I think Harry would be mad to go to Newcastle, nothing will change for the better at the club till the owner and the fans have the sense to realise that success needs stability, to take in a manager and get rid of him after just a season or so is simply stupid, it takes years for a manager to build a successful club, look at Manchester United and Arsenal... these clubs didnt become 'big' over night, it took time and development and a manager being given the time to develop his team.
Unfortunately Newcastle fans seem to still believe in father Christmas and magic... and going from also rans to triple champions in a single season....

How has he stabilised things by getting rid of Allardyce at this point of the season??.... and what about the 'full support' that he promised Sam just a few days ago??. The guy is a turnip, he might have money but when it comes to running a club he hasnt got a clue...

when i was a cab driver i used to take big ray, one of the top knobs at canary wharf, to the local station after work where he'd make his way to the airport to catch newcastle - at home - against various teams.
big fat fella, about 38, ugly missus. never tipped. no one liked taking him.

I never said HE HAD stabilised things, I said he was looking to. The club was rotten form thecore when he came in, and that was down to the previous board we had. No surprise Ashley got rid of the lot when he tookover! He didnt want allardyce either, it wasnt his manager.
Terry, why should I be grateful if Harry Redknap comes to us? Yeah, he's done well at Pompey, but he did nothing at Southampton when he showed his loyalty by going down the road there. Also, exactly how different is he to allardyce? Another good manager who has shown potential at a "lesser" club with little money / show string budget. Personally I want a manager who's managed a big club, managed big players and managed a big budget. Will I get one, nah I doubt it.
8th(!!) manager to go this season, so its not only up in the North East where football is fast becoming a results business.

Well if he's looking to stabilise things then he's going a funny way about it!... giving Allardyce the heave ho at this point of the season is just silly... especially as no definate replacement seems ready. Will Newcastle really be better off with the stand in than with Sam?... I think not!. What will the fans views be of Ashely if Newcastle are out of the FA cup by this time next week??. Sam should have been given more time to settle the team, he inherited a carwreck when he took over and to expect him to turn everything rosy in just 8 months is naive in the extreme....
And few clubs can boast of being on their 7th manager in about ten years as Newcastle can!...

Actually Silkov - there is a decent chance that they will do better temporarily... just like under Roeder for the rest of the season and even Souness for the first month or so.
Honeymoon period often comes - but the Newcastle fans and board have got to take this into account before making a decision. Even Sam had a Honeymoon period.

Silkov, I think the key here is Allardyce wasnt Ashleys man, the final part of the old reigieme has now gone. Thats where the stabilisation of the club comes from. Do I agree with the sacking, no, I'd like to have seen him have another 18 months. But, whats done is done. The imperative thing for the club now is to get the right man in.
Stu - I doubt there will be a honeymoon period under Pearson, not withh Man U away, Stoke home (bannana skin) and Arsenal away all coming up in the next 3 weeks!! We've got Bolton at home too, which should be 3 points.

I think the problem is most managers with big club pedigree won't touch it with a bargepole.

Money talks, and we'd be probably the 4th or 5th biggest paying club in the country. Why wouldnt a manager with pedigree touch it with a bargepole? Big money, big transfer kitty, big constantly sustainable fan base. The club has all the potential of being a big club, as it was on the cusp of some 8-10 years ago, its just been rotting with corruption from deep within.

Harry would consider it, as financially it would be his first chance to genuinely compete. Not that he's been short of money at Pompey second time around.
Has anyone mentioned wee Gordon Strachan?
That would be bizarre on Strachan's part. He would be sacrificing Champion's League football, trophies and bigger crowds. Newcastle is a smaller club and essentially a poisonous chalice.
Of course many Celtic fans would love to see the back of Strachan. Personally I am not on of them. But if we lose the next Old Firm game then retaining the league again looks virtually impossible and no title might make his position untenable. 4 Old firm defeats on the bounce would be hard to take.
I also think its unlikely Strachan would be departing the scene just after signing Hinkel and Mizuno and getting Boruc tied up.

A Chairman should have an air of authority. He should not be sitting in the stands with fat, topless Geordies with tattoos on their bellies. Them women should be at home looking after the kids.

