Well done Thaxton. He's knocked out a talented and elusive fighter. Maybe Melero doesn't travel well, unlike say Romanov.
Thaxton's positive thinking and determination - which sometimes come across as a bit naive & ama psychology - has certainly paid off, and he's had a fine British boxing career.
I've never been really convinced by his weird style, but a big punch from a weird angles can scramble a fighter.
Bring on Thaxton-Murray. Euro vs British champ. Leave Khan in his little twilight zone alternate universe.
The show was looking horrible. All that wonky boxing. Thaxton and Purdy - with his clean performance - improved the card drastically.

Really? i thought Mcintosh v Sparticus was a good fight, couldn't tell who was going to win right up to the end

Fair play to Thaxton a great win in the swansong of his career. He still lunges in with those big hooks too much for my liking but it's too late to change now; great hook to finish it.
Disappointed with Melero, he looked stiff and upright, threw all arm punches and got no leverage into his work. A poor operator by all accounts and another case of a bloated record.
Talk of world titles is way off although fair play to meaty Mick for resurrecting his career. Even though Barry said "The likes of Juan Manuel Marquez are a wee bit above him," that's way off the mark, Thaxton will do well to flourish at Euro level. John Murray fight and then out? Would be a good step up for Murray anyway.

Spartacus-McIntosh was a decent scrap I thought. McIntosh had that herky-jerky Ingle style and reminded me of Tyan Booth. He did well to come back after blowing out a bit very early on. Spartacus for such an experienced man had no idea how to hold and survive once tagged. Strange.

Thaxton should get his Lonsdale back from Murray so he can win It outright.

Well done Thaxton!

Hands up, I bet on Melero but happy for Jono - he's had some tough calls in his career and thoroughly deserves this sucess. Brilliantly timed shot to finish it as well

He's not a poor operator "by all accounts." He had Romanov outboxed and down before he got reckless and KO'd. He stopped the tricky Zoff (Zoff nearly beat Romanov). In Spain there isn't the money (nor the TV coverage) to get good names over.

I just don't like all that jerky stuff. McIntosh even admitted it didn't look good.

It would be like a poor man's Cotto vs Margarito - I hope it happens. I would die to see this fight.

Looking at his last two fights we have him (Molero) beating a guy who had won 1 out of 22, and a guy who had lost all 11 of his pro fights. Not as good as he once was, I suspect.

All the Khan talk was embrassing. If he hadn't been cut up with surgeon like precision by Romanov 6 months ago when Khan was still unbeaten it may have had some merit. Khan got destroyed in less than 60 seconds since then. Why doesn't he call out Prescott. He is over here for the foreeeable

No british fighter would dare go near him now, also as much as I like Jono this talk of world titles is cringeworthy. He was completely taken apart by Romanov so what the likes of Casamayor, Diaz, Campbell, Marquez and Pacquiao will do to him isn't worth thinking about.

I think it's because of all the crap Khan was talking about Thaxton. Plus I think Thaxton sees Khan as an easy payday. I guess he would get a nice bit of money if he fought Khan on PPV.

Wasn't Hennessy trying to get Khan on his show to fight Thaxton at the time?

There is always the chance that Romanov is better than some of those guys.

Khan was the mandatory for Thaxtons British title. Just before it went to a purse bid. allegedly offered Thaxton really crap money. Thaxton turned it down because the purse bid was the following day I think. Frank then used this as an excuse to stop Thaxton V Khan happening. Saying that Thaxton turned down the fight, which he didn't
Khan never went into the purse bid and I think he got a 12 month ban in which he can't fight for the British Ttile by the BBBofC.

Thaxton was offered 180,000 I read, while Hennessy offered Khan 400,000 to fight on his show but Khan was exclusivly contracted to ITV and to FW for that to be possible.

I've read a few things. With boxing politics you never really know what’s going on.

On a side - when did Henessey win the bids for Williams vs McDermmott 2. It was advertised there, so I assume they won the bids.

Is Williams going ahead with that fight? Because he is scheduled to fight Botha later in the same month.
And since when are either Williams or McDermott with Hennessy?

Good punch from Thaxton. Melero didn't look much considering the good things I had read about him. Thaxton will never win a genuine world title so maybe a few decent european title defences are in line which i'm sure John Murray would like to be involved with.
Spartacus-McIntosh was a decent fight. I'm not keen on the victors style although he has a very good jab, he throws one punch or slips one and kind of bounces back after it everytime, hands down, chin wide open admiring his action. I'd like to see him in with someone like Courtney Fry or maybe Nathan Cleverly.

Danny MacIntosh vs Eddie MacIntosh
Rosenthal (in true British fashion), didn't like it when Froch gave his matter-of-fact opion of Khan-Thaxton, I agree with Froch as I'm sure many here do, and Hey Britain it's NOT an insult nor weakness to 'admit' the truth - other nations have No Problem with it, and they support ALL their greats not just a regurgitated handful.

Rosenthal also asked on of the stupidest questions I've ever heard. " If that had been you being knocked out, would you have retired?" To which Thaxton gave the correct reply- It WASN'T him knocked out.
I understand what he was getting at- This was a "win or retire" fight maybe, but even so, for a man of Rosenthal's experience that was a remarkably daft question to ask a boxer who had just won a decent title. He then even discussed it further with Froch.
To be honest, although I'm glad that they showed this live, I though a lot of the show seemed rather amateurish on the part of ITV. That ring announcer made several mistakes (presumably he was given wrong information) and that "let's send a reporter into the dressing rooms" business was very tacky. Thaxton was on the 'phone, for fucks sake, and they were sticking a camera in his face. And at one point they were very close to filming Herbie taking his shorts off! Maybe they were trying to make boxing more like Big Brother. Hey, at least they are trying.
