I just re-watched Moorer v Cooper.

Great tough fight.

Cooper can often be an exciting ingredient to ensure a slugfest
regardless of how short it may last.

I take the list seriously....and will be looking to view these fights. Some for the first (some for the umpteenth) time, if/when I can find them. Thanks for taking the time to compile it.

Has anyone heard of any "discoverys" lately? By that I mean fights that have been discovered on film in the last year or so that are from the early camera era? Seems like every year a new discovery or two is made.

Anyone have a complete list of early fights known to be available to be viewed? Love to see the unabridged version along with the info on how to obtain them.

You don't list a fight as your favourite slugfest if you haven't seen it. Unless, of course, you are listing it purely for the purpose of posing as a boxing expert.

Hearing of a fight is good enough to list it as one of your favourites, for some. To the Gran's of the world, that is, "boxing."

Gran, don't try to pull one over on me, unless you're willing to put some effort into it. The question was plainly, "Your Favourite Slugfests" & since it is as clear as day you only listed (many) of the fights you did to make an effort to impress or assert your self-declared role as resident boxing historian, I called your post precisely for what it was.

Your response was an effort to slightly alter the question, & thus you are now asking me to explain why certain fights we haven't seen weren't, "Great Slugfests" when that was never the question. As I said initially, if you're not willing to put in the effort, don't try for the hustle. You are fooling no one. How many of your favourite movies are you yet to see, Gran?

One more thing --- Just my two cents, but you clearly enjoy posting here, & the subsequent interactions with other members, more than you let on. If you were as offended or outraged as you often act, you wouldn't stick around. It would be nice to see you --- if only once in a while --- drop the pretense of disliking us all, & concede that secretly you love it. Just once in a while.

No one is "alright" in granny's book...we are all loved and cherished.

Now I may disagree with you Goodnight, granberry and I may be older than some here, though I am nowhere as old as granny. But I can name some of my favorite fights via the radio. I know that may seem a bit odd to claim a favorite fight via a radio broadcast but there was this announcer that was so good at being transparent with his calls and of course you could hear the crowd and some of the ring action that you felt you got the gist. By the time I would see the "movietone" or the 8mm version I already had it as a favorite. So I'm not sure seeing is the only way to inculcate a fight into your sensibilities. Then the live paid theatre versions and television arrived which marked the beginning of the modern age of boxing appreciation.

Now as for granberry, back in his day he would recieve the fight cliff notes via a stone tablet and get very excited! And though there are no radio or video accounts of fights like GRONK vs STONEBANGER II OR CAVEDWELLER VS JUNGLE WILDMAN which of course were both fought in 1200 BC I"m sure he lists those among his favorites as well. And rightfully so. Stone tablets, word of mouth, cans on a string, newspaper and magazine accounts, radio, theatre and TV and video are all legitimate sources of info on fights.

Does Gran have radio broadcasts of the fights? Full-length film? Was he present for the fights?

Gran lists many of the fights he does for any reason but they are his favourites, & I assume he thinks we don't know that. Some of the fights listed are purely to make him look good. To disagree, you have to assume Gran hasn't seen a single worthy scrap anytime post-70's, or at the very least post-90's. Seem plausible?

I listed some of the same fights he did in the, "Greatest Performances That Ended In Defeat" thread. I didn't pre-face them by saying, "Of course no one here has heard of..." because I'm not a self-aggrandised fountain of knowledge. Snell, & Dagosd & a number of other knowledgeable members do it all without the manufactured exasperation. This is all one thing, but he clearly enjoys it all, in secret. well granberr's way's are the way's of the ancient elder's and all we can really do, is to sit back and ponder in awe of what it must have been like before toilets, electricty, motor cars and the like. A man had to carry his own corn cob and walk from Philly to NY just to see a good fight.

He's paid his dues with interest....it's best if we just sit 'round the cyber campfire and listen to the wise man without a lot of comment and commotion. The incongruent rabble (such as ourselves) can disturb the old sage and may cause us to miss a bit of wisdom along the way.
