Really? That would be great, especially if Robbie beats Seran, which I think he should. I've said it before, but I'd tip for another win to Bryant on points. Let's hope it happens and let's hope it's at least 6 rounds this time.

Interesting that if this is to take place, it will be just 3 weeks and 2 days after the Bryant-Seran fight. Kinda close, especially seeing as both Seran and Tongia are genuinely good opponents.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the east coast thing! I haven't actually seen Tongia fight since his fight with Robbie. Based on their first fight I would tip Robbie to win on points again, but if Tyronne has made a clear improvement and Robbie has not, the result could well be very different.

Thanks, I've been making regular checks and thought that was the case. I'm a little disappointed it's only going to be four rounds, but mostly just glad the fight is still on!

I'd previously said that Bryant would win TKO4, but I've now got a feeling that this one will go to the scorecards.

Also, it looks like Tongia's opponent for 10 August is Jun Geraldino (2-8-0). I can't help but notice that Tongia is going after consistently weak opponents, especially in comparison to Bryant's opponents (Tongia first, undefeated Venka, now Seran, former Indonesian champ coming off strong performances). Perhaps this is because no one with a good record wants to fight Tyrone, or maybe he wants to pad his record after losing to Bryant?

Geraldino was his initial opponent because of the cost (travel/accommodation etc), but promoter Billy thought he might not be able to fight due to his TKO loss last Friday, which inherited 28-day holiday.

I pointed out to Billy that according to BoxRec record the suspension expires on Aug 10.

I suggested Robbie as replacement.
Maybe next time.

Just got back home after watching the Green card at a mate's place.

Green won by TKO in the 3rd, three knockdowns. Seems that Griffin was definititely over-hyped and overrated at BoxRec No14. Green won the 1st easily with his jab frequently connecting hard. The second was closer, I gave it to Griffin who was more aggressive. In the 3rd, Griffin was backing Green up on the ropes and started to play it rough, but this just played into Green's hands as he had the greater power and better chin.

Robbie was really lucky, but boxed well to escape with a split decision win after being knocked down and badly shaken in the 1st round. Robbie was backing Seran onto the ropes when he walked into a short right hand and was put on his back. The rest of the round he spent in survival mode, clearly on shaky legs. The second round was close, with Robbie boxing cautiously, landing more punches, but Seran landing the more powerful ones. The third was a clear round to Robbie, he had Seran almost out on his feet and was landing at will, only to punch himself out. Seran took a barrage of punches midway through the round and was looking to go down, Robbie tried to shove him into a corner and he went down, but it was not a knockdown. The fourth was another close round, with both fighters cautious and tired. However, it was Robbie who was beating Seran to the punch and being the more active.

This fight definitely highlighted Robbies greatest weakness IMO: trusting his chin too much, being over-aggressive when his opponent is on the ropes and walking into a power punch. He did this against Tongia also, but was lucky not to go down.

Mate I was very worried for your man Bryant in the at first round, I thought he was going to get pumped after that. But all credit to him he fought back to snatch a SD. I actually had Seran winning (10-8 1st round, 10-9 2nd round) and I think Bryant was lucky that Seran had no defence and tired noticably after the second round. I also think this should prompt Robbie to stick to 154lbs...

As for the Green fight I saw it the same way as you. It looked like Giffen was just there for a pay check...

I agree with pretty much everything you said, particularly about Robbie sticking to 154lb. He's been fighting for years at 69kg (152lb) with same day weigh-ins, so he could really fight at 147lb if he wanted to, but I know that he doesn't like sweating off weight, reckons it weakens him too much.

He's got good technique, and should really have comfortably outboxed Seran, who had clearly the better power, but bugger all defense. I wonder how a 6 rounder would have gone, because both guys were clearly tired, and Robbie has never gone more than 4 rounds before.

Let's hope we can see him fighting at 154lb from now on, and hopefully travelling interstate for a few fights.

Nothing is scheduled for Robbie at the moment, but I've been looking over the scheduled fight nights in Australia for the rest of the year, and the only openings in appropriate weight classes are:

Middleweight 25 Aug 8rnds vs Israel Kani (6-1-1, 3ko) in Qld.
(no weight specified) 7 Sept 6rnds vs Tyrone Tongia (6-1-0, 2ko) in Qld.
L Middleweight 12 Oct 6rnds vs Oyewale Omotoso (1-0-0, 1ko) in Vic.

Of these, I think the first is unlikely, but the other two are a chance. There is only one more scheduled fight night in WA this year, and Robbie is not on it, so hopefully Robbie should be going interstate some time this year.

Interestingly, Robbie's trainer David Letizia is making a return to professional boxing. I'm not sure how old he is now, but his last fight was in 1996 (a TKO loss to Paul Smallman). His fight is against Brian Embersole an ex MMA fighter from USA (0-1-0) and should be at cruiserweight.

Change of plans. New Qld Champ George Livaditis will not be fronting up to fite Kani.

Tongia just won his fight by TKO3, and he now has a scheduled fight for 7 september, against another fighter with a losing record! Guess we'll have to wait longer for that rematch with Bryant.

It isn't on BoxRec yet, but Robbie Bryant is fighting in Perth on the 16th of March. His opponent is supposedly "some Indonesian". This will be his first fight since winning a split decision over Andreas Seran on the 18th of July last year.

Robbie has said to me that he hopes to fight for "a title" some time this year, and intends on fighting over east in the near future.

I think he had better start getting more active, although this recent 9 month break is due to personal reasons.

Andrew Green will be making his pro debut on the same card. Not sure whether he will be fighting at heavyweight or cruiserweight, but he is from the same gym as Robbie and was fighting men at 75kg as an amateur when he was 15 (due to lack of competition of his age). He has excellent power and handspeed, great technique and is always in good shape. Not sure how durable he is, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Robbie with some more experience should give the Aussie title a fair shake as he is always in great shape and very determined. Also the Pros should suit his style a lot better than the ama. His fight against up and coming Tongia was a beauty too.

You know a fair bit about Robbie are you a mate or do you train at the same gym.

Not sure about anyone else on the card. There are some MMA fights on the card also, Bryant and (Andrew) Green are the only names I know for sure. I train at the same gym as both guys, Robbie is an instructor. I'd like to think I can box a bit myself, but unfortunately I'm a bit like Thomas Hearns without the handspeed or boxing ability (i.e. tall, gangly, powerful welterweight with poor handspeed, crap stamina and no defense).

Hopefully the card will be on BoxRec soon.

Other fighters on the same card are Mike Hatwell and Erin McGowan.

I think the guy Robbie is fighting is actually Thai, not Indonesian, and Andrew Green will be fighting at 81kg catchweight for his debut, still not sure about his opponent though.
