Lesnar fights Frank Mir on February 2nd in UFC. Only his second MMA fight and a stiff test for a guy with 1 fight. Mir isn't anything like what he was before his motorcycle accident but he still has every submission in the book.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:The two best active wrestlers on the planet IMO are Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar.
Both have the best amateur wrestling background for their weight class/style. Angle won an Olympic medal FFS and Lesnar decided to go pro with OVW (I believe run by Jim Cornette) with over a hundred wins and only 5 losses.
Steve Austin's amateur background was none existent as he was a college football player.
Most Wrestlers that I've seen interviewed have said that Kurt Angle is the best Wrestler they have ever seen. However, talking in pro terms it's contentious as it's hard to find out who's the best pro wrestler, as you don't really "win" matches.
You put any boxer in with a half decent Wrestler and the boxer would lose. Ali fought a contentious draw with Inoki in the seventies. Ali was then taken to hospital with severe brusing to his legs and could hardly fecking walk.

Of course, but we aren't talking about who can fight and who cannot.fist wrote:Sorry mate, Id take Eubank over a journalist any time. Moreover, I find it interesting to hear the opinions of an ex-world champ on the likes of other champs and contenders. Like it or not, he has more insight and knowledge than any of the armchair pundits on this site.
You don't need to be a participant to have insights. Of course, the perspective and insight a fighter has is different to that of a fan or journalist, but both points of view are valid.
Eubank's opinion is interesting, though given the reams of guff he has come out with lately, it is becoming less and less so. Less is more as it were. However, his opinion is very much weighted by his own ring career, hence his ridiculous comments on Calzaghe recently, vis-a-vis, Calzaghe not being great because he hasn't been beaten. Whilst recovering from a loss is a mark of a champion, so is not being beaten in the first place and dominating your challengers are the arse end of your career as Joe has done.
Nobody is deriding Eubank, who is one of the best loved warriors this country has ever produced, but to suggest he has more insight is incorrect, he has different insights, but he hardly has the most objective views when it comes to boxing and fighters.
Yeah, I'm wet with excitement on that one. Dana White says that he's seen Lesnar is training and he's the real deal. Bit of a baptism of fire for Brock fighting the former HW champ in only his second fight. I reckon they'll match him with the wiiner of the Sylvia fight for the interim HW champion, but would prefer him to be broken in more, e.g. against Kerr next.nickd wrote:Lesnar fights Frank Mir on February 2nd in UFC. Can you imagine in boxing a prospect being lined up with a former HW champ in only his seconds fight?!

Yea Eubank said he realises failing to win the 2nd Collins fight made him fall short of greatness, and he knows he could have 'bludgeoned' him when he had him bleeding and disorientated.. But that losing the 2nd Watson fight and coming back to win during the fight made him above great or something..
I think having the WBO title marred Eubank's rep a bit at the time because he was allowed to do basically what he wanted. But he was a legit British superstar with some quality wins. I think now that Brits are a real force to be reckoned with on the world scene, people will look back with a different perspective on Eubank and give him plenty of credit.

It sounds like he was completely insane as a kid..
Christopher Livingstone Eubanks (later opting to delete the 's' from his surname) was born on 8th August, 1966, in Dulwich, London and spent his early days in Jamaica (from two months old to six years old). On his return, he lived in Stoke Newington, Dalston, Hackney and then Peckham. He grew up in poverty.
Chris attended Bellingden Junior School, and then Thomas Carlton Secondary School from where he was suspended eighteen times in one year and then expelled, despite gallantly trying to protect other children from bullies. He then attended Peckham Manor School, from where he was suspended five times in four weeks and then also expelled for the same reason. Chris was then put into care.
He was then placed in various institutions by the Social Services: The Hollies in Sidcup, Kent, for one month; Yastrid Hall in North Wales for one and a half years; Stanford House in Shepherds Bush for seven weeks for assessment; St. Vincent's in Dartford, Kent, for one month; Orchard Lodge, Crystal Palace, for seven weeks for assessment; Karib in Peckham, London, for one month; and then, finally, Davy's Street School (care facility) in Peckham for one month before escaping, and living homeless for one and a half years.

He won't be rushed into a title shot that quickly. If he beats Mir I think he'll fight someone like Gonzaga, Vera or Werdum next. I'd still say he'll need 3 or 4 wins in UFC before he gets his shot. I am eager to see how he looks next Saturday.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Yeah, I'm wet with excitement on that one. Dana White says that he's seen Lesnar is training and he's the real deal. You're probably right. My gut feel is that Couture will come back, like he has before, and face the interim champ. It's just a shame they didn't get Fedor.nickd wrote:He won't be rushed into a title shot that quickly. If he beats Mir I think he'll fight someone like Gonzaga, Vera or Werdum next. Rumours are Couture is already negotiating a Fedor fight for sometime after October. I'd love to see them go at it.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:You're probably right. Presumably in M1, as Fedor is tied to them now?nickd wrote:Rumours are Couture is already negotiating a Fedor fight for sometime after October. Probably, although Fedor's deal is non exclusive hence why he fought on the Yarennoka show at new year.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Presumably in M1, as Fedor is tied to them now?nickd wrote:Rumours are Couture is already negotiating a Fedor fight for sometime after October. I just read Lesnar is being lined up to fight next at UFC 86 at the O2 Arena on June 14th.
