It did Hatton good, yes, but did Khan actually learn anything in the ring tonight? I can't say he did because all on sundry knew his defence was in tatters and that he's likely to be put down by a half-flush shot once in awhile. And when Hatton took on Thaxton that was considered a step up fight but Gomez is definitely a step down from Limond and Earl for me. All Khan did was hit a slow moving body bag and did worse than a shot Johansson did. If Khan wants to progress than he needs to step up and face a real lightweight, because at the moment, Khan;s weight advantage is getting him through fights without learning - he needs to test himself more to see how good he really is for me.

Sorry I was confusing him with Jason Rowland.

He sounded a lot less cockey, but your right in that I am yet to see him really adapt mid fight.

He gets pressured very easily, and i was questioning his flurry of punches that landed on gomez's face during round 5 or 6..!
He would get KO'D by Katsidis at this very stage.

Khan continued to show vulnerability tonight and of course, Gomez showed what heart he has and also, plenty of power. Great fight. Ultmiately though, despite the knockdown of Khan, he showed awsome speed and accuracy. Khan scored two knockdowns and produced a stoppage. He did well, continued his winning streak but demomstrated weaknesses. But that's no problem - he has a huge amount to learn and he'll be around for many many years to come. His fights are exciting and he has imense desire and fighting spririt. Fighters like Gomez will be more motivated than ever when fighting Khan because he is a big name with a questionable chin. Khan prompts good performances from non-world class fighters, he also makes amateurish mistakes, yet at the same time shows world class talent.

Khan will do well and has what it takes to be a world champion, but there is still a huge learning curve out there for him.

Overall fight analysis for me, was that it was great entertainment, good tear up, three knockdowns, toe to toe fighting and a stoppage. Can't ask for more as a boxing fan.

Khan,s handspeed and accuracy is awsome but his punch power is nowhere near what he thinks it and he should concentrate on his boxing instead of trying to be this big puncher he seems to want to be,
This would lead to less mistakes and less exposure of his suspect chin which comes up when he trades
or gets backed against the ropes.

I've been saying for a while and i'll say it again, unless Khan stops trying to be a crowd pleasing ko artist(which he's not)he'll get stopped in the very near future.
At least Mr Gomez made him keep his bloody gloves up...

I know he is still young and inexperienced but I get the feeling that Amir isn't going to get much better than he already is.

Does the WBU still exist? :D

Khan is a hype job. He's the best Warren's got to promote right now and he's being milked. His skin colour, Olympic silver medal, and his young age are what propelled him to UK super stardom. But he will be found out. To date he has been fed stiff after stiff. Dont compare his career with that of Hattons, Hatton was definate'ly protected at this early stage, but he was performing at a level way better than Khan. No disrespect meant to Gomez, but he was well past his prime and fighting at a higher weight, he was cannon fodder, just a name for the paperwork!

People debate wether Khan is world class or not..... i dont even think he is European class!!! Sure, he looks the part, has great hand speed etc, but his power sucks, put him under pressure and his accuracy is awful. He cannot fight on the inside...... he's an accident waiting to happen.

P.S. my crystal ball tells me that Khan has a glass jaw. Step him up in class and he'll get sparked!

Well the chin problem has come up again for Khan, and its the type of knockdown that worries me, his legs don't seem to be under him for at least 30 seconds after the knockdown in both the Limmond and Gomez fight, these knockdowns were no off balance, get up and get on with the job type ones.
He's been really hurt, also the body shots were bothering him. All a bit worrying. No disrespect to his trainer for this fight, but i'm not sure Powell is the guy to take him on, is he strong enough to be able to change the bad habits that Khan has?
For me it looks like they are trying to chnage a boxer into a puncher, and i'm not sure Khan has the natural power to do that, instead of letting him box and use his speed to surprise his opponent.
On the plus side, Khan has the speed and heart that champions need, he also has excellent stamina. I'm still a fan of his , but its a worry after last night.

I noticed that Warren didn't mention anyone near the top 10 when talking about next opponents, so why not aim Khan for the British title?

My main worry is that he fought two guys that seemed like they were serious about winning. Limond, in his prime. Gomez, well past it. Those were the only two that seemed to use both experience and desire to win. And Amir was in serious trouble both fights.

It's good to see a moment of truth like this. When the matchmaking comes down & you see what a British fighter is really like.

The Limond knockdown was a temple shot, not a chin shot.

I still agree with all your post though.

The stoppage was too quick in my opinion, Gomez did himself proud, dont think many people thought it would go that far.

Would love to have seen it go a few more rounds

Yeah, the stoppage was a tad premature because Gomez had took a lot more flurries in an early round and fought back well, and my guess is he would've done the same here. And the way Gomez put Khan down is a big worry, because he wasn't even a flush power shot - more of a slap to the inside of the head/ear. If Limond and Gomez can have Khan a few clean shots away from stopping him could you imagine what Guzman, Campbell or Pacquiao would do to him - it's scary to even think about right now.

Well he comes up for some stick, but I think we should praise him in equal measure, when the praise is justified. Excellent analysis from Barry McGuigan, honest and accurate.

Did anyone notice how many times they mentioned Alex Arthur's name, because I watched the fight in a loud pub and couldn't hear a thing?

wide win for hatton in reality. :TU:

he seemed to relax and expect the referee to come in and got clobbered.

i thought he was fine from it though.

if anything the weaknesses in his game make him more exciting to watch.

no one wants to watch an unbeatable machine i suppose. :D

Well, we cant dismiss the Limond fight now. Another super-feather, this one well past it, gave Khan a torrid fight and confirmed his glass chin, and brought to light an inability to take it to the body.

Very proud of Michael Gomez- he had nothing left but a solid dig but came to play and did himself proud- Amir was in trouble and the fight should have been allowed to run its natural course - no wonder the house ref stopped it.

Yuri Romanov would dispatch Amir with ease. Thaxton, who'll be healed by September, is a bigger stronger version of Gomez. Dont even waste your breath talking about world champions-- it will never ever happen.

AMIR= hype job, glass chin, multi millionaire, delusional, delusional fans, doesnt survive 2008 without a kayo loss.

Plus, I just love it when people keep saying 'Well he needs a little more time, he's not ready yet, let's see if he improves in this next fight' and best of all 'he doesnt necessarily have a glass chin!'

WAKE UP!

The concrete inevitability of Khan's imminent downfall is shockingly explicit - being able to forecast the shocked ITV execs, the stunned casual armchair fans, the worried tones of the commentators as their paymaster is about to fall - we got glimpses of how it will unfold last night.

And for his next outing, this stumble will be forgotten and the process will begin again! How long can they extend the train wreck for?

Khan was definitely on shaky ground for at least 30 seconds and only recovered "well" because it wasn't a flush shot.

Hmmm you seemed to have missed the other aspects to Khan i.e. his speed, accuracy, desire.... Sums up what a lot of armchair pundits are like on here - just slagging off fighters left right and centre, with no balance. Khan is vulnerable, has a huge amount to learn still, but that does not negate the good attributes he has. He has plenty of talent, has shown great heart when he' been in trouble and is doing all that is asked of him i.e. beating who is in front of him. Even if he doesn't make the world class grade he deserves credit for his achievement thus far, for providing entertainment and giving it a committed go.

Great fight last night - very exciting. Thats what boxing should be about.

Khan's becoming underrated because he's fighting guys who on paper look like soft touches, but train their asses off, putting in the fights of their lives.

He needs to leave the vets alone, ditch his family, move to the US, find a world class trainer and start fighting other prospects.
