Come on mate, you can't honestly say that Barnes won the Vincent fight - It was a travesty.

Barnes did very well considering he was dropped in at the deep end, and he plainly wasn't ready for the Vincent that turned up that night. The potential was there to see though, because he had a great second wind in the fight and rode out the storm and fought back well.

No way did he win the fight though.

I actually thought he was a tad unlucky against Ali - Personally, I thought he nicked it.

It's common knowledge he isn't as dedicated to the game as he should be, and maybe with a bit more appliance to the sport, he could achieve something at a high level, but I get the feeling he'll look back on his career with regret.

Bob Shannon wouldn't put up with any slacking off, would he?

I'm going for Morrison for the upset, he's decent when he turns up and Barnes shouldn't be a Light Welter.

Jesus, it was so bad the BBB of C amended their rules for British title fights afterwards - by placing Judges at ringside instead of leaving it to the ref.
Apart from that the man himself knows he got beat.

Like I said earlier, I want to see the 2003 version of David in this fight.
If we do, then David will win no problem.
After it's over we can continue the debate about Branco.
I'm still reserving judgement.

Decent boxer fight but Morrison's a good boxer himself, Barnes doesn't sound 100% and should be a Welter.

I really liked James Hare, a great lad but no good names on his record. Barnes was in a class above James so no surprise he looked good. The British title obviously means a lot to David and losing it will definately put him out in the wilderness so I expect him to fight well. Thing is Morrison will be very determined to take it off him so it should be a very good scrap. Could go either way with both men having to dig deep in the later rounds. I expect to see a points win but a late stoppage isnt out of the question.

I'm surprised more is not been made of the weigh in! surely 3 attempts to make the limit for Barnes has to be a factor.

Hi mate, there was a lot more to it at the time. I'd rather say no more on here. I'm sure you understand.

I agree with you about Jennings. He is due to fight on the Khan bill in September as he'll be a major ticket seller, no doubt. The disappointment about his activity is not limited to the posters on here. Michael and the rest of the camp are equally frustrated by it. Not sure what else he can do. The Takaloo performance last April shold have been another springboard to push on into European class.

Well in honesty Boothy, the doubts still remain.
Forget about the result - assess the performance.
Morrison was distinctly average for me, and a fighter that the Barnes of old would have blown away inside 6 rounds.
In fact, assessing the performance of all of the Light Welters on show last night I was distinctly unimpressed.
Seriously, Boothy, let's have your assessment of the performance.

morrison for me not good enough for barnes... he fights a bit like ted bami one dimensional he showed a lot of heart tho, but he was tryin to throw windmills all the time cos he cudnt get near barnes.... barnes showed a lot of speed, done the job and just boxed him. he cud of finished him off in the last round.

Barnes is resorting to a lot of spoiling to get him the wins. Not sure how long he can get away with this for. Ok against plodders like Bami and Morrison, our referee's don't do anything to give them a fair shake, but the guys a fair bit above British title level (which is where the noise about Barnes seems to be aimed at) I can't see him being successful.
