That is excellent news. I'm glad to see Marquez get a shot at a big name fighter. I think he has the style to maybe beat Barrera, who definetly looks to be slowing now, whilst Marquez still seems to be able to fight at a frantic pace judging by recent fights. Cannot see Barrera outboxing Marquez, as Marquez has the better movement and boxing skills overall.
The winner can then move up to get annihilated by the winner of Pacman v Guzman.

Is this real? Marquez-Barrera? Will be fantastic if it happens - seems to be a consequence of Pac's uncertain promotional status writing off MAB-Pac II for the moment.

Marquez Vs Barrera, on paper, is a fantastic match, but I'll not believe it until I see cast-iron proof. And it's probably worth remembering that everytime Barrera has to fight one of his friends he takes it easy. If Marquez has the same outlook it could prove to be a real letdown.

I agree - and Marquez can be in some real stinkers when he's not in with aggressive fighters. Norwood, Salido, and as technically good as it was, the John fight didn't raise the pulse.
But I think it would be refreshing to have a high risk, underrated fighter in with a genuine superstar who normally gets to pick and choose.

One for the purists

Lets hope some real Mexican pride comes out in both fighters and they give us a classic.
Im really glad Barrera hasn't rematched Pacquiao. I think Barrera would suffer a real beating. I'm not sure he fancys his own chances to be honest. Barrera's a proud man as shown by his fights with Morales where he strived to prove himself the better of the two. Also the way he gave Juarez a rematch to shut up the doubters. Yet no rematch for Pacquiao? If the first defeat was really down to a disrupted training camp etc. why not rematch the guy straight away and put the defeat right? I hope Barrera wins Marquez and retires.

Don't see Marquez retiring win or lose, especially if it's close. He hasn't made enough money to retire yet I wouldn't have thought, not with his management teams decisions.
I also agree about a rematch with Pacquaio. I think deep down Barrera knows he cannot beat Pacman. Poor training camp or not, I don't think Barrera can cope with Pacman's speed. If you look at Barrera's victories over Morales, it is his handspeed which gave him the edge, and against Pacman, this edge is gone, and punch for punch, he cannot stand and trade with Manny.
Of course, he has the advantage of knowing to stay out of trouble for the 1st few rounds, but that is easier said than done. Barrera would have to really pull something out of the trunk to box Pacman to a standstill, I don't think he can do that without getting drawn into a brawl at some point, and when that happens, can he really come out on top?

Pacquaio, Guzman, Barrera... I tip the returning Junior Jones to whup them all
http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2/he ... vmGHh.html
Unfortunately, or luckily for Junior, his comeback will hit the rocks long before he has the chance to face Barrera or Pacquiao. I'd take Kevin Kelley over him aswell. The Bobby Pacquiao defeat apart, Kelley's been having an Indian summer with his career. Supposing Junior can work himself down to super bantam/feather there might be mileage in a fight with Wayne McCullough.

If Barrera really doesn't want to know about Pac-Man at this stage then fair enough, but he did look very sharp last time out and he must know he legacy will always be badly tainted by the Pacquiao loss. Surely the whole of Mexico wants to see Barrera restore some pride.
Marquez v Barrera might be a good fight but for me it only contributes to the delay of a far more significant one.

He may have looked sharp, but he struggled with Juarez badly first time around. Juarez is also not anything like Pacquaio style wise.
I think a rematch is probably best after fighting Marquez, because after getting beat down a second time, there won't be many places left to go.
Losing to Pacman is no big taint on his legacy for my money in any case, Barrera has already achieved so much in his career.
Of course, he has to get by Marquez first, and I suspect he will lose that fight.

People have unwisely written Barrera off before. If he commits to a rematch with Pacqiao be sure he will be fully expecting to win.
I seem to remember many comparisons between Pacqiao and Mayorga after Marquez appeared to outbox Manny after that shocking first round. Not saying Barrera could do it but I've watched enough boxing to know you can't overlook the kind of quality and experience that the Mexican brings to the table.

Are you comparing Pacquaio to Mayorga!! Pacquaio has flaws as a fighter, but fewer than before, and let's not forget was a world champion at lower weights before he got to Barrera, it's not like he was some club fighter who got a shot at the big time.
I am not writing Barrera off entirely, but I think he has passed his peak, whilst Pacquiao may not even have reached his yet.
I think that Pacman has a style which would always have bothered Barrera, who has always struggled with speed, because he relies on being able to beat his opponents to the punch.

Out of all of them I'd say Guzman looks hardest to beat, he seems to be able to move in any direction and stay one step ahead all night. He definitely isn't a true banger though so it's not impossible to envisage the right fighter wearing him down.

The fight that I would like to see (not that I think it will happen) is Barrera v Guzman. The winner of which then fights Pacman. If Guzman wins then he will have established himself as an elite SFW and if Barrera wins he affirms his status and sets up a revenge match. Either ways there is a SFW superfight in the offing that can not fail to satisfy the anticipation. And with that we have Valero waiting in the wings.
