nickd, Thinking ahead 'IF' Froch does cross swords with Bute or some such fellow contender and gets the win, assuming it's not wildy controversial, where would your opinion of Carl be then? and where would you rate him on the world scene ?

When that happens he's proved he belongs in that class and of course I'll have a higher opinion of him. But I can't see it happening, his offensive weapons are fine as is his chin but he has NO defence at all. In world class his style will get found out every time IMO.

Fair comments, although I wonder if the words "In world class his style will get found out every time IMO" might come back to (mildly) haunt you.

It wouldn't come as a surprise to me if Carl fails at the first time of asking when stepping up with the top boys but I think he'll be back for more and maybe success will follow later as can often happen.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I'm very surprised McCracken hasn't done somethng about his languid style. Froch himself is almost dellusional often saying he has excellent reflexes hence the hands down but I've never seen it myself.

Nobody can change Carls style, he said I've fought like this since a kid and I ain't changing now.

Carl Froch wins a World title at some point in his career (IMO)

If Kessler moves up possibly. But even then tough, 168 looks pretty good with prospects. As I said earlier there are plenty in the top 10 I would pick to beat Froch.

Any news on what he is up to? Surely European title has to be an option with the world titles all busy.

I think the EBU title could involve a waiting game and not sure Froch's people want that at this stage of his career when he's clearly on an upwards curve. The alternative is rated opposition to get in a mandatory slot with the big 3.

He seems closer to a shot against Kessler than Calzaghe. Imagine what Kessler would do to Froch with that jab. It would be a rout.

I don't know why Calzaghe being waaay better than Froch is such an issue. Calzaghe was also in a different league to Bika, but got sucked into a war when he could've boxed Bika's head off from the outside.
Froch is a bigger puncher than Bika, so if he got Calzaghe to forget his skills and go to war the fight becomes a lot more unpreictable and who the better boxer is becomes a seondary issue.

Calzaghe still won by a mile though, even fighting the wrong fight. I seriously doubt Calzaghe would allow Froch to beat him. And that's what would have to happen if Froch were to win, because as much as he pisses me off at times, Calzaghe is leagues above Froch.

I didn't say Froch would win, just that Calzaghe's usual tactics of going to war (when he's outboxing his opponent) could prove very dangerous. Mitchell could bang and Calzaghe's recklessness nearly cost him dearly in that fight.
Calzaghe stays on the outside, he shuts Froch out. Calzaghe goes to war with Froch, his chin could get well and truly tested.

True, but does Froch really hit that hard? He's only operated at domestic class so far. And Calzaghe may well be a tart when it comes to making fights, but he's a tough mofo inside the ring. I dare say he's been hit with shots as hard as any that Froch can deliver, and he's always come back firing.

Calzaghe has been on the deck against non-punchers before and Mitchell had him in huge trouble. Calzaghe may be tough in the ring, but his smarts are questionable at times.
