"Other picks were taken by the time I got on here. I don't watch fights for a living, I talk over them. I do get paid to talk over them but if that's all I did for a living I'd be skinnier than Caballero." - VOTV

The thread was not entitled, 'Name A Terrible Decision,' it asked specifically for the worst decision you've ever seen. Got a thing against Oscar, have we?

"...Joe Louis vs Jersey Joe Walcott I: Say what? Louis won the fight? What a disgrace!!!"

You & IFF both nominate this as one of --- or possibly the --- worst decision either of you have ever seen, in spite of the fact neither of you have seen it? Interesting.

While I disagree with my father, his own pick for one of the worst decisions he ever seen, was Duran-Hagler.

If I was limited to picking only one, I'd probably go with Holly Mims vs. Joey Archer. Mims just walked through him all night long and gave him a beating. The fight was in Archer's hometown in front of Archer's fans, and the whole arena showered the ring with debris and practically threw a riot.

A close second would go to the first Dorsey-Paez fight. Except for the early round knockdown, I didn't see anything Paez did to score points. I thought Dorsey just bullied him around all night long.

Honorable mentions:

Lewis-Holyfield I - Holy didn't do jack except lay on the ropes and cover up.

Chi-Brodie I - I had Chi winning 8 rounds clearly, and he scored a knockdown.

DeLaHoya-Sturm - Sturm dominated the whole second half of the fight, and didn't do all that badly in the first half as well.

Gavilan-Saxton - Blatant fix. Saxton didn't even make an effort to fight for almost the first 10 rounds, and Gavilan won the last round as well.

I think we've discussed this before, so no reason to do it again.

Interesting. I haven't seen this fight, but I've heard it was a bad decision. Thanks for that. Saxton's win over Basilio was also controversial.

Spinks??

I think there's a mistake here. Gerrie Coetzee KO'd Leon Spinks in a single round.

Unless there's another Spinks that Coetzee fought, or another Coetzee that Spinks fought?

Or did you mistake one of the names? (Perhaps you meant Coetzee-Snipes?)

I meant Snipes. Coetzee knocked Snipes down twice I believe in the fight, but because the fight was scored by rounds instead of points Renaldo was very lucky to get away with the victory.

LOL, I should've figured that right away and saved myself some trouble.

I recently watched the 1st fight between Jung Koo Chang and Hilario Zapata in which the latter was awarded a 15 rd SD victory, and thought it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. One round is missing from the online video, so of the 14 rounds available to watch, I gave 11 to Chang and 3 to Zapata. There were no 2 pt rds in what I saw. Fortunately the next time around Chang didn't leave it to the judges.

Ok.

Hitrov vs Ogogo also a very bad decision, one sided fight, two knockdowns. And judges gave a victory Ogogo.

Fidel Castro Smith -v- Henry Wharton.

I don't know what fight the referee thought he was officiating in, but it couldn't have been this fight.

Smith boxed Wharton out of Yorkshire & into Lancashire & beyond, yet the referee raised Wharton's hand at the end! :o

The last time I got really angry watching a fight was the Emanuel Augustus verses Courtney Burton fixed decision. So much so, that even though Burton is evidently an okay guy, I relished watching him get demolished by Ebo Elder as retribution.

I've said it before, but there was an old ESPN main from Connecticut where the ref helped Rafael Lopez up twice after blatant knockdowns and claimed they were slips and he won a decision over some journeyman after being battered and wobbled in every round. It was so bad that the commentator (the one named "Sal" that predated Al Bernstein) got in the ring with a live mic and confronted the ref and they literally had a back and forth confrontation. That one might have been the worst.

In Snipes-Coatzee . . knockdowns did not give the fighter extra points!!!! I don't know how many times this needs to be stressed. Going by rounds (which is how it was judged), it wasn't a bad decision at all. Giving Snipes 6 rounds and Coatzee 4 is a very reasonable scorecard.

It was not the worst decision, but Ellis-Patterson made me the maddest. Stomped out the house.

Holmes-Spinks II
