Boxing doesnt always follow the form book - okay Lockett has never ko'ed anyone of note but as we all know in boxing anything can happen - ive seen so call non-punchers score devastating ko's. Pavlik has been on the floor in the past against lesser fighters. I will definitely be having a flutter on Lockett though I admit the most likely result is Pavlik in about 8 rnds.

Just like to say a big thank you to Cisco kid for sending us dvd's of Pavlik's early fights, and in fact the fights where he's been put on his bum bum - very helpful mate and much appreciated, you're a star and welcome for tea anytime!!!!!

Well the tickets are booked, my brut, spare pants and toothbrush are in my asda bag and there's a pooh factory in my pants - razzle dazzle!!

C'mon Gary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lockett's going to do HIMSELF proud, make no mistake and Mr Pavlik will be shocked at how good Lockett actually is, he was a stellar amateur. While his career hasn't progressed the way it perhaps should have form is temporary but class is perm!!

I'm going to put a cheeky £100 on Lockett to win, because I think he can do it. The form guide and general opinion suggests different but I don't think people have seen the best of Lockett and a lot of people have written him off too early...

Ps I haven't been on here for a while can anyone tell me if search has had a brain transplant lol  ???

If anyone's going post where you are staying and lets drink beer and sing songs to make merry...

After 3, 1-2-3 "He's got his head on upside down, Pavliks got his head on upside down....."

60% of voters think Pavlik will beat Joe Calzaghe!

40% were sane enough to vote Joe.

Unfortunately I can't see Gary winning this one, good luck to him though.

I wish him luck and give him kudos for taking the fight, but I think it is a bad move. It could end his career; he has already been in a few punishing fights - and that was against lesser opponents.

Gary Lockett is very good and carries a lot of power in both hands but that said Kelly Pavlik is rather special and tough as old iron. To me there can only be one winner and it wont be the Welshman. I wish Lockett all the luck in the World and hope he causes the upset but I think he is really up against it.

lockett's a decent puncher, and iv seen pavlik's fights on you tube, he's been rocked by lesser punchers than lockett,so i can't see why gary's has no chance at all but if he doesn't land early it could be a tough fight, its worth a couple of quid at 10/1 with most bookies tho!

It's lucky for Lockett that Pavlik isn't the kind of top level fighter that Cotto is (i.e. hugely skilled) - therefore it probably won't be an embarassing slughter. I imagine it'll be a bit more like Elcock-Abraham.

Nice poster, not sure about "Commotion at the ocean" though!

Looking forward to this one. Lockett's a huge underdog of course, and the chances of him winning look remote, as many boxing geniuses on here are predicting :D

But I really get the feeling that if he connects properly, Pavlik could be in trouble. The champ is saying that he doesn't think Lockett is much of a puncher, so he might be in for a shock if the Welshman catches him unwares.
I really like Pavlik though, a real throwback and a breath of fresh air for the middleweights. He should win a short and violent encounter....but there's always the chance things might not go to script here.

'Commotion at the Ocean' is awful!

Best I can see for Lockett here is some kind of Lueshing-Trinidad scenario where he might score an early knockdown or rock Pavlik but get taken out once the champions realises his opponent has a bit of a dig.

Lockett looks like he's disabled in that picture, perhaps the poster-makers had a premonition about how Lockett will look after the fight? Pavlik on points for me though.

Setanta have a September date booked for Pavlik v TBA as if Lockett is just a formality. Quite obviously they dont have a lot of faith in Lockett.

I have met Gary on a number of occasions and is one of my favorite british boxers, he is a good decent bloke. However, Pavlik will outbox him, outwork him, and outsmart him, no question. I will put my neck out to say that I do not think this fight will last 7 rounds, and Gary will have done a great job to get to this point. But for 100/1 odds I would put a tenner on it, you don't know what might happen. Gary does'nt just need a lucky punch, Pavliks chin is that solid he will need 3 or 4 lucky punches.

He'll be lucky to see the second or third round will Mr Locket - good luck to him though. In the words of the immortal Kevin Keegan "I'd love it... LOVE IT if we beat them"

Pavlik has beaten fringe world class guys that have moved up from light middle, before. Those guys - Zuniga and Zertuche - hurt Pavlik. But Pavlik knows how to survive being hurt and is a brutal finisher. Lockett fits this bill, is fresher but less battle tested than the two Z-men. Lockett may land big but he's going to get landed on even worst.

You read some of the things Lockett says and he's not in love with boxing. He's become financially secure from fighting for made up titles and is frank about this. Not to say he isn't gutsy or capable -he is. But Pavlik just seems to have a better mentality - you can believe he lives for boxing. He's made so much more out of what talent he has. He's been hurt badly before yet has that level of desire to pull through it and turn things around. You get the feeling that he lives for this, that he's doing what he's best at in there.

Who are all the guys that have dropped Pavlik? Zuniga, with a left hook early on. Bronco McKart, with a right hook to Pavlik's shoulder (thus, not a real knockdown). Jermain Taylor, in the 1st fight. There isn't anyone else, is there?

It's fights like this (imo) when the gulf between british / european class and world class is demonstrated in vicious fashion. It happens everynow and again, everyone has a reality check, and things go back to normal come Monday morning.

I may get some stick for this but Pavlik isn't as special as some people make out. He's an awesome fighter but he's very beatable. Fair does, he's beat some really good guys like Zuniga, Miranda, Zertuche and Taylor twice (the second fight was a lot closer than some people make out) but he can be outboxed and he would be made for Calzaghe. He's going to beat Lockett, there's no doubt, because Pavlik is a brave warrior and Lockett isn't a world class puncher (perhaps he will prove me wrong on Saturday) and Pavlik has proven power in his hands, especially that uppercut when he's backed up his opponent. However, Calzaghe would box this guy's ears off and would be seen as an awesome name for Calzaghe, especially after Hopkins, Kessler and Lacy. I hope for Calzaghe's sake he goes down the Pavlik route at super middleweight.
