Use the search function and search the British forum for views on the Lacy/Calzaghe fight.

You'll find that a high percentage of British fight fans picked a Lacy upset.

if that's true then british fans should actually watch fighters fight before they pick him to beat someone, either that or get a clue about the sport of boxing, something I highly recommend you to do instead of depending on when someone actually signed up to a boxing message board.

Anyway, I picked Calzaghe, but only in the couple of weeks before the fight because I actually knew he was serious and prepared. But then it turned out he'd done no sparring and was going to pull out. That was considered to be a brave pick.

The bottom line is that Joe was looking like crap v poor opponents, had pulled out once before, was farting away his title reign and had become a national (international?) joke. He was going to have to recapture some serious form. It almost seems like to much to ask for getting Joe to have the big fights, so it's easy to see why ppl picked against Joe.

Lacy did have a clueless look about him - I never truly rated him as I could not shake off the Sheika and (1st) Tatevosyan fights. But he was a busy title holder, improving, and showing a bit of speed and variety. Who was to know that Joe would be so hyped up for it that he threw 7 punch combos, 90 punches a round, and would maintain that workrate? Since when had Joe boxed that well? Or who would predict Lacy's bravado would dissipate so fast before the actual fight, that he'd become a bag of nerves (perhaps sensing that Joe was up for it)?

I think you're doing a bit of the old revisionist theory. I mean effing hell, there's always someone on here who has to say everything was so obvious beforehand. If we have so many experts, how come you don't all go down the bookies and make yourself a killing every week or two?
