Buster showed us that when he goes against a guy who ACTUALLY fights back he will lose.

Ask Ali how he would have fought Mike. Ask George Foreman where he ranked Tyson all-time.
I was jocking..
Tyson is nothing to people from Ali era. I even heard from an interview when Ali said about.. Tyson: (not quoted pin-point) "Well now theres Mike Tyson but he ain't no Muhammed Ali.
The praise of the 60'th era hW's has climbed into an ludicrous hights. And this forum of the past is all about that. Ali lost atleast two times against a medicore Ken Norton that would have not lasted two rounds against Tyson of the eighties.
Tyson lost to the less than mediocre Douglas.

Tyson is all COULD of done this.....or WOULD of beat him..etc etc
Yet,in his 'prime'(which lasts for only about 25 minutes according to his disciples)who exactly did he beat to suggest he deserves to be mentioned alongside a legend like Ali?
Sorry, but Tyson never beat anything like a great fighter.

that night Douglas was not medicore... and Tyson was partying and was training for two weeks only.. .. - so fight with Buster defines young Mike Tyson?... he would never have beaten a fighter who fights back?
What I have noticed... when Tyson was shown on sport 3 when he faced McBride(those who know what this channel is) all that was shown before the actual fight were all the fights he got knocked out of.. not one fight when he was young, motivated and himselfe knoking people out. That is the image people wanna have when they are thinking of Mike.. so be it.

I hate the "that night Douglas was'nt mediocre" type of nonsense.
I have even heard deluded Tyson nuthuggers say that Douglas on the night he beat Tyson would have beaten any heavyweight EVER
Just another lame excuse.
Tyson was partying too hard etc.....just not good enough.
If it comes out Lennox Lewis was partying too hard prior to his losses, would you Tyson fanatics forgive him his two losses?
Tyson was awesome in his prime,he was a novelty and took the sport back to it's brutal basics, which excites a lot of people.
He was a great fighter for a time, and should be in everybodies top 20 all time heavyweights(he is in my top 15 even!)but,he cannot stand alongside the true legends of the heavyweight division IMO.People like Ali and Louis.
No shame in that, not many can compare to them.

Don't give me that "Clockwork Orange" impression miss. and deluded?

Did I claim this?

Did I say anything about Lewis... its clear whose deluded here you chinese immigrant.
I'd give lewis a fear Chance of beating ALi.. I think lewis have been one of the most complete fighters.
I was asking, does fight with Buster Douglas define young Tyson. Thats all.

I remember Ali saying he could not have done rope-a-dope with Tyson.
Rope-a-dope? By the time Ali was doing that, he was passed
his prime...when did Ali ever do a 'rope-a-dope' between '64-'67? Rope-a-dope was strategy to compensate for loss of foot speed/stamina, IMO...A prime Ali fights everyone at a distance until they are properly 'set up', no rope-a-dope...I
hated that rope-a-dope crap anyway...look at round 11, Ali-Frazier I...that's what can happen with laying on the ropes...

The brightest stars are the longest remembered though.
Comparing Tyson to someone of similar stature like Joe Louis, I'd have put money on Louis by TKO. However, mentality issues aside, I would've absolutely favoured Tyson for the KO.
Mike was a bit too limited to fight a wide range of greats. Against Ali, I see the HW version of Hagler vs. Leonard.
I don't regard Ali as the most gifted HW either, yet he was psychologically probably the strongest fighter of all-time.
I'm not a big fan of the man, but Michael Johnson was hugely single-minded in his running. He beat guys who were more natural 200/400 m athletes than himself.
On talent, I put Iron Mike in my top five. As it is, he's somewhere in the high-teens/early-twenties.
The reason I found him fascinating - even supporting him, was because he was always an outsider; the underdog. All the money in the world couldn't change that.
Muhammad had looks, charm and wit. He didn't need to fight for anyone but himself. Mike was a shadow champ, the modern Liston. Wealthy society isn't ready for anyone who reflects a culture they fear.

...curious...35 - 40 years ago...it was
Ali that 'Wealthy society' wasn't ready for because he 'reflected a culture they feared', Ali was far more hated (not by me, of course!) than even Tyson during his mid/late '60's championship period...but he ultimately evolved into an American Icon...you think Tyson even has the slightest chance in hell to ever improve his image...?

...just a fleeting thought...
