Good point Tom - he has quietly brought Macca to the forefront of the British middleweight scene and whilst his corner work has been good on the occassions I have seen it up close, I would like to have seen him do more to raise Macca's profile nationally.

That said, once he gets his break on national TV figting for the British title no one will be in the dark any longer about the Priory pressure fighter!

Any whispers at to when the Elcock fight will be rescheduled for? Is it looking like July or will it be held over til Sept?

Have been hearing that it could be July. I hope it doesn’t get held over to September, especially as I’m moving at the start of September! Waited almost four years for the fight and then don’t get the chance to see it.

Everyone will have heard of Mac once he relieves Wayne of his British title.

I would love to smash Riath Hamed in the face with a banjo, he makes my skin crawl...you've probably all seen him on the documentaries.
how do you know that his dad is running the show? do you have a mole inside the camp who keeps you regularly updated?!

Amir has a team around him that ensure that he is looked after, both in and out of a boxing ring. if his dad was running the show he wouldn't need a business manager.

The family are running the show, just like Hamed's family ran the show, you don't need a mole to see that pal, you need common sense.

Do you have that?

Given the current climate, change of trainer and his next choice of opponent being Gomez, rather than the world title shot he wanted, I'd put money on them being behind it. Nothing sinister, it's Khan's career, but it stinks.....

Powell rather than Harrison? Madness....

Who here thinks Khan will be promoted by Fwank after 2008? I don't...I'd be very surprised.

I'm not talking about inside info, I'm asking as boxing fans..

Why do you say that.... so you happy with Khan's progression 3 years into his pro career - seen major improvements.

Now, Harrison has done a WONDERFUL job with Jamie Moore, and maybe no one could have done anymore with Khan.... but we are not talking about some average Amateur here. We are talking about a frightenly good prospect , gifted with Handspeed and power.

If you would have told me after 2004, would I see Khan on the floor and nearly out of it vs Willie Limond in 2006 - I would have said, you're having a laugh.

And his promoter didn't want a world title fight either, so it could be his doing. Warren and Powell are naturally close.... are Warren and Harrison so comfy?

What has Dean Powell done to deserve to get Khan at this stage, after Harrison guided him to the brink of a title shot?

Powell is a 'yes' man...

Limond is no mug, Khan showed a lot in that fight. And how old is he, he's still just a kid.

It amazes me.

And I meant that Warren is the one stalling his title shot, hence him getting Michael Gomez rather than a decent test ahead of a title shot.

Gomez is a step backwards.

That's why I asked if you think he'll still be promoting Khan next year?

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather where beating up the likes of Jimmy Bredhal and Angel Manfredy at similar stages..... and Khan could have that potential.

Alot of comparison's has been made between Hamed and Khan in this thread - except for THE MAJOR comparison in my view - their ability level. Hamed was the best damn 20 year old I think the UK has every produced... Khan could be even better.

Man of that talent... he really now shouldn't be having life and death struggles with a "no mug" level fighter. A far better Amateur than Tim Bradley who has now won a world title.

Being a kid is all the better, you can guide him much quicker - get rid of bad habbits easier. You can mould him into your fighter easier.

Harrison HASN'T guided him to a world title shot (or the brink of one).... allegedly has. Do you really think his list of victims warrant his lofty rankings.

I watch Khan make his pro debut, and I think - FANTASTIC prospect - all the natural ability in the world. Up there in the top #4 or #5 prospects in world boxing P4P - but he'll make mistakes that will be ironed out.

3 years down the line... and my opinion of Khan hasn't changed at all.... the mistakes are still there.

Powell.... 1) Is only a temporary thing...... but anyway, okay criticise his achievements all you like... Harrison's outstanding achievements are?

Well that is very confusing... you say "them" - do you mean the Khan family or Warren.

Why would Khan appoint Warren's match maker as a coach, and fight the guy Warren wants him to fight if he is to be leaving him?

Just a question.

That's what I'm asking. It makes absolutely no sense.

Gomez is a step back from Khan's last few fights, even Earl. He's coming off the back of a loss so what he hell is he doing in with Khan?

I can see Khan sticking with Powell and Warren for one fight and then going to America, it's surely a means to an end.

The Harrison situation just baffles me.

I agree Gomez is a step back... I just think that taking this fight and having Powell to train him is a sign that he will re-sign with Warren. But as you said, could be a just to finish the association... we'll see.

The Harrison situation doesn't really baffle me as an outsider.... cannot say I have been too impressed with the progress made.

