Hopkins has got a chip on his shoulder, so it's hardly unexpected to hear this drivel.
I'm really surprised that Hopkins is any kind of draw right now because his fights are tepid and his pre fight hype has Mayweather-level transparency.
Let's face it, he's a world class dickhead. He's a paranoid, strange person, and he's a dishonest, lying fool as well (the Lou DiBella/Maxboxing episode where he ended up getting sued by DiBella).

It doesn't matter who comes out with the racist crap, it isn't acceptable, however in the US - it seems racist crap is still an acceptable veichle to sell a fight.
I understand where Josh fg is coming from, black people are generally the victim of racism in so many forms and have been historically opressed, however that for me makes it more irksome that Hopkins of all people - who will have experienced racism in his upbringing, has to play the race card at all to sell the fight.
Good post Carlos.

Hopkins with that comment is not only a hypocrite, but a racist too.
Racism shouldn't be tolerated in any form, but this will be quickly brushed under the carpet, because it isn't fashionable for white people to be victims of racism.

Always been a big B-Hop fan, but his comment to Calzaghe in Vegas that he'd "never lose to a white man" is poor, poor form.
The reaction to date has been somewhat muted... can you imagine if it had been the other way round and Calzaghe had "done a Minter"? Suspect the 'fall-out' would have been far greater somehow

Good spot, Deserter. Completely agree. I swear, if Calzaghe had done the equivalent he be scratched from the sports personality charade.
What a prize ringpiece.

Hopkins is delluded. If the fight happens he's going to get whooped by a honky alright! Also cannot believe he tried to play down Calzaghe's win over Kessler and he's coming off an ugly win over King Krispy Kreme!

I am black and I think Hopkins' remarks were ridiculous. They do not HELP the situation in any way.
Similar to Ian Wright being on record as saying to a traffic warden "why not fornicate off back to your own country"...
What a fornicating idiot.

I dont care what colour a person is, black, brown, yellow, white, green or blue, but to think that we should punish ourselves for what our ancestors did is just plain stupidity and plays into the hands of extremists who arent happy with equality and are looking for something more than that.
As for Hopkins, what he said was racist plain and simple, what if Calzaghe had said the opposite to Hopkins?... he would never have heard the last of it.
As for the hand wringing liberals going on about events 100+ years ago I suggest you concentrate more on what is going on in certain African countries now....

Good post Silkov. I agree with it.
I think this thread should be locked tbh. Hopkins took it too far but threads like these can descend into the foolish if not monitored.

It was Dela Hoya saying it to Trinidad, and it was his Minter moment. I believe he said that black fighters couldn't take it to the belly.
Anyway, Hopkins lost the plot for a moment. MAybe that reflects his true feelings, that is he believes in the fighting superiority of the black man. Perhaps there are many old school black fighters -- ones that grew up before the hispanic onslaught and the European resurgence -- feel the same way. I suspect that may be so.
Whatever, it's unacceptable. Completely unacceptable. It's not much better than Dempsey drawing the color line, and certainly on a par with Minter's comments.
Expect a hard hitting Thomas Hauser piece any day now.

I'm not one for all this political correctness BS. Hopkins is right he has never lost to a white man. Who gives a shite. I am white and was certainly not offended. Its the PC brigade that fuels this fire.
Calzaghe should have just slapped him in the mouth. Actions speak louder than words and that would have humiliated Hopkins. Hope this fight happens as Joe will handle Bernard, quite easily.

Yep, its a one way thing, I think we all know that - Black man says it we laugh it off, white man says it then its a racist comment - WTF has skin tone got to do with anything - Complete nonsense and ranks alongside some of the shit from Mayweathers huge gob - Best ignored.

No, you're wrong. It's not a case of politial corretness, it's about stamping out racism. Racism is the view that another person or group is inferior because of their race. Not only in an overall sense, but perhaps at one thing. The idea that black men don't make good quarterbacks or accountants, or white people can't box or play basketball.
It's racism all the same and whether it comes from a white man, a black man or an Asian, it's still wrong.

You've miss-quoted the Hopkins statement. You've made it sound like he was just stating a fact, whereas infact what he said was that he would NEVER lose to a white guy, not he HAS never lost. Different connotations.

Yep, its a one way thing, I think we all know that - Black man says it we laugh it off, white man says it then its a racist comment -
'White man' (or the more ignorant elements of the species) has been making ignorant, racist comments about people of colour for over 300 years. When has a black man had the stage to make these kind of stupid, ridiculous comment? 40 years? Not really comparable.
WTF has skin tone got to do with anything - Complete nonsense and ranks alongside some of the shit from Mayweathers huge gob - Best ignored.
I agree, Hopkins is a cretin and a disgrace to his profession.

I think Carlos is quite right. Its not just white men who have made comments like that they have also exploited and oppressed the black community. In this country and the US black people get harsher sentences than do white people.
However as you say its also a compleetly bone hedded moronic thing to say.

It's as racist a remark as Calzaghe saying he wouldn't let no black bloke beat him. I think if Joe'd said that we'd have been very disappointed.
Totally lost my respect for B-Hop after that. He's played the race card, which is plain stupid. Big-mouthed idiot.
Not calling him a racist, because he's been talking up Ricky Hatton's chances against Mayweather, but it was what I would term a racist comment, and he should apologise to Calzaghe if he has the decency. Bet he'd have been thrown out of Big Brother if he'd have come out with that.

What Hopkins actually said doesn't bother me in the least.
However, what does bother me is that - without question - if Calzaghe had said "I'd never let a black man beat me" he's be tagged as some kind of sickening racist and you'd never hear the end of it.
Hopkins comments will be forgotton by tomorrow....

In truth Hopkins had said some bollox over the years. There was a thing on boxingranks, where Hopkins answered some fan questions. 1 guy said something about his wife not being submissive enough and Hops pretty much hinted that he should rape her, strip her down and shove it in the old bird.
there was also the "fvck the american cancer society" outrage, after ring mag wouldn't recognise Bernard as champ following the controversial Taylor fight (1st I believe) and the mag broached the subject of doing some kind of work for the charity/research company.
after seeing a Brit lose in a big fight atmosphere I'd like to see Calzaghe go over and make a big statement.
