Not quite true. Since 2004 only one man has seen value in him, so that's merely his opinion. There's hardly been a rush to his signature.

We weren't talking about his goals to game ratio, as we said nobody ever said Heskey was prolific, I think Defoe for 8 Million is an absolute bargain !!! but his goals to game ratio for England is no better than Heskeys so your contradicting yourself a little there, and Ashton has all the attributes to be like Shearer just needs to steer clear of injuries and he could be a much better player than Heskey ever was .
Hardly. Defoe has scored the same amount in 18 games less than Heskey. And also Heskey is primarily a starter, at least in the Eriksson years and now it seems, whereas Jermain wasn't primarily until Capello came on board. It was always Owen before.

And going back to Payne's argument, which is now yours, just because he's picked doesn't mean he's good. It just means there's nothing better/more fashionable. Although I would argue we've had better target men during Heskey's reign, just that he was playing for a big club so got picked more. McClaren didn't use him as much, if at all (and before you say that's why we didn't qualify, the issue was our defence more than our attack).
To answer the original question. Yes it can get much worse because according to betfair, Joe Kinnear is the new favourite for next manager at 11/5, down from 180/1.

Ashton, Crouch, Beattie (when he wasn't fat and shit, not now) and Darren Bent. I also don't think Kevin Davies was given a chance. Just a list of "big lumps" than didn't get much/any chance.
With the exception of Ashton, I wouldn't have any of them by choice, but as stated numerously in my previous posts, Heskey was the best of a bad bunch. As Hook said "He is a big lump who holds up the ball - that's it. What else is he good at?".
That, to me at least, sums up Emile Heskey post-Liverpool.
