It is physically addictive, but there's a limit to how much you can handle, which in many cases increases over time as your body learns to 'tolerate' the drug. Someone who had just tried the drug for the first time, would be killed stone dead if they fixed up with the amount a hardened drug user of 20 years was doing.
Contrary to popular belief, pharmaceutical grade heroin (not the shite people get on the streets) has few harmful effects if correctly administered, and there are many users who have been taking Heroin for decades and holding down often successful careers.
The problems Heroin causes are due to it being done by people living in depressing deprived areas with no prospects as a 'way out' and the fact that it causes infections and other health problems due to the crap being sold on the streets and people sharing needles and not looking after themselves. Obviously if you are living off benefits, and spending every penny you get on smack, living off those nutriment shakes (which seem very popular with junkies for some reason), then you're hardly going to prosper. However, if you are a rich aristo junkie, with access to the best quality gear from your dodgy mates at med school and in the medical profession, with plenty of money and the best food, you can go on indefinetly, as many have done.

A mate of mine had a break-down prior to smoking weed and then took it up heavily because the unit he was in was drab and dull, the NHS make cancer wards nice and colourful and the mentally ill are, in many cases, left to rot in complete dumps because mental illness is fairly unfashionable. It is not down to weed, weed is part of the boredom relief and stress relief. If you are weak-minded you are weak-minded no matter what the drug of choice.
If they were once bright and intelligent and changed the likelihood is that it was on the cards all along. I have my mood swings but is that down to weed? I myself smoked weed pretty much every night since the age of 13. Have I had mood swings? Yes, everyone does. Am I l prone to being lazy? Yes but I was pre-13. I've also done a Ba, an Ma and can bang out three articles in a few days whilst stoned, just don't send me to the shop.
I read reports, to tie in with what Jimmy says, about opium users in Yorkshire in the early 1930's who would get on the gear then go out working all day with their aching bones forgotten, 80 year old women and everything.

Talking bollox am I?... well noones perfect and when it comes to vices one of mine is to talk absolute bollox now and then, but to be honest it seems bollox to me to suggest that the current trend of stuffing white stuff up your nose is particularly healthy or cheerful state of affairs, if you're out and about and having a good time why the need to inhale a ton of talc up the old hooter??.... I dont get it really, ok some can handle it ok and good on them but as time goes on they are the minority and often people who think they are 'handling it' are blind to the real facts. To someone who regularly uses coke I'd ask do you suffer from depression?.... irritability, insomnia etc... little things like that can all creep up and thats not mentioning the strain on your heart and the possibility of one day finding bits of your nose on your pillow beside you.
As I've said before, I'm no monk or anything like that and have done a fair few bits of this and that, but my views on drugs are mainly formed by my experiances and what I've seen them do to other people...
As for Harrison I said in the past that the guy has an illness and I stand by that, ....thats not to say that I excuse his various misdeads, especially the violence.... but anyone who claims that the guy is in his right mind is bonkers themselves imo....

And you're wrong about weed, I had several freinds who suffered mental illness which was triggered by weed while they were at college and University.... theres unavoidable evidence now that weed can trigger mental illness, either by just short term use or over a prolonged period of use....

Coming from the kind of low-life cock who capitalises his numerous screen names to make him seem self-important and whose idea of working hard in the gym amounts to stroking his cock whilst spying on boxers from behind under the excuse of looking for 'spots' I'll take that as a compliment.
Or should I just say QUEER?

Just when we were so close to solving the problem of drug abuse too.
I'd love to make a TV show where you get a bunch of people a big bowl of coke, and an agenda of coming up with answers to 'the big questions.'
Because it all seems so clear at the time, that great surge of epiphany comes as you realise that this, this time, for the first time, you finally see it all so clearly, it's all so simple...yes....YES....!
Cut forward 12 hour, after the heated debate has long died down. You awake, cock in hand after trying to flagellate yourself to sleep in the night unsuccessfuly, with tiny dwarves panel beating your skull from the inside, and the inside of your nose feels like you fed a wire wool bag full of razor blades through it. Then it hits you, you've discovered absolutely fekkk all, except what you knew already, you despise yourself , you've wasted another 50 quid, and you wish it would all go away.....until next time.
Fekk big brother, now that's TV worth watching.

