Some fighters they say are better behind closed doors than in the ring, I hear Williams is a star sparing. Also hear that Herbie Hide is a realy bad Sparer cos he is too bothered about winning the sparing session than learning a tecneaque also hear that froch hits too hard.

Didn't Joe Frazier's trainer offer his sparring partners $10'000 if they could floor Joe in sparring. Without Joe knowing about this offer. Needless to say they were brutal sessions.

I think ALi used to offer money if people could KO him aswell.

John Conteh was evil in sparring, apparently. Maybe Scrap can fill us in. Charlie Nash pasted a young Barry McGuigan in the gym. Hagler had his rib busted sparring Bobby Watts in early 1982. The Finnegans and the Quarrys did more damage to each other in sparring than any of their opponents. Don King's first ever fighter, Jeff "Candy Slim" Merritt, shattered the jaw of Earnie Shavers in sparring in the summer of 1973.
Incidentally, the man who knocked down Leonard before Hagler was Quincy Taylor.

Again not really just a rumour but didn't Steve Collins get KO's sparring towards the end? I think this was what convinced him to quit.

Its funny Collins is one of those fighters its difficult to even imagine being sparked.

Tatevosyan story is true - He caught Kessler on his dodgy rib and he went down like a ton of bricks in front of the press.

The trainer ushered them out and explained what had occured and as they are pro-kessler they understood it was 'one of those things' and that was that.

Also heard that Eric Teymour bashed Kessler and put him down in Sparring too.

The biggest RUMOUR and it's only a rumour i add, is that if Calzaghe wins he will fight Clinton Woods for the Light Heavy IBF belt before Hopkins...

Don't think he got sparked in training, but had something like a blackout. or at least was feeling funny afterwards.
May well have just been the excuse for not taking the JC fight

I remember a recent one claiming that Alex Arthur handled Manny Pacquioa during his stint at Freddie Roach's gym. If this was just to say he coped I don't know.

I remember Collins APPARENTLY got Ko'd by Eastman a few weeks before the scheduled calzaghe fight. Collins then pulled out.

Erik didn't drop him but certainly was very comfortable with sparring Kessler. Erik or Sergey don't go out to hurt opponents, the Sergey KO was an accident I am sure.

Erik has sparred many top guys (kessler, Beyer, Erdei, Veit, Eastman, Brewer) and always said the hardest guy to spar with is Carl Froch.

Not saying he is better or worse than other guys but he is a handful in sparring :-)

khan has been whoopin all the northwest lads his weight so is sparring the lightmiddle/middles - and payin for the privledge......... not in pain, but in cash cause he is a bit to good for them as well

jamie moore was saying he's decked everyone at his gym in sparring with bodyshots.

The Collins... Collins claimed he blackout whilst in the middle of sparring (no punches)... rumours are the Eastman caused the blackout.

It was prior to Collins comeback that never happend.... Post Calzaghe vs Eubank. Collins was lined up to appear on an SN bill and then face Calzaghe.

Eastman is also heavily rumoured to have one punched KO'd Herol Bomber Graham when Herol was launching his comeback. The comeback which would eventually lead to a career best performance (IMO) vs Chris Johnston... he was masterful that night, against the odds. The Eastman punch was part of the reason (I am sure) why Glyn Rhodes was so dead nots against Graham returning.

Who was the sparring partner that final retired Graham? He was scheduled to Dean Francis after the Brewer fight - but retired after suffering from a detatched retina in sparring. His scheduled opponent might have been David Starie. I know at one stage he was slated to fight both.

Not a rumour because I saw it myself: Kessler annihilated (no, not too strong here) Bika when they fought. To the extent that Bika stopped their planned sparring and left.

Kessler looked like shit sparring with Soliman and Taymour. I guess he felt Bika was more of a real treat in terms of being a future potential opponent, so he wanted to show him the reality of things, whereas he never really bothered with showing the others anything other than practizing moves and stuff. I think he was boxing more for real vs. Bika - and Bika didn't like it.

However, I have also heard Temour say that Froch is the hardest he has sparred with.

Might be true with the other lads he spars. But not with Anthony Crolla they have 50 50 spars. Khan is quality though one of the best prospects I have ever seen.

Anyone mentioned Vitali being dropped a few times prior to his bout with Rahman? Its definatelyo nly a rumour

Team McCline also suggested Klitschko had been getting pushed around in sparring before withdrawing with his back.
