Terry D....thanks for your rephrasing and your emphasis on factual items.
It seems no matter how FACTS are presented, whether by a preponderance of evidence or beyond a shadow of a doubt, regardless of the degree of legitimacy or reasonability they are presented with, TRUTH will not stand a chance with any Johnny one note that has, after a life time of toil and hard labor finally found their own nose. And in turn firmly believes that this discovery represents the final frontier in the cosmos'.
They will argue with the existence of a wall if the wall appears to be further out that than the nose they know to be the end of the universe.

He'll be back to tell everyone that Liston's wife does not know what she is talking about. After all we know she was paid off by Ali and is part of the Ali industry. What does Liston's ex-wife know about it all? She is not privy to 'inside' information. She is not a 'face' on the scene.
In all my years I would never think that the best looking boxer of all time, a guy with decent skills, who fought the best names available, who impacted dramatically on perception and social issues, and who was also very witty would manage to gather so many fans/Shills/Hauser.
Agreed, and I agree with granberry in a sort of odd way that each story should be scrutinized for legitimacy.
And all the facts in this case add up to a Liston lacking in self Confidence who didn't really believe in himself and already had his excuse made before he entered the ring. Yep the ref turned numbscull in the ring and made a bonehead decision which did not help. But after that shot he took he was not a man who steeled himself to show his ability or a man outraged by the judges error....he seemed more bewildered and perhaps relieved but not the imposing figure that one might expect, that would be demanding justice. He honestly was stunned by that shot....there simply is no room for doubt on that.
Imagine if that was Joe Frazier that went down? He'd be back up throwing shots at anything in front of him. He would not go quietly like this pseudo bully. You can be mad at Liston for letting himself down...that's fair, but you can't go after the one man who sincerely did come to fight that day.
I agree Liston could have gone on....he could have gotten up in time, it was in his hands...he had at least some control over these events. It would not however have changed the eventual outcome. Liston did not have what it took to complete the mission. Period.

Amusing to watch the members of
The Religion twist and gyrate in their agony.
The fight was a
FAKE.
.
The poster they all have pasted up next to their Che poster on the wall above them as they peck at their keyboards is a poster of a FAKE fight.
IT'S A FAKE.

It's certainly clear that Ali came to fight. Nothing fake about that.
Certainly looks as if Sonny wasn't quite up to the task from that pic.

The truly amusing thing is you posting the same nonsense week after week.
It's one thing to say the average fan in here knows nothing about boxing and so cannot appreciate the pearls of wisdom you cast before them.
But the acknowledged boxing people on "the greatest thread ever", guys who have been around boxing all their lives also reject your views and label them as being ridiculous.
In fact, the sole support for your wacky ideas seems to come from Davey and Elma... Need I say more?

This past Oct. we, Dan Hanley & I, interviewed Georgie Benton, who was inducted as a trainer. Unfortunatly, we didn't have the time that need be devoted to such a great source of history. I loved watching Benton fight, not to mention Bennie Briscoe, Harold Johnson, "Kitten" Hayward, Gypsy Joe Harris, etc.
Hopefully, Benton will attend our '08 WBHOF banquet. If so, we'll be prepared to do it as it should be done.

Benton lost his own career sitting around and waiting.
He was a used as a ‘policeman’ in the overall agenda.
And then his career was over. His years as a fighter were gone.
WHY? Because Carter was supposed to get a title fight (which he then did) and Benton was a dutiful soldier for the people who were controlling things. Carter didn’t belong in the same ring with a fighter like Benton.
This is very interesting. Right after the WBHOF banquet ended last year, most of the boxers & guests, including myself, had rooms at the Hotel. I was with an old friend who helped us conduct the interviews and we went into the bar to have a drink. George Benton, and one of his son's who'd accompanied him, were sitting at the bar.
I took the stool next to Benton and bought he and his son a drink. Earlier in the evening we'd interviewed Benton, and Dan Hanley did a good job despite having no time to prepare. It was one of those on-the-spot things. I jumped in and we pulled a bit more out of George, however,
it was what we discussed "off camera" in the bar that validates, in my mind, what you share in the above post.
I won't continue at this moment, as my wife of less than a week has plans for us. I fight with just about anybody, but I don't cross this Brazilian lady.

A shame what happened to him as he had a lot of potential and was a very strong guy with a good head on his shoulders, would you happen to know what Jerry is up to these days and how he is doing by any chance?
