The Olympic Trials capped off a much decorated amateur career for Thurman which included winning the PAL National Championships in 1996
Someone didn't proof read. :o

I hope Keith will do well in the pros. He definitely hits hard and has a style the fans should like. He's also one of the nice people in boxing. He's really going to have to do something with his hair, though. Hitting an opponent in the eye with a swinging ponytail isn't a normal boxing technique.

I wish Keith the best of luck!!!

You seen Lennox Lewis' hair lately, Mel? Just tie it back and put a hairband on, he'll be ok. Although seeing someone get smacked in the face by a ponytail would be pretty funny.

Nah, Kolya - I don't pay much, if any, attention to pro boxers - unless I know them. :D Keith has long, bushy hair that used to come out of the top of his headgear all the time and flop around. He said he isn't going to cut it when he turns pro, either.

Thurman will be an exciting pro. His bout against Hatley was amazing.

Kolya - saw Lennox on HBO last night. He has tons of braids. Thurman hasn't started braiding all his hair. Braids would be less safe than a pony tail, IMO. :-?

If Jacobs stays focused and trains hard, he will do very well.

He's fighting again on November 29th at a local venue (Irvine Marriott) and hubby and I will be there. Will be interesting to see how he looks as a pro.

Hate to sound stupid (getting old sucks!) - who is Danny O'Connor?

I train Daniel O'Connor. He is the alternate on the Olympic team, and last time I checked his next fight is in England at the end of the month, and Dargan surely isn't an English fighter. People need to stop starting stupid rumors.

My apologies, Davetko - I was in Houston, too! There are no alternates on the Olympic team - if Javier doesn't make it, Danny will not take his place - unless Javier is injured prior to qualifying. Is Danny in Colorado Springs?

You should know by now that boxing, amateur and pro, revolves around rumors. Would be nice, however, if people checked them out before passing them on.

Karl Dargan v. Mel Ley is schedule for next week. Oops they found out Mel is actually Melanie so the fight is off. Mel now has to reschedule her pro debut. This is a good rumor isn't it. :box:

Nah - the problem was weight. There was no way I could have made 141 by next week without eating constantly, so I turned it down.

In all the years I've known him, I don't think Dynamite ever feared me. Anytime he became threatening, I would hide behind Brother Richardson and he couldn't find me.

I don't think coach Dave is a retard and would suppose he has a better idea of when his boxer is competing than Edwin Rodriguez. If Danny Garcia declined the "partner" status, this makes Danny O'Conner the "partner" at that weight class.

It doesn't hurt to be nice and not call people names. :o

Please learn how to spell and speak intelligently before you respond to a post, it will make everyone's life alot easier. Daniel O'Connor is an alternate or partner on the US Team. He earned that spot by coming in 3rd place at the boxoffs, as Garcia was removed from the program. He is not fighting professionally, nor against Dargan unless its at the US Championships or Golden Gloves.

Danny Garcia may have been one of the 3 boxers kicked out of the Olympic training camp. All 3 were alternates.

Naazim is a big guy. Speaking of Naazim - does anyone know how he is doing. I know he suffered a stroke earlier this year.

Unless he's had another, Dynamite told me at last year's PAL that Naazim had a heart attack before that and was doing well. This was backed up by one of the officials from their area who was at this year's PAL. I imagine he has had to slow down considerably.
