Yeah but why is Khan is role model? Like I say, when ppl see a Mundine coming out with all that crap they can say to themselves "Ooh, isn't Amir a nice boy, that's how they should all behave".

It's only in contrast to an overzealous Mundine type then Khan is good. Many would say he's boring, talks gibberish, and beats up small opponents.

Mundine takes risks, he's had defeats but he's learned a heck of a lot, hence the 2 dominant wins over world class Aussies over the last year.

Right now Khan's drawing more because of his Olympic pedigree. I've never known why an Olympic medal has so much stock in pro boxing. Can no one see through the matchmaking? Probably cos millions watched him on free TV and gushing newspaper articles keep him a brand name.

But I think he'd have to start taking risky foes.
you brits tend to be somewhat hard on your young prospects!! in most places---certainly in america---being a role model has more to do with character, both in and out of the ring!! though khan may not be providing the most ambitious career model in terms of fighting tough opposition, his very noble and patriotic gesture of carrying the union jack into his high profile forum in the boxing ring A FEW DAYS AFTER 7/7/05, the closest you've had to our 9/11!!

how can you not admire that in every sense of the word?!? :o scumbag mundine on the contrary, not only expressed sympathy and support for the serpents that pulled off 9/11, but now burns the union jack in a video!! if that doesnt painfully illustrate a lack of character (or the presence of reptilean character), what would it take for you to question this fool's character?!? in the view of most, madman mundine has clearly earned his pathetic status on the character chart right below convicted rapist mike tyson!!

even in terms of ambition in the ring, mundine was 25 at his pro debut and had to step up rapidly because lack of amateur career had him already way behind schedule!! sure, he fought for world title in 11th bout---fortunately getting iced by light-hitting ottke...but khan was only 19 starting as a pro and needs to adjust to the pro style, so has plenty of latitude in easing into the pro ranks!! his cautious, methodical approach to is geared toward gaining low-risk experience---would he be better served by the reckless pace of olympic gold medalist david reid, who stepped up too rapidly and was shot after about 20 pro bouts?!?

i believe alot of the heat directed at amir is actually well-earned hostility aimed at his promoter warren!! but even then, you have to consider the end game which is intended to garner him a big splash in america and a HOF legacy!! contrast that to the verbally reckless mundine, who will probably never even be allowed to fight in the usa, based on his incendiary pro-terrorist statements and actions!! his only appearance in much more liberal canada was 2 months BEFORE 9/11...

bottom line on the character issue...which one would you rather have dating your sister/daughter or living next door? khan or mundine?!?
Look Shoutout,
I don't like Mundine but you are being a bit over the top. Mundine said things about 9/11 that were taken out of context and shouldn't have been asked in a bloody boxing interview, Its not like he started rambling on and changed the subject to 9/11. Every person has there own opinion and not every one will agree with it. He never said the people deserved to be killed on Sep 11.

They actually did an interview last year with him and his family and he seemed like a very normal guy, He talks crap to make money and he is very sucsessful at that.

British fans like substance. Coming through adversity.

Mundine's body of work has substance. Ooh, he got caught by a shot by Ottke - an elite fighter - and was stopped, in his first 12 or so months as a pro. He fought world class foes Ottke, Soliman twice, Siaca, Kessler, Green and learned shitloads.

Now he's ready for just about anything at 160 and 168 - of that I am certain. Mundine is proof positive that losses do not ruin a fighter. Khan is manufactured albeit very talented - and admittedly barely fought as a senior amateur.

I put more stock in what happens between the ropes than inflammatory trash talk. In any case, it works for Mundine, who drew 10,000 in his last fight, and 3 fights ago helped draw the biggest audience for any boxing match in Oz.

Khan's still beating super feathers..oops, he's going to fight a real lightweight with a low KO percentage.

We aren't going to see Khan in real fights for aeons. We won't see him vs British champ Thaxton, we won't see him in with EBU king and murderous puncher Romanov - Khan said he wants Brit and EBu shots this year, and ppl want to hold him to his word!

We're going to have the same old rubbish. WBU fights, followed by WBO fights. allegedly allows us to write his stars off and my ? is, do the 1 or 2 "career defining wins" make up for a load of nonsense?

Yes, this is part of Warren, it's deeply ingrained in British boxing, prospects annihilating journeymen can be necessary but we get a bit too much of it.

Maybe Bobby Gunn can come back down to welter for a Khan catchweight?

Of course, after 14 fights we SHOULD start to see something new. But like I always say, it won't be a good fight. It was be an Argentinian spoiler or a no punch Euro import with a great chin etc etc...sure, it might work, but it's tedious.

Khans a muppet actor with Mr Warrens hand up his ass, do you think he made that gesture off his own bat? He was told to do it and he just does what hes told and doesn't question the world he lives in. At least Mundine thinks for himself.

