cracking fight, Kat right back into it, had a great 4th. Anyone else watching it?
Warren could bring him over 1 day, IMO. One Olympic star vs another. (admittedly Casa was the bigger ama star). Classic old vs new matchup as well. Would have to make the fight "at the right time", and the right time will come. I think Joel is a fantastic fighter, to still be here at this level.Southpaw Stylist wrote:Most of you were wrong.
I'd love Casa to fight Khan and chin him tbh.
I think if Casa wins one more big fight, such as WBA, WBO & IBF champ Campbell, he's in the hall of fame. Like you say, ama and pro success, never been outclassed, won 2 of 3 vs Corrales, KO of Katsidis in a classic, etc.MatthewS wrote:the only post-castro cuban to win an olympic gold and a world title
I think they should try and get Cassamaya NOW before someone else does. Sure he could pick apart a Katsidis with no defense but he looked close to being ko'd by the younger man in doing so and he had problems with Santa Cruz (I was in the minority having him winning)Autobarn wrote:I think if Casa wins one more big fight, such as WBA, WBO & IBF champ Campbell, he's in the hall of fame. I think he would be a huge scalp at the right time for Khan...Casa is vulnerable at this stage and we'll see where Khan's at if he fights Romanov.
Could be a great lightweight era upcoming.
Based on last night, I'd make Amir a very slight favourite if they fought now. Good workrate, coming in at angles and decent power will now beat Casa. Kat should have won, he was so reckless at the start of the 10th looking for the KO with big swinging hooks.jamesmcdonnell wrote:One in the bag for me. Shame Casa didn't win on points, but still made a bit of money on the KO win.
Sounds like Casa looked very old in there, Warren should try and get him for Khan, sounds like he might struggle with Khan's speed at this stage of the game.
Casa has established hes the champ. He won the ring belt, Diaz picked up the scraps of belts and lost to Campbell who Casa already beat. 95% of the fans were calling Juan Diaz the man but that right goes to Casa no doubtAutobarn wrote:Casa said he wants the money fights. If there's money I'll bet he takes it. Time to step up, Amir?
Or how about wait till Casa and Nate Campbell settle whom the champ is at lightweight and pick on the leftovers?
re Campbell - pretty good "scraps" becoming the guy to take away Juan Diaz's aura of invulnerability! I went back to Casa-Campbell 1 - had Casa winning 6-4 in rds over 10. i think if he beats him again it just really cements his career and bridges "lineal" and "unified" titles. (and also make up for that Santa Cruz performance which was well below par).Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Casa has established hes the champ. Casa could be to Khan what Tyszu was to Hatton
I think it's too big a step up for Amir at the moment, as he's not fought at anywhere near that level yet. He still needs to prove himself at European level (Thaxton-Romanov winner) first. I'm not one who believes his win over St. Clair has established his world-class credentials. Garry was out of his weight class and some time past his world-class prime.Autobarn wrote:Casa said he wants the money fights. If there's money I'll bet he takes it. Time to step up, Amir?

I'm getting confused as to who holds which belt/interim title at present. From what I can gather, a win over Kristjansen would improve Khan's WBO ranking and take him the Casa/Campbell route. Both too dangerous at this stage, IMO. Pac will probably beat David Diaz for the WBC, vacate immediately and move on. That might present Amir with a more realistic opportunity - just depends who's in the opposite corner.Autobarn wrote:re Campbell - pretty good "scraps" becoming the guy to take away Juan Diaz's aura of invulnerability! IMO Khan will make it to world class more convincingly than Hatton. There will be no WBU clowning around I hope. Given that Hatton spent about 14 defences there, & has mixed results at world class, a case could be made that's his true level. Amir seems the more natural talent so hopefully he steps up cinvincingly.
Wouldn't Warren want proper sanctioning body belts, rather than "just" a magazine title for Khan? I think British fighters like to have the "big four" belts; Ring titles don't seem t have really caught on over here. You seldom see Boxing News acknowledging a Ring mag/lineal champ.
do you reckon Kristiansen and Romanov might get him ready? Romanov is in the Ring mag top 10 lightweights (as is Khan for that matter).chesh wrote:I think it's too big a step up for Amir at the moment, as he's not fought at anywhere near that level yet. Thanks for that. Glad someone can keep up with these things!Autobarn wrote:Casa is still the lineal champ for beating Corrales though he was stripped of the WBC belt to accomodate Eric Morales-David Diaz after he tried unsuccessfully to get a revenge fight with Freitas.
After beating Katsidis I think Casa has a couple of "interim" titles - probably the WBO and WBC.
WBA title holder Juan Diaz was collecting the belts against ambition-lacking titlists Freitas (WBO) and Julio Diaz (IBF), who both quit against him, before getting his arse kicked by Nate Campbell.
So we have this crazy situation where Campbell is practically undisputed champ - in terms of sanctioning body belts - and with Casamayor as the historically recognised king of the lightweights.
I think ultimately Casamayor and Campbell need to fight each other...again. They had a pretty good fight in the early '00s for those who haven't seen it. GBP have Casamayor so they can get it on HBO I'll bet.
Khan vs the winner of that fight between 36-year-olds would be nice, next year. Like you say if he beats the Dane, Khan will not be far off WBO mandatory which hopefully gets him a shot at the beyond doubt #1!
I think Romanov would definitely help get him ready for a world-title shot. I think Khan needs to win convincingly at that level (the bridge between Euro and true world class) before he is put in with the real champs. I see the Kristiansen fight as a "treading water" type of fight which won't tell us anything new.Autobarn wrote:do you reckon Kristiansen and Romanov might get him ready?