Celtic is a bigger club, but its in a tin pot league (no offence). To be considered a top manager you have to do it in the premiership imo. Cant see wee-gordy leaving myself though.
Rumour is £20m to get Harry from Pompey. Not for me but obviously I'd back him if he is the man to take the job.

So by your reckoning Terry Balcburn are a bigger club than Tottenham and Balckpool are a bigger club than Leeds. behind the top 4 newcastle have more points than any other team in the history of the premiership, does that not prove they're a big club in terms of premiership football.
As for the few more years few more sackings - exactly why we need a manager who's experienced managing a big club and not manager(s) who are potentially good, but tend to crumble and waste big money. I think you'd be very surprised at how many fans wanted big sam to go, I'd say 80% wanted him to stay, even though he was making laughable tactical descisions. At the final whistle of the Stoek newcastle game fans were chanting "big sams black and white army".
Trepidation gives way to alarm....Friday's newspaper back pages are almost universal in their reporting of Ashley's intent to pay Harry Redknapp a cockney kings' ransom to succeed Sam Allardyce at SJP.
Mega-money claims of salaries, transfer kittys and private flights from Dorset to Tyneside are being made.
Is it just us....or are others equally nonplussed by this apparent attempt to replace one dodgy operator with another? After all, the bloke is still on bail until next month.
He was quoted in August by The Times as saying,
"I’m not a person who likes change, in all honesty. If I’m somewhere I’m happy, the money doesn’t matter and I’m not on an ego trip. I’m very happy here until such time as someone wants to change me. I love working here. The thought of going to any other club doesn’t interest me at all."
Apart from three years in Seattle, he's lived in London or the South Coast all his life. At 60 would he really want to up sticks and move to the North-East? If he doesn't then forget it, we don't want him jetting up for a few days a week.
It's also worth noting that the fantastic free-flowing football from Portsmouth this season translates into the following recent Premiership results at Fratton Park:
29.12.07 Portsmouth 0 Middlesbrough 1
26.12.07 Portsmouth 0 Arsenal 0
15.12.07 Portsmouth 0 Tottenham 1
01.12.07 Portsmouth 0 Everton 0
11.11.07 Portsmouth 0 Man City 0
27.10.07 Portsmouth 0 West Ham 0
Imagine a repeat of those results at St. James'? Harry would be on his way before May. Even our disastrous recent home form saw us score half a dozen times in the last six games

As a sidenote
I rear-ended a car this morning!
There I was alongside the road and slowly the driver got out of the car . . . and you know how you just-get-sooo-stressed and life-stuff seems to get funny? Yeah, well, I could NOT believe it . . . he was a DWARF!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me and said, "I AM NOT HAPPY!"
So, I looked down at him and said, "Well, which one are you then?". . . and that's when the fight started .

Straight to hell Chambers, do not pass go, do not collect your belongings.
I was in the doctors having an examination, the doc said "good news, there's nothing wrong with your back... however, you ARE going to have to stop masturbating" I said "what, no way, why?" the doc replied "because im trying to conduct a bloody examination"

Its criminal we've own fornicate all in 50 odd years, league leaders (11points clear) 2 fa cup finals all in the space of 4 years. The big club notion isnt invented by anyone, its basic enough, massive fan base, brilliant ground, world class training facilities, bags and bags of cash... we lack one thing and thats the ability to attract players and the man to do put everything together... shit thats 2 things... well we lack 2 things. Bobby Robson did it for a while, we were consistently a top 3 side just short of making the final step.
newcastle ARE currently a mediocre club but say the fans dont have patience is a bit nieve, all season the fans have been chanting for big sam to stay, and they dont turn on managers who produce good football and results. your the last person I thought would fall foul of sky sports news / british media's selective showings, a couple of bloody pissed up teenagers or old drunkards calling for shearers name, wonder how many interviews they did before getting those? Lovely media spin, how boring would it be for the media to run with "newcastle fans wanted allardyce to stay, and now each has a different opinion on a replacement" - believe me, not many want shearer.
You make the point "newcastle poor to watch" - exactly who do you blame for that? The chairman? The fans? or the manager! lets have a quick think, against stoke centre midfield Butt and Smith - where is the creativity, who is going to run with the ball? On the right wing... Damien Duff, the stereotypical LEFT footed winger! Earlier in the season N'zogbia (left winger) playing at left back and Milner (right footed right winger) left wing. Joey Barton (a masterstroke signing by who?) Right wing. The new club captain... why geremi of course, and geremi... not even in the 16!
With players liek Owen, martins, Milner, Given We can compete with the teams 4-8, that should be our place and aim for the moment.
Talk of relegation is ludicrous, no?

