Klitchsko.

Maybe overated isn't the correct word, cause he was undoubtedly talented. I would say most PROTECTED champion ever right from the begining.

You have to ask yourself, would Herbie have beaten Ruiz? Could he have coped with the pressure, the roughhousing, the fact that ruiz wouldn't just fold when hit? Herbie never demonstrated that he was capable of beating a top 10 heavyweight.

Agreed, I couldn't see Hide beating Ruiz, the style is all wrong for him.

I think Herbie would need to do the proving in this matchup. Ruiz has proved he can hang tough and beat top 10 opposition, Herbie hasn't got close to that.

If you look at comparable opponents to other top guys Hide beat them allot quicker.

yes but on his day Tucker was fantastic, even a shot Tucker is a good win, and to take him out in 2 is very good. Look what other fighters performed like with Tucker. A year later he took Ruiz the 11

True, but Ruiz isn't much of a puncher really.

Tucker was I think 42 when he fought Hide, to say a win over even a shot Tucker is 'a good win' is nonsense.

So I guess Kevin McBride's win over Tyson makes him a hell of a fighter then, and Tucker was a lot further gone than Tyson.

My guess, (not having seen it), is that Ruiz' mauling style and relative inexperience, allowed Tucker to hang on in there in an ugly and exceptionally boring fight.

Tucker was 38 when Hide demolished him. He was overweight and in rehab. He NEVER made any comment about Hide being the best puncher he fought whoever said that made it up.

I have Ruiz/Tucker on tape, basically Tucker is in good shape & hasnt travelled half way round the world to fight. His chin is completely gone as Ruiz decks him twice in the 1st rd, beats him up every rd except it the 6th where Tucker nearly knocks him out cold with a counter, Ruiz goes down but the ref ignores it, and he holds til the end of the rd. By the 11th Tucker is beat up & knackered, goes down then stopped on the ropes.

You have to admit Hide can punch, thats why he blew out a shot Tucker & the likes of Ruiz, Akinwande etc could not. Yeah Hide beat up on journeyman but like the old Tyson & Shavers tapes, he was one of those rare fighters where when he hit one of The Usual Suspects of journeyman doing the rounds they tended to do funny things like fly through the air or just go face down. I hate The Herbster but in fairness the guy could hit ridiculously frickin hard with 1 shot. I would have given him a legit shot v Danny Williams if he connected first.

Anybody know how much Herbie earned in his career ???

Anybody remember the in the ring interview after the Bowe fight? That was hilarious, Hide was asking for a rematch.

Well it was close.

A 37 (plus) year old junkie who just looked like a shot fighter throughout or an lucky champion was was in the middle of a religious fasting period in the build up.

It doesn't say much but I plumped for Bent. This is because 2 weeks before the Tucker fight, I put a few quid on Tucker - cause I thought he looked okay vs Lennox and the Seldon fight was interestingly poised (although he was losing). However, when those countdown shows began on Sky - I knew I had wasted my money.
