Or course it would be good if Hatton fought Witter but such is life - the way people go on you would think he had never fought a decent opponent in his career.

The bile is quite staggering at times....

Can't believe how polarised opinion is on Hatton and Witter.
Hatton gets a lot of stick for hype, but what has he done to hype himself? I can't remember him saying an awful lot to over-promote himself, certainly no more than Witter. Neither should be criticised for this. It's typical British sporting media, we build them up and when other people get on the bandwagon we turn on them and make out they were never as good as we thought they were.

Was everyone on here thinking Tszyu was over the hill before the fight? It's all hindsight talking on here; we make a big deal of slighting Hatton's record by claiming Tszyu was past it - Hatton was a big underdog, Tszyu was what, 35 (same as Calzaghe now right?) and three 1/2 years earlier had been annihilating Judah, following it up with wins over Tackie, Leija and Shamba Mitchell in that time. He wasn't any more inactive than most of the top p-4-p fighters, and put up a good fight on the night, just struggling with Hatton's energy and sheer workrate. Tszyu didn't look past it to me, but that's the weapon of choice when we slam Hatton isn't it.

Castillo was also very busy, and while he possibly never reached favourite status in the Hatton build up he was still a genuine big scalp. I would argue that he's a bigger scalp (especially in the finish) that Harris for Witter, but we deride the Castillo win and laud the Harris one.

Give both the fighters their due, but let's see what matchups happen first and let the Hatton camp make their next fight. If Hatton avoids Witter all career without returning to real big names (I mean such as Cotto - although this is obviously incredibly unlikely) then I will slate him too, but we're all a bit premature in this Hatton bashing.

 Yup, stumped me too! I think this is one of those guys that has made something of a career of trolling internet boxing forums.

Whatever puts some sunshine in yer life I guess!

Good post Sharpei_Louis. It's not that I can't understand both sides of the argument, it's just that I don't understand the sheer bile/hatred it provokes.

You think Hatton should fight Witter. Ok - good for you, let's hope it happens. Let's not waste x amount of hours of one's life spamming internet forums with wrestling smack-talk/bitching etc. Go out for a walk or something!

Anyone read the Boxing Monthly article about Hatton Vs Floyd?

Kayes thinks Floyd has more core strength than Ricky to why he was stronger, Floyd has never used strength to beat a fighter, he's always faster than them and has to slip alot when pushed to the ropes to counter punch them. He's done that In recent fights with the pot shotting.
Hatton KO 8 Witter
Witter has never been close to cleanly being KO'ed even at 2 weeks notice Vs Judah which he made close. Witter's chin Is better than Ricky's.

I agree with you on Froch though, terrible fans think he would be competitive against Joe because of his mouth.

I don't think we can comment on Witter's chin, as it's never been truly tested. Floyd even said he was amazed at how much punishment Ricky took before going down.

Perhaps the Judah fight was close because he was on the back foot. I haven't seen the fight, but reviews have said there was very little contact because Witter ran for 12 rounds.

Ray Hatton ruled out Junior Witter being his son's next opponent but said that fight was likely at "some stage".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7151665.stm
Yeah right, we can take what the Hatton's say as gospel then can we?

Like when Ricky said 'It's in me contract to fight Junior.'

Wake up mate.
I think someone, possibly Terry or yourself, said precisely what I thought; provided he fights Junior at some time none of us should have a problem with it.

If he doesn't fight him within his 5 fights, people can moan all they want. But right now they have no foundation for it and my suspicion for all this Hatton bashing actually boils down to Team Hatton making a lot of money from the Mayweather tickets, no his refusal to fight Witter next.

There's at least 3 threads on this subject now on British Boxing. Quite frankly, there must be better/more interesting/newer subjects to discuss, than this all the time. Since December I've noticed a lot less topics on new talent, or even general issues, it's just "Why won't Hatton fight Witter. Why won't Hatton fight Witter. Why won't Hatton fight Witter.".

Aren't you bored?

Is this how British Boxing is gonna be until they meet??!?!

If so, I don't wanna be part of this forum. At least on Current Scene they troll (I'm not calling you a troll James) about more than just one subject.
I just want to see Hatton fight the best in his weight class. He is clearly not cut out for 147, after his peformances against Collazo and Mayweather, it's clear he needs the advantages in strength which fighting at 140 conveys.

Why are people moaning about this fight all the time? Because British ppl want the fight.

The debate has gone on long enough. At 140, Hatton has fought Magee, Tszyu, Maussa, Urango and Castillo. Witter has fought Ndou, Lynes, Kotelnik, Corley, Morua, Harris.

Soon there will be no one else for each man to fight at light welter! Soon they will be fighting guys who have lost to Rees and Malingaggi (Herman, Souleymane anyone?). Already Witter practically had to turn down Castillo, cos Hatton had already beaten him. Now Hatton is fighting a man, who lost to someone, who lost to Witter, JUST AFTER WITTER'S OPPONENT PULLED OUT MAKING WITTER AVAILABLE. I think it's an embarrassment.

Why would Hatton have a phoney war with a guy like Malimouthy? It would be all talk and then nothing on fight night? Why contrive to hype up Hatton vs say Rees - as if that'll EVER gappen with Rees a route to titles for Khan - when we have a real grudge match that could brew between Witter & Hatton.

D.G is right on this occasion.

I watched the fight recently after ordering it on DVD, and although he lost clearly, you got the impression that with just a bit more self belief, he could have beaten Zab. He made Judah look absolutely amateurish at times, and looked like the class fighter of the two.

I gave him four rounds I think.

The Showtime backlash was at least partly to do with the fact that 'Super' Zab Judah was made to look ordinary. Witter was meant to go over there, give it a go, and get bashed up to make Judah look good. It was all nice and cushy between Jay Larkin and Warren, and it backfired and Larkin never forgave Witter.

The Calzaghe-Froch situation is different to the Hatton-Witter one, Hatton-Witter have gone through the same stages of their careers at the same time and the fight has been called for for ages. Froch and Calzaghe have always been at different stages of their careers

There appears to be a trend with Witter fans.

Which is why Kayes is not a boxing trainer.

Core strength, whatever you want to call it, is no substitute for skill, timing, accuracy and most importantly, something Hatton lacked badly during the fight, a good defence.

I don't know about Witter's chin being better than Hatton's, but he's done a more thorough job of protecting it throughout his career.

Hatton as he has moved up in class, has proven to be progressively easier to hit. Tszyu didn't have the legs to hang in there, Mayweather did. Collazo came within a whisker of stopping a tiring Hatton also.
