Whether he deserves the ranking by the WBO is neither here nor there on opponents, whether he is good enough to fight at this level is a resounding yes, he ain't another Elcock going over to get chinned and get paid well... he's going to win...

Pavlik is tall for the weight and comes forward with a crap defence so whats so crazy about him getting tagged... ?????
You're shooting yourself in the foot by on the one hand defending Lockett, but then instead of leaving it at that, sticking the knife into the reputation of another fighter. To throw accusations about like that makes you no better than those slagging Lockett.
For what it's worth I'd think Elcock would beat Lockett on points, and it's a real 50/50 fight that would split the forum down the middle I suspect.
Also, you simply can't state that Lockett is "good enough to fight at this level" because he never has and so is unproven. We'll only find out on the night.... I happen to be among those who think he's out of his depth, but of course I'd love him to spring the upset as he comes across as a good guy. Nothing to lose at this stage of his career...
Maybe I didn't put that across too well, that wasn't meant to be a dig at Wayne Elcock at all, I like the guy actually. He actually wrote a piece about the Abraham fight which I totally respected and I actually hoped he'd win although similar to you with Lockett I didn't think he would.

What I meant was looking at it in hindsight I've seen people on another forum mention it as though Elcock and Lockett were/are walking into a firing squad for a few quid....

Re fighting Lockett - like you said a forum splitter but I think Lockett would win and the only one in Britain who'd have given him a go was Dann who sadly retired..

Anyway I hope thats clear - not a dig at Elcock and like you I'd love to see Lockett win as he's a brit!!

Well said mate!! :TU:

I didn't know winning a European junior gold booked you a shot at the undisputed professional world title.

But seriously - ask Gary what he feels he has done to deserve the fight and why he feels he has a chance
Look at my post b4 you write stupid things, I said Gary has skill meaning everyone is only giving him a punchers chance.About the European gold you dont win one of them without skill. Lets start backing our lads instead of slating them

Is a simple rule of thumb that one should only put on an internet forum what one would say to a person's face too much to ask?

you know better than that Loynesy, too many tossers.

And Arnie's correct, why be so fornicating critical of our lads? I

I know Maelstrom, Search and Stepinshite haven't got a cock between them but come on boys, give us some positive comments.

Best wishes are extended to Gary from all in Sheffield - he's got his chance and he's got a puncher's chance.
Getting technical, I know that Rhodes wasn't troubled at all by Gary's power, and that in return Gary did have a wobbly moment when Rhodes caught him - but he rallied well.
Putting that all into context, and removing any bias as a Rhodes fan, I have to say that Gary has a big task on his hands.
That said, as my intro says - he has puncher's chance.
It only takes a moment of weakness, for Pavlik maybe to take things for granted in his prep, and a sweet left hook to land flush, and we could all be witnessing another shock.
It is a well known trait for certain people to continuously slate our lads ( damned if you do, damned if you dont) and the likes of Arnie will endorse that.
I've seen it for too many years now, so to be honest I dont bite.
When Search has received his inevitable comeuppance there will be another to take his place.
I just wish I could be there to witness his comeuppance !
Surely there's an IT expert who can track him down from his IP address ?
Form a queue to pay him a visit !

Re IP address's - hell yeah there would be plenty of takers there lol.. :TU:

Re Lockett v Rhodes: Couple of points,

1. The shot Lockett put Rhodes down with was a glancing shot and not what you would call a true connection.

2. Yeah Rhodes tagged him fair play but as you say he got his a** up and dug in..

3. Gary didn't look good at all - he did 3 weeks training for this - true. His wife wasn't well at the time (true) so he didn't go up to Manchester to train when he was supposed to. You might say he was a fool to himself for not putting in the work but people have lives, live and learn... maybe he took him lightly TBH (mistake)... but take nothing away from Rhodes he showed he had a lot to give the sport and likewise we all wish him only the very best!!

4. Training with Enzo he is 10 times fitter than he has ever been with very hard gym work plus hill running/hill sprints/training even out of competition (something he's never done before)/great quality sparring with Joe/Enzo Macc - essentially the things he should have been doing for the last 10 years IMO - better late than never hey..

5. For my money Rhodes didn't make a proper fight of it and was a little gun shy. Thats no disrespect to Rhodes at all because I'm actually a fan of Rhodes and think its a real shame he hasn't won more in his career, but I think he covered up from distance and hence Locketts power didn't matter because he didn't catch him properly - if he had he would have ko'd him IMO. This is something that COCO touched on too!!

6. He won the Rhodes fight on boxing ability not power so it shows he can box too...

7. I don't think Gary has performed to the best of his ability to date - don't be too quick to judge..

8. MOST IMPORTANTLY - Pavlik certainly won't be gun shy and will come gunning for him from bell one so Gary won't have to look for him. IMO Gary's always performed better as a counter puncher and has power in both hands rather than just the left hook - Enzo has got him using it. Essentially its kill or be killed and I think thats what he needs to perform.

Please don't jump all over this post as an 'anti Rhodes' post because it ain't. Like I say I do like Rhodes and I remember cheering him on in his first World title challenge. I understand he's at light middle now and I hope he comes good again - I'd certainly watch him and cheer him on without a shadow of a doubt!!!

Finally - Yeah I totally agree Gary does have a massive task on his hands v Pavlik but thats what you expect when you fight the genuine world number one and not an alphabet champion. Even in defeat there is a lot of kudos to be gained but thats not the way we're looking at it, its an opportunity to go into the lions den, pull his tail and then tell him you want to 'do his missus' and hope he makes a mistake coming at you LOL....

THIS AIN'T A WALK IN THE PARK FOR PAVLIK BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION....
