Merc my man it was you who initially came out so aggressively in your opening post. I honestly dont think one British poster here has any interest whatsoever in claiming John Duddy or his IBA belt.
Your issue is with the slooow editors, buddy, but none of us. Numerous members give them valuable info every day on countless fighters and they ignore it or refuse to change records.
Its some bizarre ego thing with the editors, no British/Irish issue.
From your English mate, overhand.

I think basically he's a doodle with a house of pain cd, like them think's he's Irish when he's as american as mom's apple pie. You seem to get people like that on their east coast. Probably thinks he has to pretend to be a provo in order to attatch himself to some distant roots. That's my impression anyway, or, as you said, he's just a twat who's come up with something original to troll about.

If this arsehole has had a presumably rare moment of clarity, then just change Duddy to Irish. Big deal.

The political reality is that the Good Friday Agreement laid the framework, whereby anyone in the political divide can be classed as British or Irish. This has been endorsed in International Law and Nationalist/Republican members of that community can apply for an Irish passport, thus their status is then Irish. This is the simple fact and no other debate is necessary. John Duddy has an Irish passport therefore he is Irish. That should be the end of it.
This is the best boxing website on the internet and has a forum to match and I am baffled as to why boxrec are dragging their heals over what should be, from their standpoint as a boxing forum, a trivial matter.
that pretty much sums the whole topic up!

BoxRec has come under recent criticism for it listing of John Duddy is a British boxer when in fact Duddy holds Irish nationality. Duddy's nationality was initially listed on the website as Irish, however, after a number of knockout wins by Duddy his nationality was then altered by the British run website to British. Clan Duddy, which is the management team of John Duddy, contacted BoxRec to inform the website of the correct details Duddy's nationality however BoxRec still refused to alter Duddy's nationality. Members who discuss Duddy's nationality on the Boxrec forum have been threatened with expulsion and many of the threads outlining the details of Duddy's nationality have been altered or deleted on the website

Let's not everybody start slagging eachother off.
For the record, regarding my two posts in the thread, I'm Irish, live in England, have both catholics and protestants in my immediate family-I personally am neither, don't have anything against anybody unless they're a pudendum like this Merc fellow clearly is.

Duddy is Irish, but is eligible for dual nationality, as am I.

Aye, the Irish forget to mention when they post their Wiki links that it says both.
Maybe boxrec doesn't change it because some of the Irish posters give them too much abuse for their posts because some refuse to be civil over politics.

Magee fought for the Commonwealth title though and the Republic of Ireland's not part of the commonwealth since they left so Eamon may have a Brit passport.
According to Wiki links, more Northern Irish prefer Britain.
More are protestant who want it to stay part of here.

On a slightly different note, is Ben Dunne eligable to fight for the British title? Does the fact he is fighting for the EBU title, mean he can fight for the British?
If, yes, he will be in my rankings next month.

Magee held the Commonwealth thats right, but he's not from the Republic of Ireland, he's from Belfast in Northern Ireland.
The Wiki links are correct in most peoples views there.

I don't think so, he's born in the Republic of Ireland and fights under the Irish board in Dublin. He can fight for th EBU as thats European, Rep of Ireland is in Europe etc.
I think if he were to switch to fight under the British Boxing Board and fight in Belfast, he could fight for the British title, although he may need to have a British passport. Don't quote me 100% on the Passport part. McGuigan was born in the Republic of Ireland and held the British title after being based in Belfast.
I rememeber Takaloo could not fight for the British title until he held a British passport, even though he's living in England.
Confusing eh!

Cheers,
Yeah - I just wasn't sure if the Republic of Ireland was considered a part of Europe in its own identity. I knew that the national side played in Euro 1988 (Ray Houghton and all that!). However, I wasn't sure if that was just an UEFA decision (as Israel are surprisingly in the European championship qualifies - despite not being in Europe).
Just brushed up on my geography, thanks to Wikipedia - and yep, R.o.I is in Europe.

Like a geography lesson tonight

............you'd only see Dunne fight for the British if he done a Barry McGuigan and moved into Northern Ireland or another part of the UK etc.
Im going to go to the Dunne Pickering fight, should be a great contest and a good night in Dublin and just 100 miles away rather than a flight this time.

There was no abuse for the first say 500 posts - just solid facts - then JohnShep basically said he didnt give a fcuk about facts its was his site and he could do what he wanted - thats when the abuse started!