Powell is a good trainer, he might be too busy with the match making to really focus in on it - but he knows his stuff. ... just as Frank Maloney isn't a bad trainer.

Manfredy's major win is Gatti (possibly Brown) and he was then pounded by Mayweather. He, in my opinion, is no better a fighter than an Earl or St Clair. He was very, very limited.

De La Hoya is a one-off, he flew to the top and was fighting the likes of Jeff Mayweather after a handful of fights. He also had Bob Arum in his corner, not Fwank.

Is Khan that bad?! He's a terrific fighter and is going to be going for a world title. He's beaten everyone easily, the only fighter that gave him trouble was Limond.

He has his flaws but he's still just a kid, he is getting better with every fight, and now he's dumped his trainer?

He was exceptional against St Clair, and now he's fighting Gomez?

I personally think Harrison deserved to be in his corner when the title shot came. You ask what Harrison has achieved? Well how is he to achieve anything - other than with Moore - if he's not given the opportunity to step up.
The timing is terrible, so something is obviously going on behind the scenes.

I don't doubt Powell knows his stuff, but he's just another of those faces that's been around for too long, Harrison at least deserved his shot.....I honestly think it'll finish the association, but i have no insider knowledge, just my opinion as a fan.

Oh Manfredy was a bit better than Earl.... would Earl have been competitive with Brown or Gatti - sorry no chance. Gatti was in the P4P bracket at that stage, on a big role having out boxed Patterson and out gutted Reulas. It was a big upset, but not a fluke.

If I remember rightly, BM said that if Hamed stepped up - Manfredy would have wiped the floor with him.

Khan's isn't that bad.... but for me that is the problem...... He's bloody brilliant... but he always was. Despite him not winning gold for me, he was the most sure fire success coming out the Amateurs since Oscar.... I was more impressed with Khan in the Olympics than Mayweather.

And for me, I don't see the improvement... the improvements I have seen have just come in his physical strength - and that is primarily an age thing. The holes in his defence that were evident vs Limond were there vs Kristjansen, the leaping in is still there.

I know he was in control of the fight - but he lost rounds against Kristjansen.... and in some ways Kristjansen performed better than Limond - cause aside from one punch and its recovery, Khan never lost a minute of the fight.

I just HOPE its purely a boxing decision.... that they see, whether correctly or not, that it is not working out as expected with Harrison and for them to win a world title - they need to get someone in.

Don't get me wrong, Harrison could be the best coach in the world - but I am trying to look at it from possibly an AMIR Khan pospective... offering maybe an alternative view than the - oh Harrison was right royally screwed.

I did think it was a bit bizarre, considering we as a forum can concentrate on the negative so much, that no-one made a thread about "is Harrison the right man for the job" after the Limond fight.

People questionned the creditials of Suarez, Steward, Graham, Calzaghe, Ingle, Adam Booth, Don Turner (for Duddy), Bryan Hughes, Audley's yankie trainer,.... after their main fighter/s lost or struggled... Not Harrison.

BM said it so it must be credible! Sorry but yes, the Earl of 3/4 years ago would have been competitive with Brown and Gatti, simple answer.

I agree with a lot of your other points but we're talking about a fighter that's still very much at the beginning of his career, yet he's being talked about like he's already made a bloody mess of it.

Posted: 12 May 2008, 11:48

Well we'll agree to disagee on the Earl vs Gatti fight... it wasn't just BM who considered Gatti P4P worthy - it was pretty much a given as say Winky Wright was a year or so back.

Manfredy had some good wins other than the Gatti one - he was considered a live dog going into the fight and a definate top tenner. I'm sure BM (sorry for using that source again) had him at #1 in the Super Feathers at one stage.

I agree we are talking about a young pup.... but I really want to see a 10 year championship level fighter - and not relying on staying fresh into him mid/late 30's (like JC). I would like to see another DLH or another Mayweather - and I think he has the talent.

In my opinion its better for Khan to be happy and win the world title with a different coach, than to be loyal and lose.

I just hope its him seeing he would make a mess of it if he continues with Harrison and fought say Campbell with the current flaws.

PLEASE NOTE: To Jamie and other members of Oliver's gym, this is not my opinion... I don't necessarily think Khan would lose to Campbell if he had Harrison in the corner.... I'm am just offering a possible explanation on what Khan might have been thinking when coming to that decision.

It is not my views on Oliver as a coach... I've never been to his gym, so I am not to judge that.