Burning a flag is childish, but harmless, but symbolically the flag represents a system that destroyed his people pretty much. He has a right to have a problem with it.

Childish is the wrong word.

Obviously it makes a statement but a stament doesn't harm anything and burning a British flag doesn't harm anyone and I haven't heard Mundine call an attack on the British, have you? The statement is the British were wrong for the ways they treated the Abos, the method is not constructive, its more an anger of the past without a view for the future.

I don't think it is contradictory at all. The flag burning is childish but it is also making a crude statement about the treatment of Aboriginies under British rule.

Mundine knows that himself, Cathy Freeman, Dave Sands, The Ella brothers, Mal Meninga, Lionel Rose etc are afforded hero status when they put on the green and gold. Because 110,000 white Australians cheer Cathy Freeman around a track doesn't mean the people in general have
benevelont views towards the plight of the aboriginies. When Lionel Rose
became a national hero by KOing Rocky Galteieri he was still classed
as 'flora and fauna' and had no rights at all. It didn't stop a heroes welcome fit for a king and a huge procession in his honour in Sydney when he won the world bantamweight title by defeating Fighting Harda
but the ordinary Aboriginie was, has and is presently treated like shite
though the current goverments are doing at least something about it
by giving them free university education and other state benefits.

The Aborigines have the right to burn the union jack if it makes them feel better. The people who suffered under British rule such as the Aboriginies have no need to explain or justify their hate to us, why should they?

Mundine is expressing an opinion in his own country, what the hell has that got to do with you? He expressed and it is not an opinion that a lot of people disagree with that American foreign policy is brutal and there are a lot of pissed off people in the world. Lots of people would agree with him in this country and they are both christian and white .

What has Mundine burning the Union Jack in his own country got to do with him being an 'islamofascist' ? Also what business is it of yours?

As to 7/7, we're a target because wankers like Blair brown nose wankers like Bush.

Other people had things to say about 9-11 that were controversial. For instance the novellist/essayist Susan Sontag:

"Where is the acknowledgment that this was not a 'cowardly' attack on 'civilization' or 'liberty' or 'humanity' or 'the free world' but an attack on the world's self-proclaimed superpower, undertaken as a consequence of specific American alliances and actions? How many citizens are aware of the ongoing American bombing of Iraq? And if the word "cowardly" is to be used, it might be more aptly applied to those who kill from beyond the range of retaliation, high in the sky, than to those willing to die themselves in order to kill others. In the matter of courage (a morally neutral virtue): Whatever may be said of the perpetrators of Tuesday's slaughter, they were not cowards."

American foreign policy pisses off a lot of ppl. The have to be 'in there' all the time. Military psychos and crusaders dispatched to foreign exotic lands.

Mundine isn't the first person to upset ppl about 9-11.

Note -I am not advocating terrorism (a flexible term in itself, bent to fit whatever conflict/circumstance).

Absolutley correct, it is funny how all the septics soon forget that the Regan and Bush Sr bankrolled the taliban and Saddam when they were fighting their big enemies the Soviets and the Iranians but when it came to elbowing into american self interests then we all have to declare a world war on the 'forces of evil' and 'terrorism' one minute they were good guys and now they are 'terrorists' and 'dictators'

Only thing is, the majority of people here and everywhere else knew it was a pile of shite from the start. Chirac did as his people bid him to do. Unfortuneatley we are led by a lapdog of america and thus the world think we think the same and that irks me to the core.

He basically said "Fook everyone" over and over and I did not hear him dedicate the win to the aborigines or bring up this issue. All I saw was an obnoxious guy go OTT after beating a faded fighter for a vacant non-title.

If the aborigines have been through so much it seems cruel to burden them with a spokesman like Mundine who got the mic last week and sounded like a p*ssed karaoke singer addressing the audience who voted against him the previous week.

Imagine the civil rights cause being taken up by Fiddy-Cent :o
He has work to do on his PR, he isn't a nice guy and I have no doubts that
a lot of Aborigine civil rights group shudder everytime he opens his mouth but I think personally that Mundine as an Aborigine has the right to
speak on the issues regarding the treatment of his people. If the
burning of the Union Jack offends British people then they want to asks themselves why, if it offends Americans then I suggest they save their outrage for everywhere else in the world who are burning their flags as symbols of oppresion.

Funnily enough, here is the band Midnight Oil who are burning a union jack (3 min 47 sec) in their video Truganini singing the lyrics:

I hear much support for the monarchy
I see the Union Jack in flames (Let it buuuurn)
I see Namijira with dignity
and I see Truganini's in chains (chain)

Personally I just want to see him fight Calazage/Kessler/Taylor. I think hes well meaning and has some Aboriginal nationalism, and lets face it most people angryily support their country/tribe with a passion against others.
