good god, Ricky Hatton is a professional boxer, yeah his everyman routine wears a bit, his Dad is a pain in the arse and his love of the camera's is tiresome at best, but reading posts like this you would think he was akin to Hitler, or something.
What has Hatton done to make people hate him?
Or are you lot just miserable little men, shut in 24/7, spewing bile from a darkened room about Britain's most successful boxer for 10 years

As a fan of boxing i sat through ALL of his WBU defences. As a fan of boxing i watched his career eagerly since he turned pro hoping for big things. As a fan of boxing i eagerly awaited Hatton vs Witter. After umpteen defences of the WBU and a career built on nothing more than fortune i am certainly allowed to dissect he`s career as a fan and vent my disproval. Britains most succesful boxer in the last 10 years?! Based on what exactly?

Tszyu and Floyd effing Mayweather dont constitute "big things"?

uh huh and it didnt happen, Witter never managed to get into the same bracket as Hotton for this fight to ever make sense (outside boxing forums)

eh? so you believed you were watching world championship fights against Tackie and Pedersen?
and if you didnt, and were just watching Hattons development on his way up to Tszyu, then whats your problem?

Biggest ticket seller in the world today, boxings only genuine household name for years and great win over an all time great.
Your whole schtick is that you think Hatton owes you and others something, after all those WBU fights, which even his most one eyed fan realized were development fights at the time.

What a load of tosh, Witter held a world title for over a year ya daft bastard what else does he need to do?
So you think a world title fight between two Brits would make less money than one between Hatton and Lazcano?

He held a meaningless, vacant belt until losing it, in listless fashion to an unknown
What more did Witter need to do?
well, maybe
1) Build a fan base that sold tickets?
2) Get out of the US networks bad books somehow? (HBO and Showtime would never have broadcast the fight)
3) Raise his profile away from the world of the internet forum?
what did Witter ever do to deserve a fight with Hatton, besides talking about it all the time?

I take it that blowing out Vivian Harris(who Lazcano lost to in his previous fight prior to Hatton by the way) more impressively than anyone else doesn't count eh?

Uh huh, and Maussa got about £20,000 for that fight
Do you think Witter would have fought for £20,000
?

Lazcano did not get £20K and even if he did ( which he did not) he got the fight!
You have no argument at all - you just like to talk rubbish.
So - Lazcano came to fight over here for £20k which means he would have taken home about $25K?
I bet craig watson ot more than that, you talk so much toilet.

Ricky doesnt owe me a baked bean. Hell im just a fan of boxing. What i do know is what you`ve posted if nothing more than rhetroic BS. The PBF fight was down to OPPORTUNITY. Thats called business sense and good maths. Ricky stood to make alot of money which he did. We all know the result dont we. As for Witter not deserving a shot you my friend must live in the matrix. He was the world ranked number 2 and Rickys biggest domestic competitor. The fight was on the boil for a decade!!!!! Only a fool would try and make an excuse as to why that fight never happened. Ricky subsequently stayed true to form and chose the easier challenge in Paulie for another WORLD TITLE belt.. As for development fights you mean to say 15 odd defences and 30 plus fights against sub par club fighters is development? Honestly this has to be the worst argument iv ever heard. Absolute pish and just like the belt Ricky held so fondly not worth spit.

i do agree with some of your points.
i'm just not a bitter old man about it like u are rantings.
concerning hatton's development.
which most of us agree took far too long.
in hatton's own words he admits he wasn't ready for a title shot (tszyu) around 2002/2003.

He certainly did. He`s prime is a short with a style like that hence why Warren had him fighting frequent and often. Because of his lifestyle as well as he`s competition getting better in comparison to all those stiffs he fought those "developmental" years have caught up.

I didn't have a problem with Hattons career until after the Thaxton fight post-2000 and pre-2005 the only Hatton fights that I felt were decent were Rowland, Krivalopov, Magee and Tackie. Other than that Pep, Bailey, Rowsell, Pendleton, Phillips and all the other stiffs offered no real challenge, he'd have developed a lot more fighting the likes of Urkal(ranked highly by all 4 major organisations), Julio(former WBO champ) and Branco(world ranked again).

Charlotte the pretty blonde who added up the scores for the darts challenge.
Because she had more brain cells than everyone else in that room put together.

Hatton didn't waste his prime, if the objective is to position him for a shot at the division's king just as said King becomes ripe for the plucking.
Hatton did waste his prime, if you agree he has been in decling since May 2005, and thus his prime existed before that when he fought Vilches, Stewart et al.
A time when Judah, DeCorley, N'Dou and Witter would all have been either more valid, more entertaining or worth more at the gate.
However, why earn an extra £200,000 k at the gate, if you have to spend it ALL on a guy who could beat the fella who sold 90% of tickets.
It boils down to whether you see Hatton as a voyager through sporting history, or a product in a commercial world?
I always find the answer in Hatton. Now there is a fella who loves a fiver.
He may have been frustrated in 2003-04. But he's hoped around the divisions and belts to land the simplest fights at lowest risk, and where risk was unavoidable he's ensured it was for the richest prize.
Common sense you might say, if you're a historian or evangalist for the sport who wants to pursue a philanthropic-communist utopia then I'd argue you're in the wrong sport because the business model wont make sense.
Would Manchester United play Burnley to raise profile in America or Kansas City Chiefs, even if Burnley would probably beat Kansas 8 out of 10 times. Imagine if you also had to pay Burnley more and Sky had no desire to show Burnley because they played Chelsea once before and put 10 men behind the ball and didn't have a shot on goal.
For reference, I'm somewhere in between.
Hatton should have fought Witter when he had the WBC belt.

Do you think that fighting Urkal, Julio, Branco and Corley would have helped his development more than the likes of Bailey, Rowsell, Smith, Rios etc.? Because I do and I think he'd be an even better fighter than he is today.

I dont even remember Smith?
Hatton would a better fighter today if he could extend his left arm enough to throw a jab.
He has to use his nose to parry shots and set up his famed, but virtually non-existant, 'inside game'.
The Hatton of 2004 would beat the current version, he was quicker, busier, more economic, more elusive, more patient, threw more combinations, worked in well.
The current version is more experienced, largely in getting hit in the face, and arguably stronger. Well he can lift bigger weights with his legs they say, so what I say but thats another story.