Wall-to-wall twaddle about a groundswell of opinion over a certain sheet metalworker's son from Gosforth sticks in our throat somewhat - based as it is on what seems to be no more than hot air and presumption.
Our friends from Sky invoke their favourite blues player Muddy Waters with their obtuse and garbled coverage:
1. Thursday: "Sam took training today" - a statement made against a backdrop of footage from a training session, with the intention being to suggest that it was current.
Look at little closer though and the cracks start to appear - like the presence of Joey Barton and players now off to the African Nations Cup.
2. Teenage tosspots full of blue pop, asked twice to perform a "Shearer, Shearer" chant for the cameras outside the Britannia Stadium before kick-off on Sunday.
Said footage is now being presented as documentary evidence of "The Geordie Nation" backing Shearer to take over at SJP.
You're having a laugh? Whoever told you he'd passed all of his badges was talking nonsense. just ask Tommy Craig and the SFA - we did.
The Mail are no better: "As Newcastle fans continue to demand Alan Shearer as their new manager" they wrote on Friday. How and when? Have they been round your house?
3. The attempt on Wednesday to mislead all and sundry about the Newcastle managerial situation with quotes presented as being live about Sam being dismissed without his knowledge.
4. David Craig interviewing the man with forked tongue from The Chronicle outside the ground - this is the Self Preservation society....giving each other cosy stories.
PS - Here's a message for Steve Bruce, Phil Brown, David Moyes, Paul Jewell, Alan Curbishley and anyone else who succumbed to the lure of the Sky microphone waved under their noses on Thursday:
Shut your yap. You don't know what you're talking about - try concentrating your efforts on the dung heaps you claim to be in control of....
PPS - Did anyone else notice Jim White suddenly appear in the SkySports News studio at 6pm on Wednesday - just like the shopkeeper on Mr Benn. Yet again, as if by magic, the gobsh*te appears when Newcastle hit the headlines. Uncanny.

Some of the fans are a bit deluded about this 'ethos' rubbish , though aren't they? 'got to be attractive football, we never accept anything less'. Had about 2 year of it in the last 50. Need to win something , anything to give you a kick start. Had a geordie on the radio last night claiming they've averaged 50,000 crowds for the last 37 years !! Don't these people know anything about the Club they claim to support? Not even Man Utd have had that.

50,000 for 37 years, thats just stupid, the ground was only expanded to above 50k in the mid nineties.
problem with winning things is the gulf between the top 4 and everyone else keeps getting bigger. They even bloody compete the carling cup now (well last couple of seasons). The FA cup has been won by one of the top 4 for the last 12 years! In fact only once since 1991 has a team other than Arsenal, man U, Liverpool & chelsea won the cup.

Indeed, without Tottenham and Everton(two genuinely big clubs

and Englands 5th and 6th most succesful in terms of trophies won)the domination would have been FAR greater.
WHo knows, maybe the Yids and the Toffees will face of in the League Cup Final this season? Would be a refreshing change(although, I have just put the mockers on it)
Any new man coming in needs to be given time, I think we all agree on that.
But is Harry the man for the job?
He has always loved the low expectation, underdog clubs(Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton and Pompey)who will never and are not really expected to challenge.
By taking the Geordies on he will have a set of deluded fans telling him to play like Brazil and insisting it's time their club(the biggest on the planet)won a treble or two...

They could go down with a Shearer/Keegan dream team. Be the best thing that could happen to them, forget blabbing on about them two and get to work.
