I admit I do not have a great deal of knowledge. That is why I am here to learn from you guys.

From the contemporary accounts it sounded like a 'boring' fight. Great men have those, and as you know styles make fights. It just seems that Corbett-Jackson didnt have the chemistry to make a fan favourite.

How do you envision the 61 rounds ? to be a back and forth dance of violence of passion, heart and the utmost of technical prowse ?

I am just interested in getting all opinions.

C'mon, Robster, you yourself said three pounds shouldn't constitute a difference in weightclass, because the difference is negligible, yet Frazier, a Heavyweight, was nine pounds more than when he faced Ali in his career-defining fight, & he was way overweight? Naughty, naughty :P

Interested to know why you chose that fight as I did, Collins. Foreman fan, as well?

i dont remember joe's camp making too much of a fuss at the time.
that fight is a landmark one for me. i have been fascinated with it since i saw it all those years ago. complete dominance of one man over the other and i was a big frazier fan then too.

i remember young marvis was ringside and someone noticing how joe was not sweating like a maniac as he normally did before the opening bell. he seemed subdued and doubtful that he could beat the guy in front of him. he was right. he took a hell of a beating. great picture

However it happens, Foreman knew that he could not let Frazier get into the fight. And he didnt.

I love to watch Frazier and he is one tough guy, I would love to have seen him fight in the flesh or to have more of his fights on film. In any case its hard to deny Foreman's dominance over him.

I am sure that, had it been a 10 round or even a 20 or 25 round fight, it would have been alot more interesting. Accounts for many of those "finish fights" make them sound like wars of attrition. For example, I have some news accounts of Tommy Ryan's 1891 bout with Danny Needham, which Ryan won on a 76-round KO. According to these accounts, Ryan and Needham had more than a few rounds late in the fight in which they threw either no punches at all or only one or two. Tommy was normally a very exciting fighter.

..yeah..my choice would have been corbett/sullivan...but that's been picked by several here....so...i'd relly like to see any one of the original joe walcott's fights. he must have been a wonder, with his success against big guys...considering his height and weight. surely one of the phyisically strongest fighters ever.
