John Galt is not Granberry, I can verify that. Though I
shall not disclose who he is. Should it matter ?
Holyfield never fouled Tyson in any of their bouts ?
Tyson was the only fighter to ever foul...last time I checked
some great fighters of the past made a career of it.
I find it painfully general that people are happy to label a
fighter as being just a bully and once they meet some one
who is not scared of them, that they become exposed....
in fact it kinda makes me a tad sleepy hearing people use
this magic paint brush for an athletes personality and overall
nature.
The only reason Tyson ever won a fight was because he
scared everyone before the opening bell.
Ali was a master at psychological warfare in and out
of the ring.
Foreman was a brute of a man, a bully that only knew
how to steam roll an opponent until he mellowed out
for ten years and re-created himself.
Yes I have read all of those things time and time again..
so what? Just because it is written does not make it
truth.
Nothing is so simple...it never is and never shall be.
Mike Tyson mugged old ladies as a youth in Brownsville...He sexually assaulted young women when he was a young man in the Catskill Mountains...For the love of God he grabbed Teddy Atlas' twelve year old niece and Teddy Atlas put a gun to Tyson's face for it...He called white reporters "white boys" and "faggots"...He raped Desiree Washington...He told Lenox Lewis he wanted to make him "his girlfiend" and "eat his children"...
He is a man unworthy of adulation...

I was wondering the same thing. It was Tyson's fists that flattened those guys, not Rooney's.

And yet he mever murdered anyone..
but Jack Blackburn who went on a murderous killing
spree and was released on 'good behaviour' is heralded
as one of the sports best mentors and trainers...
Rubin Carter.....contray to what a movie tells us..
I am here to discuss his merits in the ring, I am not
interested in what he does outside. I am a fan of
boxing and not what a fighter does with his life and
how disgusting he choses to live.
Tyson is a bad person on the outside of the ring,
still does this stop me from respecting the hard work
and skills he exhibited inside those ropes ?

I have never said Tyson wasn't a good fighter...I do take umbrage at the suggestion he is the GOAT as some of his more exuberant fans suggest...
How many Hall Of Fame boxers has Tyson beat?

Larry Holmes
Michael Spinks will be inducted soon
Buster Douglas will be inducted in 2030 or so
Pinklon Thomas was to be inducted in 2045
James Tillis will be inducted in 2050
Razzor Ruddock will be inducted in 2069
Tony Tucker will be inducted in 2019
Tony Tubbs will be inducted in 2054
Personally I do not rate Halls of Fame's...I mean
Benjamin Brain is in the Hall of Fame...as a HW.
Just because alot of the top guys from the 1980s
were not in the HOF at this time does not take
away the fact that they are talented, though
inconsistent as they were...

Your asking the wrong person regarding the
HOF. It means little to me.
It never has.
As time goes by the ranks of those inducted
swells. If we come back to this conversation in
say 10 years time or more and they add say
2 or 3 more of Tyson's opponents into the
HOF...would that change those guys qualities
or abilities ??

KAGAN: Well, and that's also about the time that he fired you too. So we should point that out, right?
ROONEY: Well -- no, Don King fired me because I said that Don King was trying to muscle his way in. And then there was a lawsuit and that took two years to be resolved and be resolved in my favor. So I didn't go out like nothing.
Maybe they didn't expect Iron Mike to be cut.

So why has Rooney had so much less success?
He molded Mike Tyson into the biggest thing that had ever hit boxing. How's that not a success?

If Tim Witherspoon, Frank Bruno or Pinklon Thomas gets into the IBHOF, I'll personally firebomb the place.

No, but not a single one of them - even Barry McGuigan - is as undeserving as those three. Tim Witherspoon in the Hall of Fame? WHAT THE fornicate ARE YOU SMOKING!?!?!?!?

Benjamin Brain ?
How is Joe Chonyski better?
Tom Sharkey ?
To go on and on...
what is so bad about some of the more modern
fighters apart from the fact that they have there
entire careers scrutinised. Whereas the 'old timers'
and 'pioneers' are remembered fondly for some
news paper clippings, anecdotes and some
old footage....

Yeah ok..
Rooney is solely responsible for training Tyson...
You know what..you honestly think that a fighter
is a mindless instrument that does not do the
hard yards and that perhaps sometimes trainers
are a tad over rated....and not as a great an
influence as they are often credited for.

Kind of a pointless thing to dispute. The guys who Ali beat who are in the Hall of Fame belong there, with maybe the possible exception of Norton. The two guys who Tyson beat who are in the Hall of Fame also belong there. So regardless of future additions, there is no one Hall of Fame opponent they have right now who is in that doesn't deserve to be in. So I don't see what you're disputing, robinson.

IFF
what I am saying is that should some of Tyson's
opponents do get elected to the HOF in time..
does that change who they were as fighters?

by I Feel Fine
No, but that's not relevant at the moment. Holmes and Spinks are the only two Tyson opponents who are in the Hall of Fame, and they are the only two opponents who Tyson beat who belong in the Hall of Fame. So there's no point in disputing what theoneishere said.

Now you're starting to show a lack of understanding of boxing and the IBHOF. Those three fighters were all inducted under the "Old Timer" and "Pioneer" categories. Given the number of IBHOF inductees of this era, I doubt that 80 years from now the Hall would be inducting further athletes.

You're trying to compare the two without taking into consideration what they, respectively, did with Mike Tyson. The difference is huge.

they are still in the HOF

They're not among the top 10 or 15 heavyweights of the 1980s and 1990s. Few if any fighters outside of the top 5 or so heavyweights from any given pair of decades sits in the current "Old Timers" and "Pioneer" categories. Tom Sharkey was one of the top heavyweights of the 1890s, behind only Corbett, Fitzsimmons, Jeffries, Sullivan and maybe Mitchell. The top heavyweights of the 1980s were Tyson, Holyfield, Holmes and M. Spinks, with the next best fighters being Dokes, Page and Weaver. Worse yet, those 1980s heavyweights that you - laughably - assume will be in the Hall of Fame were badly past their respective primes.
So maaaaaaaaaaaaybe in 2069, Tim Witherspoon will be inducted into the IBHOF, and only if its standards further deteriorate to "chinny losers that had a belt for a couple of months." Then you might have a point, but there's no way in hell that's going to happen in the next 10 years, as you implied earlier on. Probably you're going to see more low-level 1970s heavyweights getting inducted long before Witherspoon, Thomas and Bruno get in.
