I watched UFC all the way through which was quite good actually.
Got bored toward the end as I was waiting for Skelton to start - it said it was coming on after the UFC.
Yeah - it was - THE REPLAY!!!
The damn thing was live on Setanta 2, I even kicked off the thread on the running order which was propmtly locked!
That's what getting hammered on a Friday can do.
Still I was more than pleased with Jones Trinidad which was being muted as a possible stinker.
Gutted I missed Karmazin as I forgot to tape the live broadcast though by the sounds of it the real Karmazin was somewhere else.

You were pleased with Jones v Tito?
Even with a smaller outgunned sitting duck in front of him Jones barely pulled the trigger. He really needs to hang them up he isn't doing his legacy any justice carrying on.
Calzaghe would annihilate him now.

Not one of my finest moments! The irony is that I thought Karmazin was cruising the fight and looking good. He just got tagged in the last and due to it being the first time he's ever been put down he showed his inexperience as he bounced straight back up rather than taking a count.
Too old to come back now though unfortunately. What a waste!
Yep, we ballsed up royally on that one!!!

Damn came on this thread looking to rub it in and someone beat me to it
I think Kazamins defense was 1 of his biggest let downs. His hands were down and he was wide open all night. Despite been the better boxer, with quicker hands, better workrate and maybe power his defense really let him down.
That KO really woke me up I was thinking of going to sleep before that and watching the re-run as I hate staying up all night

Yes but Jones looked to have been more impressive than Winky and Jones has always been a bit gun shy, I think hes still got the beating of Hopkins.
Jones against Calazage could still be interesting because Jones is faster and has better timing and use of distance, Calazage is open to right hands and Jones hits harder. I reckon Calazage just outworks him though at this stage. But Calazage is probably on the decline himself and isn't in his prime anymore

Calzaghe has way way more left than Jones at this stage. He's coming off a very impressive win over Kessler, Jones has failed to shine much in his last 3 fights against 2 no marks and a Welterweight. Calzaghe would simply overwhlem him - think how Jones got steamrolled against Johnson.

Trinidad looked just as bad if not worse than he did when he fought Winky, he can retire again now that hes had another payday which is all this fight was IMO. RJJ looked ridiculous taunting a fighter who was obviously waaaaay past his best, but in saying that it was probably the most exciting part of the fight.
Roys stamina still looks poor, he hardly done anything in the first 3 rounds. There's no way JC will give him 10 seconds off, let alone 3 rounds. If Roy hasn't got JC out of there in the first 4 or 5 rounds its JC's fight
I expect JC to fully affiliate himself to the seniors tour by taking on RJJ as its BIG bucks for little risk, in comparison to the Froch fight

RJJ wasn't gassed at all though, so we don't know what his stamina is like at the moment. He took the fight very easy. I don't know whether he was saving himself for a possible battle in the latter rounds or what.

The fact that he thought he had to take the first 3 rounds off spoke volumes, plus his stamina hasn't looked much cop since the Ruiz fight. RJJ was allowed to breeze through this fight, so as you say we can't judge how good his stamina is solely from this fight, but hes 39 now and I can't see it improving from what it has been in his previous 4 or 5 fights

I wouldn't dispute Calazage has more left. A few points:
1. Jones thought he only needed to show up against Glen Johnson to win and wasn't at his best or prepared for a real fight
2. In his prime Jones is a level above Calazage.
3. Calazage throws far more but his defense is open and if kessler catches him the faster Jones would catch him more
4. Calazages power isn't something RJJ needs to worry about and its interesting you bring up Trinidad being a Welter (which he isnt anymore) because I'd bet Trinidad bangs a damn site harder than Calazage who can't sit on his punches due to weak hands
5. Has Calazge ever fought anyone faster, with a better judgement of distance and timing before?
6. Yes Calazage is the favourate but its no gimme

I couldn't disagree more. Calzaghe still has good power, and he showed that when he hurt Kessler with a body punch. It really affected Kessler, who is a tough guy. RJJ has to keep his defense water tight in order to survive against Calzaghe.
How come you kept spelling his name as Calazage?

Got this one wrong - I expected a bit more from Trinidad to be honest.
My view of Jones hasn't changed, he is a shell of his former self.

I think people's judgement on Jones is being clouded by the fact he has not been fighting anywhere near elite level. He is nowhere near a match for Calzaghe at the moment. Calzaghe would win every second of every round against Tito right now. Jones had to take rounds off in order to get the win and not exert himself too much.

Jones beat a way smaller man in Tito. It was a rubbish mismatch designed to make him look flashy & get him the short route into another PPV fight. I think Calzaghe has recently reached a very high level of boxing.
Jones isn't going to bother Joe with right hands, because Jones never mixes it up with opponents. He throws the shot as he is going back, so I don't see how a moderately fit, 39 yo Jones can do much to Calzaghe who technically is better than ever, and who will pepper him with southpaw jabs (even peak Jones has had trouble with southpaws) and fast punches.

Yeah I agree. Although, I do think beating Ajamu, Hanshaw and Trinidad (and beaten them all well) is good enough to be worthy of a fight for a title. Ajamu and Hanshaw are decent, fringe top tenners.
I would love to see Jones vs Woods - as a Jones fan, I think that fight is very winnable.
A little surprised that Jones doesn't give Hopkins a chance vs Joe. He obviously has a lot of respect for Joe.

Hanshaw and Ajamu are fringe top tenners?
Am I watching the same division?

Well, there aint that much depth to the devision - and if you considered Hopkins retired and no Calzaghe, Winky Wright etc - then I think a 10-15 placing isn't out of the question.
Boxrec have Francis around 11, Ulrich at 12.... both Hanshaw and Ajamu would start as Favourites against them IMO.
Hanshaw drew against Mendy in the final of that shobox Super Middle tournament - thats not completely terrible form. Yes, Ajamu got beat when he stepped up - so maybe calling him 10-15 in the world (at the time) was a bit much.
I alot of my considerations of "fringe" contenders is based on the EBU champion - cause really the EBU champion should be in the top ten, not really cast in strone, buts its something I believe in. Ulrish isn't in the top 10, but is around there - and Ajamu and Henshaw are in his bracket.
