Most of us would have loved the opportunity to get out to Vegas and be as close as that to one of the participants.

Hats off to Spud for getting out there.
It would appear that this Spud character became an unscheduled inadvertent participant down the bill at the Vegas sideshow in his own right, but not in a good way.

I must say I haven't a clue who this guy is and what he's all about but he seems to have pissed off a lot of people on this forum. One question I have to ask is how does he manage to keep himself in on the boxing periphery (especially part of Hatton's entourage or whatever it was) when it seems he should have been blackballed by now?
The guy has a history with a lot of poster on many forums. I've never met him in person only from his postings on several boxing forum. Some of these posters have had there posts edited and even been banned from sites due too Spud using his mod powers. All sounds like sour grapes too me. You know who i mean :-?

Though I have come in late on this one. I like everyone else has had a sly laugh at spud woollatt's expense as the back of his bald head bobs up and down in front of a BBC camera crew as a slightly bemused Ricky Hatton
looks on. But is Spud Woollatt to blame?

In a debate about nature vs nuture, one can argue that if you own the swan vesta factory and your foreman employs a known arsonist and the next night 'oh no... the factory is on fire, dial 999' Who are you going to set the burly security guy on? the arsonist or the foreman who hired the known arsonist?

Like the arsonist, it is in Spud Woollatts nature, his DNA, his make up and his background to be a sly chancer and loud, attention seeking fool. Its not like he has hidden his light under a bushel for all these years while he has slimly worked his way into the boxing world. So quel suprise that he starts to act up in front of a camera. Does anyone honestly think that a right hander from Paul King is going to stop Spud Woollatt from the next photo/tv opportunity? A right hander from a prime Earnie Shavers wouldn't stop spud from getting in on the limelight. a sore jaw goes away but the DNA imprint of your character is there for life.

What really made me think was the comments from some of the patrons on here about spuds enviable position. Is spud really in an enviable position? Like the boxing writing, from a very superficial standpoint it looks that way but lets inspect his position further.

What is spuds position in Vegas? a gofer if noting else. Now Ricky Hatton
comes across as a nice feller but between Ricky and spud there will be a glut of arseholes who would treat the likes of spud (and us) like shit on their shoe such as PR men PA girls, lawyers, sponsors and Hattons close entraouge which might include less savoury family memebers and God forbid, the Rooneys and Rio Ferdinand and all the other tosspot footballers and half celebrities who have attactched themselves to the Hatton bandwagon and are as parasitic as the potato man himself! Does anyone think for one moment that the above hasn't treated the potato man as a worthless parasitic turd? They think they are better than the potato man but they aren't really. They are all bathing in the reflcted glory, living off the talent and the hard work of one very honest and decent bloke.

Now thats a lot of arse to kiss, people who if not for his boxing skill wouldn't give Ricky Hatton the time of day either. And Spud's employment with FA is on the whims of a lot of people.

Personally, I like to keep boxing at a distance. I like to go on my own terms, I wouldn't thank you to take over spuds position for all the Vegas trips in the world. I'd rather pay my money, have my own opinion on what I have seen and keep my pride and my self worth intact. I'd rather live in a tent on singleton park and sell the big issue than kiss the arse of the self important wankers who surround themselves Ricky Hatton

I'm no fan of Spuds, but maybe this once he is more the sinned against than sinner.

This is all very amusing of course but at least Mr Paul King showed restraint & stopped short of the treatment that Spud's Sin City lookalike got from Bruce Willis (twice).

Oliver you don't waste anytime going from friend too foe with old pal Spud.
As for name dropping i've read your posts on other boards and your not much better. Are you jealous of Spud getting paid to watch and attend bouts? You are aren't you :TU:
Adleast Spud with all his faults ran some good prediction leagues
Regarding going from friend to foe with Spud...

I had never heard of him before I joined the UKBP writing team. He evidently had "history" with a lot of people, but as far as I was concerned, he was a clean slate. I judge people based on my own experiences with them, not on what people tell me. Therefore, I ignored those who slagged him off, preferring to make up my own mind.

As I watched his interaction with certain other people, I began to realise why they had a problem with him. He would insist it was they who had the problem, not he, but when it's 10 against one, should you believe the 10 or the one?

And then, inevitably, there were fall-outs between he and I. These were ALL due to him being paranoid and thinking certain things I said were "digs" against him, when they were not. He certainly said a lot worse to me, and was apparently serious, whereas anything I could have been accused of was strictly within the realms of banter. Let's just say anybody who tells people to "fornicate off" left, right and centre, and questions their professionalism simply because they have a different opinion to him, has no right to take umbrage to what is obviously a bit of pally ribbing about his name-dropping.

I bent over backwards to remain friendly with Spud, because he was an integral part of a site I was very fond of and enjoyed working with, but at the same time it was apparent he was bending over backwards to make enemies with everybody, including me. He would even harm the site to get at people. Prime example: I was covering a fight for UKBP and Ben had a day off, so Spud had publishing duties. I filed the report via email to Spud, and hours later, it still hadn't been published. He was refusing to publish my work as a form of "revenge" for some perceived slight against him, despite this pettyness harming the timeliness of the site.

When everything wents tits up at UKBP - helped in no small terms by a typically public and foul-mouthed rant against a powerful organisation - I emailed him to say I was sorry UKBP had failed and that I wished him all the best in whatever he did next, and that there were no hard feelings. Naturally, he didn't have the courtesy to reply.

Now, as for namedropping, the only way I could be accused of this is due to my prior work for Audley Harrison, but if I have ever mentioned my association with him, it has been strictly in context of a thread that somebody else has started. You certainly wouldn't catch me starting threads simply to let people know I was pictured in FHM, or I had been filmed in a documentary, etc etc. I may also have mentioned interviewing or meeting certain boxers, but again, only in context, and I wouldn't pretend I had any greater involvement with anybody except Audley beyond that of a fan or a journalist.

If name-dropping was Spud's only fault, then I wouldn't care, but it's one of many, and I'm more than happy to give this latest incident the attention he would seek for any other.

Just to add... I've been aware of Spud since the Seconds Out days, then the ESB days.. Even though I'd never previously met him he did me a favour with some boxing tickets on the one occasion I asked so I can't slag the guy off but I can fully appreciate how he will rub people up the wrong way with his somewhat abrasive manner....
