Top contenders can all beat each other. It's up to champions to face lots of top contenders. Shit, at least we've had no shortage of champion v champion over the last year - Joe v lacy, Kessler v Beyer, Joe v Kessler.

Your sides fine, you do go a bit over the top though around fight time. I was a Calazage fan in the early days the I used to dislike Calazage pre-Lacy for around 2years, i was tired of his hometown behaviour.

A major issue, because of the whole WBO thing where he fought about 2 guys who were mandatories or top contenders: it just smells of an incestuous relation between promoter and sanctioning body. I'd say Calzaghe makes me go overboard. Indeed, his career does seem to swing from 1 extreme to the other when we all prefer more balance.

I just don't buy it that now he has another big fight, he'll be masterful. He was still hitting Lacy with cuffs and it may not work vs a Kessler-type long boxer with poise.

I saw the fight myself in Manchester and before it I had it in my head Calzaghe would make him pay, but very few saw it like that and everyone who I was with, had Lacy knocking Calzaghe out!

Well, that may be true in what Warren and his match maker thought, but most other people did not see that and they must be smart men for matching Lacy up and fair play to them for Joe looked amazing that night.

Wharton was a great battle horse thats for sure, would you put Wharton on par with Lacy had they been around at the same time?

It could say Warren believes In Joe but the majority went for Lacy and then changed their standards when he was outclassed.

What a load of bollocks!! There is no sore point with him, Joe has thousands of British fans and stop trying to re-write history! Joe was not hitting Lacy wioth cuffs! He smashed him consistantly and inncessantly with accurate shots. Joe is a class above the rest, hence why he is world champion. Fights have been difficult to make, Hopkins didnt want any of it... but now he has a chance to unify, which I believe he will - he is just too good, too fast and too ferocious.

Quite right. Cuffing and slapping would not have held a powerhouse like Lacy off for 5 minutes, let alone 36.

He was throwing the shots from every angle and a lot were veyr incorrect, thrown from the elbows. He did it with such energy and drive, and in combos that he beat the guy off him in every trade off.

British fans are very critical, sometimes brutally honest, sometimes setting inappropriate standards which annoy even me.

Look, if we all said Joe was unbeatable, with a flawless body of work etc then we'd be telling porky pies, wouldn't we?

Can you pull out a list of all the mandatories and WBO #1's Calzaghe fought? I can think of two: Mkrtchian and Veit (twice I believe). Inkin was due a shot and the WBO said Joe didn't have to fight him! They upgraded him to a "Super Kong" champion or something. 3 fights out of about 20, does that not look all wrong to you?

If Joe wins tonight he can go all Hopkins and justify it with "I did it my way." We'll all give him credit for winning 2 unifications but if you point out the good, you have to point out the bad.

I know some fights slipped by due to bad luck (Hopkins, Francis, Collins) and to other guys outpricing. Bad luck but surely it means you don't wait until defense #18 and #21 for the big ones? His punching was fluid and blurring but quite short and incorrect. I don't think those "flickers" will mean as much vs a Kessler.

Maybe Cal and kess will give a bigger argument than the ones that have been raging on here!


I would say that Warren was rewriting history when he said about Roy Jones not wanting the fight and about the steroid thing in Florida being why a fight didn't need making on US soil. That to me is revisionism taken a bit far.

Tuned in last night and caught site of Lacy, face lumped up and bruised after 4 or 5 rounds. When Joe's hands are good and he gets full leverage, he punches as hard as anyone at 168. Just ask Chris Eubank.

Plus that shot he put Byron Mitchell over with would have floored just about anyone.

Great win that, but he rode his luck a little when exchanging bombs with Mitchell, can't get too careless tonight.

Kessler looked ice cool at the weigh in, but as the hour approaches, how are his nerves holding up?
