With regard to Ricky or any fighter not owing his fans anything, I have to disagree - Without the fans you fight in Doncaster but with them you fight in Vegas - Ricky is a fighter who has become rich because of his huge talent and popularity and as a result it has gained him a huge army of fans - It doesnt matter whether you are a boxer or a pop singer, if you are good at what you do your fans will spend their hard earned cash on you and make you rich - Take the piss offering them rubbish fights or rubbish music and they will pull away - Anyone in the public spotlight has to respect those who follow them or risk their rejection - The loyal fans do therefore deserve some acknowledgment and ignoring them can be disasterous - Witter through his arrogance has few fans here never mind America where you would be hard pushed to find even one - So fans do matter and if anyone wants to be successful they have to please the fans in every way they can - Ricky has done a pretty good job up to now in doing that - Even though he lost, he still gained a lot of fans in America and people here are still standing by him - Ricky doesnt have too many options about who he fights next and Witter is the legitimate LW champion - Its the fight the fans want and Ricky must be more than aware of that - Ricky doesnt need the money anymore so whatever he would make in a fight against Witter shouldnt be a problem - He isnt a welterweight thats been proven, but what he does need to do is prove he is the best at LW by beating Witter in particular and Rees, Torres or Malinaggi afterwards - He will not get total respect unless he gives in and fights Witter - If he does turn the fight down completely the arguement about who would beat who will still be waged many years after they have both retired - Mayweather gave Ricky the big payday so why doesnt he give the same chance to Witter - By beating Witter he shuts him up and us also and gains the most recognized belt - He can then go on and clean up and claim to be the best LW of all time and retire, and that will be his legacy.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:Some people on here will recognize me as a bloke who from time to time takes a pop at Matthew Hatton for various reasons far too irritating to go into right now.

If you wanna watch, then watch.......and if you don't wanna watch, then don't. That's your decision. Take it or leave it. But at the end of the day it's not your mug getting "check-hooked" or walloped for that matter.
So just cos you didn't think this fight or that opponent was any good it doesn't mean you are OWED anything by any of these guys, in much the same way that you don't OWE them anything.

i don't know what would motivate RH to get fighting fit and drop the extra 7 pounds all over to fight a guy who every time he thinks of he knows is making him rich........Look, Witter must already be worth a bob or two and will make more whoever he fights next, it's not like Hatton would be pulling him above the bread line.
Hatton hasn't got much to gain by boxing Witter as many fans will always believe he would have beaten Witter anyway. I was one once, but I used to find Witter arrogant and it was never with any sort of confidence that I would predict a Hatton win.
But now however I'm more convinced than ever that it's RH that doesn't want to know about Witter. Hatton would hustle and rush in whilst making a "concerted effort" not to do just that and I reckon Witter would have him out of there Harris style anywhere between 4 and 9.
Then Witter would be sitting very pretty. Hatton would immediately be looking at retirement.
As regards your comments above I still say , as somebody else alluded to in this thread - the "contract" you have with your fighter of choice starts and ends between you purchasing your ticket and the show coming to a close.
Anyone that "wants more" just isn't properly versed in the traumas that can occur in boxing.......i.e. concussions, hospitilization, serious injury or death. It's not a tickling contest you know

Okay - lets concede regardless of which corner you are in - Witter/Hatton is going to be a lot more closer or certainly bloody intriguing than a lot of people think.
To combat Hatton - you need the confidence of a Mayweather, the strength, and speed of punch too etc etc - Has Witter got all of those?
And as for stating Witter would have Hatton out of there possibly as quick as he did Harris - please get real - Hatton is certainly a better fighter than Harris.

Criticially, he doesn't have the stamina of Mayweather also.
I really can only see one winner of this fight at 140.... actually give Witter more of a chance if it was at 147.
