If Khan could last 8 rounds against Katsidis it would give him a bit of confidence and he'll learn a lot.

He's too good to be pissing around shot boxer's like Earl and boxer's who are sheer useless in Limond and Lawton.

He has the bit between the teeth so why not use that to your advantage and face someone decent and see how good you really are?

Well I shall defer to your more exhaustive knowledge on this occasion, I know you're a big fan of Mugabi's. I never saw many of his early fights myself, nor had any knowledge of his amateur career at the time either.

I think some fighters are successful and near their peak early, and others later. Khan is a fast learner, and will probably end up being a better all around fighter than Mugabi was, if he keeps on learning.

Of course, we need to see Khan step it up, but I was very encouraged by the progress between the last fight and this one. He seems to have taken his flaws on board and adapted to them well.

To be fair to Khan, he has had a very short amateur career, and so is doing a lot of the learning that Mugabi did as an amateur as a professional. We've yet to see the best of Khan, and the jury remains out until he fights a fighter in the top 20 in the world in his division, but the signs are encouraging.

I don't think there is much point in comparing Mugabi and Khan, they are totally different fighters, Mugabi had world class power from day one, he was one of the biggest punchers P4P of his era.

Earl and Thaxton - YES

Ramoanov - WHY? No point hes 1 of the best in the world without a world title. Put Khan in with Juan Diaz who is probably less of a threat than Ramanov.

Khan matches up nicely with Juan Diaz and they should look to make that fight

He has the potential to be great, but right now he is just good, IMO. He's not a Roy Jones or a Mayweather, a fighter who doesn't take much damage.... he should not be rushed in to big dangerous fights IMO if we want to preserve him as a prospect

How do we know Earl is shot exactly? He hasn't fought since Katsidis, so there's no way of knowing as yet.

I think Earl's management should have gotten him a confidence builder before fighting Khan, it strikes me as a bit of a 'shit or bust' strategy. Either Earl wins, or his careers on the skids. At 29, he doesn't have a lot of time to rebuild if he loses to Khan here.

I am not saying put him in those fights for himself right now. A defeat it what he need IMO and he's better to lose against someone like Katsidis or Ramonov rather than being caught by someone useless like he did against Limond - he needs to learn and a defeat is what is needed.

This should be an excellent payday though and where is there for Earl to go anyway?

A loss to Khan wouldnt be bad because Khans seen as a big thing. If he wins theres a potential rematch and bigger fights. Im sure he relished the opportunity of really testing Khan and maybe making his experience count

theres been plenty of fighters who became technically competent and used to getting hit, without a loss

No it isnt, he seemed to learn allot from the Limmond fight.

But I can seem him getting hit by surprise like he did against Limond. He needs to learn to focus and a defeat could help him do that - or it could go the other way.

Well put James, even though i doubt Khan will ever be as good a fighter as John. A better liver, without doubt. Fair enough Mugabi had 200 amatuer fights and was never stopped. Khan has talent, but he should be sparking these guys.

good posts on here about khans improvement since last time out and i agree with all who were encouraged by tonights showing. lawton wasnt going to be even as good as limond and yes amir still dangles carrots for opponents with good right hands but he was so much better tonight than against willie for the reasons already stated. and he didnt piss anyone off with a load of shite in the post fight interview.

Yeah big difference would be that while Mugabi was a huge puncher, his chin was also more than good, until Hagler finally smashed it.

And though ITV have to dress it up as "Khan survived a heavy knockdown so proved he has the desire to go all the way etc", they are whistling past the grave yard a bit, because the glaring fact is that Khan was out on his feet against someone who doesn't hit very hard, compared to the type of fighters he's going to have to step up against soon.

Earl will be in with a good shout you'd think, for instance.

But Khan's own power, plus that chin, are going to make for some good viewing once Frank is forced to take the breaks off. Which I think Family Khan are going to force him to do pretty soon.

Lawton looked like he didn't come to win.

He was covered up at the stoppage but he didn't throw much back I guess.

I think Khan will do well but I want him to lose for some reason.

He'll beat Thaxton but not sure about Earl.
