Taylor is a boxer through and through as is RJJ and as such they could show flaws in a lot of boxers.
Where I believe Hopkins could be troubled is POWER shots - but Calzaghe is not a singly concusive puncher and as such will rely on his speed of punch and the wily old fox called Bernard Hopkins has the necessary skills to show up some of the Calzaghe frailities that the welshman definitely has.
If Hopkins stood there and simply fought toe to toe then Calzaghe wins the fight easily by as you state speed of punch - but there is not a chance in this f*cking world of ours that Hopkins will do that.
Everytime Calzaghe comes steaming in Hopkins will try to score with his own countering jabs and combo's - if that does not work plan b will be to hold until the referee shouts break.
No way does Hopkins put that fight in doubt. He will manage to nullify Joe in points, but not enough to win the rounds.
I sincerely hope you are right but there are many people within boxing who really want to see Joe Calzaghe win - but have reservations that Bernard Hopkins is going to have the necessary skills to turn the fight into a negative one and thus negate Calzaghes strong points - can Hopkins run for 12 rounds??

They are just being paranoid.
Taylor, a much less cultured and exprienced fighter than Calzaghe, and one with serious stamina issues, beat old man river on workrate and straight punching, Calzaghe will do the same, except the decision will be clearly in his favour.

I do think Hopkins was afraid of taking Taylor's power shots over the first 6 rds. Joe's punches won't be particularly hard. He hurts in flurries, not sngle shots. Hopkins will find a defence that will make sure he doesn't get hurt. I think he will work on making Joe look bad and then trying to counter mistakes.
Problem is is playing a very fine line. If Joe has answers for him and doesn't make amateur mistakes, he is going to let himself fall into a points deficit.

Ahh a decision in his favour - that brings me onto the point I have been trying to stress all along - THE JUDGES.
Do you think Calzaghe will be treated fairly?
Need I stress the point is in Vegas - top of the bill is a guy who is ODH's sidekick in his promotional company - I am not saying for one minute they will seek a dodgy decision - what I am saying here is that some judges sometimes are overly eager to please and their interpretations of how a fight has gone - leaves me at times astounded!!!

Why on earth would Joe make amateur mistakes!?
He's a very skilled boxer, who happens to be aggressive, not some face first brawler who wades in there willy nilly.
Joe will have too much of everything for Hopkins, I'm as sure as eggs is eggs about this one, and will be having a major punt on Joe to win.

different fighters.
taylor's a sharp long range puncher.
calzaghe gets involved more often and scores with flurries.
therefore gives hops more opportunities to counter.
taylor didn't give much away and was just that bit sharper.
for 8 rds anyway.

Don't see it happening personally. The judges cannot stand watching Hopkins, hence his two close losses to Taylor.
I don't think the rounds will be close enough to be influence by pre-fight hospitality.

James I said something very similar to someone quite famous in the sport who wants Joe to win just as much as anyone else - but - he says that I am severly underestimating Hopkins - he states "just because you think Hopkins is a boring and dull fighter does not mean he isn't any good - he does what he needs to win - he does the things necessary to impress the judges"
I am serious I want Joe Calzaghe to win - but we will call this thread up again in a few weeks then you can say - what the f*ck were you flapping about Spud - and I hope you do - problem is I have seen some judges completely and utterly p*ssed the night before a championship fight - my son has been with me and said "Dad they are meant to be judging tommorow night, I am a bit worried about X's chances now".

observe Calzaghe countering Hopkins counters, Joe's relentless and if counters come his way he'll simply follow up.

thought you'd have learnt about betting on Welsh fellas after Saturday!! I lost a few nicker on Enzo myself .......I think the performance against Braithwaite and the result over Hobson helped or I wouldn't have bothered.
That plus the fact Haye can look vulnerable at times.
I, unlike some, was actually impressed with the way Joe handled Bika who was tough, fit, big, and crudely aggressive. I'm not saying Bika's as good as Hopkins but I expect Joe to beat Hopkins without much trouble.
The odds will be crap but then it is after all a NEAR CERT JOE WILL WIN.
