I have heard that Marciano's split nose in the 2nd Marciano-Charles fight came from
Marciano's corner leaving a Q-tip in his nose in the excitement in his corner.
In those days the Q-tip stems were made of WOOD.
When Marciano came out and Charles hit him on the nose,
the wooden Q-tip tore through his nose, causing the horrible cut.
All Charles had to do after that was stay away for a few rounds and the fight almost certainly would have been stopped.
Marciano's ending the fight in the round he did was a demonstration of a real champion coming through when he absolutely had to.

I've never heard that before. That is incredible if it is true and it would explain the horrendous cut.

I cant imagine you could leave a q-tip up a boxers nose and either the boxer or trainer/cutman not notice it.

If someone left a Q-Tip up my nose, I'd been damn sure to have blown it out my nose or something....that just don't seem a true story to me, if it was me I would have threw a fit until someone got the damn thing out of my nose.

As far as the story Moore goes on how he dropped Marciano and could have finished the Rock off there and then is a bunch of shit, considering Rocky was only down for a count of two.

The nose with a wooden Q-tip still in it.

Just curious, can you provide a source for this alleged mishap?

No punch can slice a fighter's nose in half on its own.
Only a knife could, or the wooden stemmed Q-tip that I mentioned.

Jaclem.....I see you have used your superb writing skills to further the myth that Ezzard was in every way Archie's superior, you seem to do so by demanding that we simply look at the facts and perhaps take heart from Archies own words. Tactics that are often used to inculcate fiction over fact. But you have stooped to new lows by repeating such blasphemous propoganda in what I would describe as a "one two punch"combination post, utilizing the oldest trick in the book....repetition.
I ask you to remember this "that to who much is given, much is expected." Please use your considerable communication skills to give momentum to truth, cease all obfiscatory rumor mongering and of course to keep hope alive.
As we all know Archie should have been given credit for the one and only KO of the Rock but that pesky ref interfered and gave his man a much needed assist in order to shake of the effects of what should have been the game ending shot. The fights with Ezzard were anomolies as was the Patterson debacle.
All signs of a greater force at work in our amazing and expanding universe, these events should serve as inspiration for us all to stay humble and demonstrate humility in our own lives.

boxbuzz,
please dont tell me u believe this myth? film proves archies statement to be bullshit. the ref did not give rocky any extra time. archie simply made this up to make it look like he got robbed vs marciano, to cover up the fact that he got his ass kicked.
perhaps i was a little too hard on archie right there, for he was a great champion(greater than marciano), but facts wut archie said about the marciano KD was complete BS, and its degrading to marcianos legacy.

Archie Moore had no complaints when less than year earlier Harold Johnson knocked Moore flat on his face with a right hand in the 10th round of the Moore-Johnson title fight and referee Ruby Goldstein gave Moore an improper standing count after he got up ----
keeping Johnson from getting any punches off before the bell rang to end the round.
The referee saved Moore's neck there and Moore had no complaints at all.

..there was often a lot of confusion in marciano's corner. al weill instead on butting in when he shouldn't have. i the charles II fight it wasn't a q-tip...in all of the excitement weill inserted rocky's mouthpiece up his nose.

A factor in Marciano's decision to retire was that he wanted to get away from Weil.

Only three people in the world knew this to be a fact....how the hell did you find this out? As you may well know the other two had been dispensed with.......