Didnt you ever watch 'night thoughts' that used to be on Channel 4 some years back.... used to consist of a number of people, writers, vicars, doctors, MPs etc and they'd discuss the problems of the day and meaning of life!... I stayed up all morning quite a bit watching it.... sort of Big Brother with people with brains..... a classic one was when they inadvertently invited Oliver Reed on it and he turned up totally pissed and proceeded to tell the rest of the guests that they were talking total bollocks, before talking about the size of his todger and trying to kiss Doris Lessing (I said he was pissed! :x ) ....funniest thing I've ever seen!...

He could box, punch, fast hands good feet decent chin, good defence. He coulda been great, but the drugs and street life ruined him.
Nunn was not a well built MW.
At 6'3" he was too tall to be a middleweight and suffered from a height DISadvantage.
He didn't have enough muscle on him to be able to really hurt anyone with a half decent chin. Only his skills allowed him to have the run that he did.

I dont think he was 6:3??.... 6 feet 2 I think, ...and he did ko Kalambay, which was/is an outstanding performance and shows some sort of dig imo.... he did tend to verge towards caution sometimes but when in the mood was impressive... definately a wasted talent imo, could have done much more...

I agree with every sentence made by jamesmcdonnell - totally sensible.
The countries in Europe with the stongest laws against drugs have the worst problem, not to mention drug-related crime. (EG UK)
It is the
prohibition of drugs that causes the majority of problems.
Junkies are ill people who need help (this is also cheaper on the taxpayer) - the last thing they need is to be thrown in teh nick (oh and BTW getting drugs in prison is easier than getting it on the street...)
------------------------------
What is actually fairly ironic is that all the people melodramatically talking baout the dangers of drugs and how they destroy lives etc....are on a boxing board.. and similar arguments can be put towards boxing - how many punchy, desperate, poor ex fighters are there???
Professional boxers live an aaveraged of 7 years less than the average life xpectancy etc etc
BUT we all love it.... FREE CHOICE is the key here...

It's a touchy subject, drugs. For me, I'm not sure you can really talk about what's right and wrong about them unless you've done them at some point in your life. I'm not saying everyone should go out and get ripped to the tits, but I honestly don't think you can understand why anyone would take a pill unless you've done one yourself. It's the nearest thing to a religious experience I've had in my life, that first pill.
There's no easy solution, but prohibition clearly hasn't worked, in regards to stopping people taking drugs in this country. At the end of the day, people want to get fucked up. Relaxing the laws totally probably isn't the answer either, because then you'll have people (like the types you see in the pub all day, every day) taking drugs all the time, and that really does fornicate you right up, both mentally and physically. But it really is no worse than succumbing to the urge to drink all the time. Anyone who wants to be out of their mind all the time, whether on crack, smack, weed, booze or whatever has problems that run deeper than whatever it is they're putting into their body.

But being out of nick hasnt done Scott any favours has it?.... some people actually pull themselves together after a spell inside, it can either make you better or worse. Arguing that drugs are ok as is boxing is a stupid argument, especially as it has been proved that fighters who abuse alcohol and drugs are far more likely to end up with dementia, Jerry Quarry, Leon Spinks and Bobby Chacon are all prime examples of this... free choice is a funny thing because often what people choose to do isnt the right thing either for themselves or those around them....

Well, what are you gonna do about it? How DO you stop people doing bad things to themselves.
I think you have to factor in the fact that none of us are going to live forever, and because of this, people are going to do bad things to themselves so long as they are fun, because they think 'sod it' let's party.
There is no answer to drug abuse, unless you want to live in a world where we all live in fear of prison if we do anything which is deemed harmful by the tsate, like in North Korea. Even draconian measures like this won't deter people, so what's the point of legislation which punishes people for harming themselves?

If a 100 meter runner smokes a large one before hand, you're more likely to see him standing on the start line, gazing after the receding backs of his fellow athletes - a confused look on his face as he calls out
